I use treats to train Maya, and it costs a fortune to buy dog treats that she isnt even into, I've had a few people say I can use gerber puffs and yogurt melts for babies for her? I just want to make sure I can ACTUALLY use those without her getting any negative affects.

Hello friends! I am planning to go out of state with my girl for four days. She is pretty well trained at home, she sleeps in her kennel, is potty trained, shes not really destructive... the first stop on our trip is a lake house resort. I'd like for her to be able to swim with us in the lake, and go on a canoe with us but also would like some sort of way to keep her leashed to me because she definitely WILL run off if unleashed.. (i plan on getting her a life jacket but she can swim very well and I will be watching her 100% of the time). What would be the best way to go about this? Is there a type of leash attachment that can hook onto me and onto her so I dont have to …

Well, I guess this is behaviour LOL Went out for a drink last night with a few friends, and got a phonecall from my Daughter to say Koda had "Got out of his crate". Well, that was an understatement Seems he didn't like crate last night. Or the carpet, or the bookshelf, or @Sarahs crochet stuff. Time to get some DIY on the go me thinks.

Hi, Me and my sister just re-homed this 8 month old husky mix. It's been about 3 weeks and he's been really great up until a few days ago where he would start mouthing very hard and tugging on clothes really hard. We tried turning around to ignore him to send a message that it is not okay behavior but he starts tugging even harder on the back of our shirts. We take him on 2 long walks to the park to play fetch everyday and try to do obedience training with him at least once a day. This has actually happened at the park while I was playing fetch with him and also when I was doing obedience training. We've also tried redirecting him to a toy but he will just go back to…

Our puppy came home on Friday. So we've now had 4 straight sleepless nights of non stop screaming from the crate. I take him out to relieve himself successfully a few times a night, but there is no calming down once he realizes he's alone and starts whining. He'll go for hours. I wake up early for work so basically he will cry/scream literally the entire night until I get up for work. We use ear plugs, but it doesn't work. I need a new strategy. Any suggestions?

Hello all! This is my first post on here so hopefully I’m doing this right. :) My husband and I have a one and a half year old male husky named Kai. He loves every person and dog he meets and we are so lucky to have found him. We recently moved from Indiana to Washington state and we are loving it so far! Kai man has gotten to go on hikes and the climate is so much better for him. Unfortunately the move has seemed to make him form separation anxiety anytime we leave our apartment. He has been kennel trained from when we got him as a puppy and has always loved having his own space. However, now anytime we leave the apartment he barks, whines, cries, digs amongst…

Welcome Did he have a bad experience while leashed? As you probably know, they feed off the energy coming through the leash. Did you experience an issue with (any dog) while leashed? Could be subconscious nervous energy that he is picking up on. *this is going to be hard to explain through text* Timing for a correction is very important! Be careful that you are not giving a correction prior to the action. It could train a dog to become leash aggressive. I see people give a leash correction when the dog is just being attentive. This snaps them into aggression and trains them to be leash aggressive. Take the dogs for a walk. Not forcing them …

Is she spayed? Do you have have a female in the house that is not spayed? If she has only done this around the same time last year, could it just be the weather changing? Seasonal depression can affect animals. Do research before trying this: use lavender oil. Does she have a crate or is under the bed her go to normally? Use a few drops on the wood (if she does NOT chew the wood) or on the crate cover (that is what I do) I have a friend that uses it on the training collars. Lavender helps with anxiety and calms. But make sure she does not ingest it and it takes very little. Have you spoke to your vet? If she is of good weight and has no medica…

Hi all, My 2 month female is starting to jump and bite the air in the direction a person. For example say I was sitting in front of her and petting her she will randomly start jumping and biting the air towards me. If shes laying down, she will pull her head back then bite the air while extending her head forward. And she will keep doing it until I leave her alone. This behavior is becoming a more and more common thing that she does. What does it mean? Should I be worried?

Lately Maya has been snapping at several people, to the point where its becoming a problem. When I pet her paws she does a deep in her chest growl, she never bares her teeth, ever. and she will reach out and try to bite my hand. Its the same when I pet her hips, she does the growl and reaches out very quickly to bite my hand. She does the growl most of the time someone pets her, rarely with me, but when she does its scary. I don't know if i should say bad girl, or if i should try to show her its okay. She has never been an affectionate dog towards anyone but me, sometimes My family. But the snapping is slowly getting worse and I don't know what I did to make her get to th…

Is this a new thing? Did it start when you got Lacy last month? Do they go for walks in the morning and before bed? I have always found that when dogs bark consistently it is because they are board.

I have a two yr old female. Despite having a doggie door that she uses all the time, she still pees in the house regularly. She may go a couple of weeks with no occurrences, then pee in the house daily for a few days. She is on Proin for incontinence because she was leaking during sleep. That doesn't happen anymore. It seems to be at night or during the day when I'm at work. I really don't think there is a separation issue. She doesn't show any anxiety about use leaving the house. I'm clueless as to why she would do this. My other dog NEVER goes in the house. She can go outside at any time. Any advice for me? I hate to put her in a crate.

Hey guys, So cosmo is now 2 months and a half and started eating my furniture, I know it’s because he’s teething but my mom wasn’t happy about the matter. i decided to call in a trainer for basic stuff like biting inhabition and things like that. when the trainer arrived at my house cosmo got scared and quickly hit in the corner of the sectional. Before he started the training, the guy told me he was going to see what kind of dog I had. (Quick backstory: cosmo doesn’t rly like being touched, since he was 6 weeks he’d cry when people pet him. I figured this was bc he didn’t have all his shots and still wasn’t able to socialize enough with other …

Casey starts puppy classes tomorrow! He’ll also have several home visits to deal with the food aggression which is now called resource guarding. I’ve been working with him at home and he’s making baby step progress. The biggest accomplishment was he and Hershey our Pom played outside in the backyard for an hour last night. Hershey chased Casey all over the place both dogs barking and tails wagging. Then they came in and laid a few feet apart on the floor and slept. Baby steps. 😊

Casey my 4 mo old husky attached my 10lb Pomeranian today. He ripped his skin open near the neck, thank God he didn’t have adult teeth. Casey is very food aggressive and thought Hershey had a milk bone treat. Hershey is still shaken up as this is his second dog attack. His previous owners pit bull attacked him. I am furious. I cannot have a dog that attacks. I feed them separately even treats. Casey has been pinning one of cats down and holding his head in his mouth. Please help. Where do I start?

Its been quite hot over the weekend and our puppy (14 weeks) has been happy to go on walks and walks fine for a few minutes and then decides to lie down in shade or grass and not responding to commands. Is this typical in warmer weather? Should I avoid walking or keeping walking to a minimum (10 minute walks?) in hot temperatures?

So my pups play a game that I call the Indy 500. :They race around the living room, dinning, and kitchen. (Open floor plan). I am assuming that corners and dog beds are safe zones. The other dog has to wait for the one that made it there to leave before they can run again. Lots of talking happens... So I have there crates in the middle of the living room for training. The girl has figured out she could go between them faster than her brother.... But this time, he must of thought she ran into her crate and followed! Yep she wasn't in there! The look on his face and sniffing around to try to find her in her crate had me rolling. Just had to shar…

The cat held Pooty time hostage. Again!!! I swear as soon as the pups wake up she goes out of her way across the room and blocks them. Sometimes right in front of the doggie door. I caught the end of this stand off. Yes she has her claws but does not use them on the female pup. They paw at each other all the time. The boy on the other hand gets it when he crosses the line. Sorry if video freezes. IMG_1791.MOV

Hello! My puppy Rea is about 7 months old, and she previously has listened pretty well. She has usually comes when called and goes in her crate when I tell her to. She is potty trained, no problem there. But lately it seems like she is deliberately disobeying me. She refuses to go outside when I tell her, runs from me when I try to make her go in her crate, hardly ever comes when I call, she runs away from me alot. I am not sure if it's an alpha thing or if she is afraid of me for some reason? And a bit of background, she is a mostly indoor dog that I put outside in a huge fenced in backyard sometimes and sleeps in her crate/goes in her crate when were not home. No kids, …

So, as a brand new (finally!) husky owner, my boy is only a mere 2 months old, Siberian/Malamute I figured I would post a thread and get some tips on what’s best for our little pup. Today is only the fourth day we’ve had him, we have three children and my wife has a 9 year old deer head chiuhuhua. If anyone has any tips about obedience training, length of walks (in summer), grooming, hair cutting?, dental tricks (keep them teeth pearly white), anything is super appreciated. Thanks so much.

[sORRY FOR BAD ENGLISH] Hi guys! My 4 months husky, Winter. He is such a naughty husky. He likes to run around in the house ( cause he has not get his third injection ) He used to listen to me when I command him or call him but now it won’t work out. He only listen me when I had treats in my hand. He sleeps in a cage but not fully closed. I always wanted Winter to sleep in my room freedomly without cage. But he likes to bite my furniture all the time. What should I do to make him be a good boy? Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners mobile app

I've got my male pup for almost 1.5 months now. Ever since I got him, he is very fearful. The first week I started walking him, he wanted to hide under parked cars and had a strong fear towards unfamiliar dogs and humans - He jumped in a river because another (calm) dog was following and smelling his butt. Although the fear for other dogs disappeared after several weeks by going daily to the dogs park for socialize, I don't see any progress, maybe slight regression over the fear of humans - starting from new people coming inside home to having panic fear when we pass a stranger outside - strongly pulling the opposite way or towards his comfort zone (Home). When we ge…

I started training my pup at 8 weeks he picked it up pretty fast. He knows the commands but all of a sudden now is ignoring me. He has stated pulling on a leash won't sit, he knocked me off my feet the other day. He's started jumping up stealing food. It does not matter how many times he's told he will do it. My pup is 7 month old settled in he gets plenty of exercise. He's changed. I know they can be stubborn but he is not a nice pup at the moment.
