My dogs have all been crated while I'm away since I've had them over 5 years ago. Lately I have been testing them by leaving them out of the crate while I go to the store or out to eat for an hour or two. They have been doing great so I decided that I am putting up the crates today and starting tomorrow they will be crate free dogs! I'm sure they will love it, I've husky proofed the area where they have access too so they can't get into anything. They have never went potty inside or tore up the couch or anything so I think they will be fine. Here's hoping I don't come home to a disaster tomorrow! So I recently got a Siberian Husky about a week ago. This is my second husky and third dog. Never in my life have I seen issues that this dog has. I had to snatch her up from a dog store because she was breaking my heart when I saw her. She is a parvo survivor and was a month clean before I took her home. She has been having explosive diarrhea and the vet concluded that she has giardia. She is getting that under control slowly. Our routine is to go outside and I walk around with her for 5-10 minutes and she refuses to potty. The MOMENT she is placed in her kennel she squats or poops. This is an on going issue. Take her back outside for 20 minutes and again the moment she's…

Hi all! I need some advice on how to get my girl to stop splashing all the water out of her water bowl INSIDE THE HOUSE! . She did have a big bowl inside our laundry room but I removed it because she always splashed it all out all over the floor. The only thing that seems to work is to give her a tiny bowl that she can't stick both her nose and feet in at the same time but now I'm constantly filling it up all day long. She will rattle the bowl to let me know she wants more. It gets annoying. She has a big bowl outside but she rarely drinks from it and when she does, she plays in it so I'm also filling that one up too! Any suggestions?? Sent from my iPhone using …

We've had our baby for about a month now. (Hes 3 months now) Got a nice crate and have been crate training. He use to yelp and howl at night (in the crate) but he would eventually stop. He was doing so good and made it a couple nights without any noises or accidents. Well I don't know what's with him, but the past few days he is not having it at all. He will not sleep in there at night. Just all of the sudden hes like this. He will cry and whine forever. But if we bring him in our room, he'll go right to sleep in his bed and not a peep all night. Should I keep trying to keep him in his crate at night? Even though he's a prefect angel in our room? He's use to his …

so proud of zen! almost 1 year old and her impulse control is fantastic! even with tripe in her bowl! -still working on this with dogs. while walking at a distance she's fine, but up close she gets too excited and just wants to play. i work at a free range, kennel free ..well, kennel i guess you could call it. we call it cage free boarding. i realize its a crazy enviroment but i am so sick of dogs pushing their way through doors or jumping up on me to get their food before i set it down. i vowed when i got my own dog this would not happen. success! i dont trust her off leash but she definately doesnt bolt if i leave the door open for a minute OR try to get through it wh…

I am currently looking for a Husky Puppy (pure bred). I've visited a few local breeders and was not very happy at all. I will be going to a breeder who has his dogs akc registered, so I'll see how that goes. So my question is, a lot of the local breeders' puppies were terrified. One breeder said his puppies were cold (it was cold out), the other breeder said they'e still small (5weeks old) and that is why he was so afraid. [Puppies were in avoidance, hair raised on their back, hunched like a Halloween cat, would not really move when put on the floor...] (I saw a 5 week old mastiff who was the complete opposite (SUPER SOLID NERVES) so I just want to confirm …

Hi Ivan is nearly 6 months old and successfully crate trained. I’ve never had any trouble with him sleeping but for a week now he’s crying constantly to go outside and won’t sleep. He just seems to want to watch the garden at night. He has plenty of exercise in the day and also a walk before bedtime. Any ideas please?

I'm having a lot of problems with my puppy husky. We got her around 2 weeks. The first week, she was an amazing puppy. Very cuddle and friendly. The second week, the biting started happening. It's very rough and painful and breaks skin. I've looked through so much on google, the yelping, redirecting and ignoring doesn't work. I even hired a professional trainer who just gave us a choker and told us to muzzle her with our hands. I read online that both of those are inefficient ways of teaching a puppy to stop biting. I understand she's in her teething phase, but she bites and bites HARD. Is there anything I can do to control her? Maybe look for another trainer? I don't wan…

Hi! I've had this issue with Odin since he entered puberty; he's sort of aggressive towards young puppies - but ONLY husky & malamute puppies. He gets along fine with small dogs when off leash in the dog park, but once a husky or mal puppy comes in I have to chase him around to make sure he doesn't hurt it. The first 'greeting' he does towards the puppy would be to run straight to it, wrestle a bit then bite the neck. The puppy was terrified and crying and he still won't leave it alone. It's scary to look at and scary for the puppy owner too. He'll growl and try to pin the puppy down, and bare his teeth when I pull him away. He'll go back to chasing and biti…

I had so many questions but I had to bite my tongue and wait for Emma's questions about Luka's health etc and filling in the forms. So I asked her whether I'd done or not done anything that had contributed to Luka's behaviour, she told me that Luka is moderately anxious and easily stressed, fearful and that it's usually genetic, but we can also reinforce these types of behaviours, unwittingly. She asked me whether he'd been in a situation that frightened him when he was a puppy, ( he's only 16 months old now ) an off lead dog scared him when he was much younger so she said this could explain his aggression to other dogs, a fight or flight mode. Emma feels that befor…

Hi everyone! I am new here I am the owner of a 7 month old Husky named Moose. When we got him he was taken early from his littermates and mother. We didn't know that that was wrong at the time He was 6 weeks old when we got him. I have 4 kids that range in age from 11 to age 3. When Moose was younger he growled at my 3 year old when she was near his food. I was told to take his food away from him so I did. He never growled at her again until a week ago. Also last week my son went to get the dog out of trying to eat things in the kitchen sink and Moose bit him. He didn't draw blood but left a mark. Moose nips quite a bit. He also bit my husband last night when he…

I've heard various accounts on how they differ in temperament. One owner of both breeds claimed that malamutes are more aloof with stranger, but I've not found this to be true at all. I've encountered huskies being quite reserved/uninterested in me, while the few malamutes I've met have all been social and forthcoming, more like labradors. Mals in some places have, quite the contrary, a reputation for being sociable. I own a 75% malamute myself. As for toughness, I've witnessed huskies who are soft and those that are polar opposite, tough as nails. Just like with malamutes.. No substantial difference there either. So then, is there actually a fundamental differ…

So i recently adopted a husky, and we been together for about a week now. He is 18mo old, male, and his previous owner claims he is house-trained. Which seems very likely, as the first and second day he didnt pee in the house at all. But perhaps he was a little scared of the new environment? But since then he's been having accidents almost every day, and recently more frequently. In the beginning is was probably my poor schedule managing, but now i would take him to the backyard to pee (his designated place) and he would not let anything out and when we go inside after about 15 mins he would have an accident. I read that dogs likes to pee where they pee'd befo…

I just got my puppy named Zander one week ago along with his sister Athena who is owned by my sister who is living with my husband and 7 year daughter and I. They are 11 weeks old. We do have a female yorkie that will be a year old in 2 months. Zander is terrified of other dog's. We can be on a walk and as soon as he sees another dog he starts whining loudly pulling back on his leash flipping around to escape away from the dog who's across the street paying no attention to Zander. If a dog trys to approach us wagging it's tail barking friendly to say hello Zander starts to really freak out. He acts like he's being attacked. He's screams with panic howling in a loud scream…

My 17 week old pup is doing so good with her training and she's pretty well behaved but I can't get her to come when I call her. If she's busy exploring the yard or just doesn't want to get up from her nap, she will completely ignore me! I've tried giving her a treat when she comes to my command and that worked great but now that I've slowly stopped rewarding her with a treat she goes back to her stubborn self and ignores me, especially if she can run from me. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners mobile app

Ok so Chase is 10 months now. All in all he is a typical Husky. He play mouths and barks as answering back. Adolescence has hit hard. However the other day at day care he was being pulled away from another dog and he bit the girl, now he didn't draw blood he bruised her but this is not acceptable and not the first time he has reacted like that in frustration/anger. I need to know what is best to say when i am not around. I have put a check collar on him now so they don't need to put hands near him but i was wondering if anyone else experienced anything similar? Chase seems to react badly out of frustration especially if tired or grumpy but i cannot…

I have a 13 week old puppy and when we take her for walks, she's always pulling at the leash and as she grows, it's putting more strain on my arm. I'd like her to walk at my side with slack in the leash, but I'm not sure how to teach her that or even at what age I should begin doing that. does anyone have any ideas or tips? Thanks!
