My husky mix Dakota has severe separation anxiety. It is so bad that even if I leave my room for 1 min she will start howling and crying. I tried a thunder vest/ shirt but it didn't seem to work for her so I gave it back to my other dog. I left to shower for 5 mins and could hear her all the way from upstairs. I work at a doggy daycare facility and she comes to work with me but cannot play due to her heat. We where supposed to get her fixed when she got here but got her heat right when she got here so we have to wait till April. But I could hear her crying and howling from the back building (separate buildings) at work. I felt so bad for my coworkers. She just turned 1 in…

Two days ago when I was walking my husky another person was passing by with her golden retriver. It was 4 yo old golden retriver and my puppy started preying on her and scared her.. It made me think about their prey drive and what could happen in the future and how should I deal with it, and if it's safe to be off leash when other animals are around.. What's your experience with husky's prey drive if you had one , and how did you deal with it?

I have a 13 week Siberian husky who is very playful. Playful to the point were he bites a lot when played with. Even in general. When he’s being petted by me or groom he would want to snap. And it sometimes is a growl snap. Idk if I should be worried. I’ve tried many things to make him not bite by saying “no biting” to giving him a toy. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, we have 2 white huskies, Aria and Apollo, who are 11 months now. We have been trying really hard with their training and they are getting better every day. However, getting them to come back to us when using their recall (i.e. 'come') is always a hit or miss. We can never be sure that they will respond and its clear that they choose when to. It is very stressful sometimes, especially when going to the park. Any good ideas/tips please let us know. Thanks.

I have no clue how to correct this! My 9 week old puppy, whom I just picked up a week ago, has started to show a new behaviour. Today mostly, whenever I pick her up and try to cuddle her she will growl at me, whether she is sleepy, hyper or just do her normal thing. She doesn't do it 100% of the time, but about 50%. If I don't let her go when she starts to growl, she will get louder, although has not tried to snap at or bite me yet. She is also like this when I try to take away or pet her while she is eating a treat. I have dealt with the treat thing in the past, so know what to do to get her over that, but the cuddling thing to new to me. I can pick her up and carr…

Hi All, Looking for some advice for a new husky owner. I adopted a 6 year old husky off a friend, that had a change in circumstances that couldn't accommodate his dog. The dog was always an outside dog, and was left at home for the business hours. Now i understand that he is now in a new environment with a new owner and needs time to adjust, but looking for tips on how to speed this up and make me feel more at ease! Issues i'm facing. If i'm out of line out site from the back door, he whimpers and will howl. This makes being at home very hard, as he will howl once we go into another room besides the kitchen. At night time, he …

Hello everyone, I have a little puppy that is 12 weeks old. He has been living with us 4 weeks now. We have a problem with potty training. He keeps doing it in the house. After eating we would take him for a walk to finish his bussines and play, we spend like 2 hours outside and he doesn't potty there, he does it 5 minites after we get home. Every time.. If someone can give some advice, it would mean a lot..

FYI - just helpin' out here... No Wheat or Gluten for dogs. Northern breeds cannot break down or digest wheat or gluten. They do not carry an enzyme for this. Nor for lactose, grape family fruit, (raisins, currants, prunes etc) and onions whether raw or cooked. Chocolate is poisonous. Frozen carrots for teething. When your pup nibbles, mouths, bites fingers&hands clothing ... remove quietly from room & social company into a solitary room - one or two minutes. Bring back .. repeat immediately if they start again.. When they just nuzzle.. watching waiting ... reward with a treat saying 'Good boy/girl! Be nice..no bite!' This can apply to…

My girlfriend and I recently adopted ~2 year old husky and we're noticing some pretty bad anxiety issues with the crate. We've only had him for about 2 weeks and we do feel like we messed up the initial crate training (we gently pushed him into the crate the first time). Ever since, he's been more and more reluctant at going inside the crate. At night, he's starting to pace a lot more and whine more and louder as well. What we've tried to do and have tried to do: 1) Giving lots of praise and treats when he goes near or into the crate 2) Giving his food/water inside the crate. This step we've off and on either closed or locked the door behind him as well to hel…

As soon as I get the lead out harlow is over the moon but if the harness comes out at the same time she's off and avoiding me like the plague. Tried using food to get her to interact with the harness but she knows better. Does anyone else struggle wih this? Should I persist in teaching her the harness is good? Can I teach her the harness is good? I normally collar and lead walk her or let her off at the dog park every morning so it's not a big deal but I'd also like sometimes to walk her in a harness for greater control and not go through a 10 minute battle trying to outsmart her [emoji28] Sent from my [device_name] using http://Husky Owners mobile app

When my doggo was a very little pup I made it a goal to get him used to tail touching. By gentle tugs and grabs and petting. He is perfectly ok with touching from anywhere now unless I'm trying to brush his belly and lower sides. What I want to know is if that is an ok thing to do? I did pull him back by it only once in panic when he tried to make a run for it out the front door and I heard a soft pop and and felt bad (though he showed no discomfert or annoyence from it) decided never to do it again but that was almost 2 years ago. Hello everyone! My girlfriend and I just recently adopted a Husky about 4 years old, Neutered Adult Husky; 2 months ago. Recently, he started to nibble and is getting more active with his teeth/mouth. He started with nibbling on my girlfriend's clothes about 2 weeks ago, as if he is trying to rip her shirt Also when we play with each other, he is now starting to make a "biting action". He would run towards me, open his mouth and act as if he is trying to bite my arms/hands. Usually, I would retract before there is a long enough contact for him to bite. I'm confused on why he's acting this way and I want to teach him stop to prevent any accidents in the future. Can an…

I've had my pup 6 weeks now. The last couple of nights he cried. I've gone downstairs let him out for the toilet then gone back to bed and OMG he has howled for hours! During the day he follows me every where but I won't allow him upstairs so if I go upstairs he howls. How long are they clingy like this for and how can I combat it especially through the day. I have other dogs also I've just purchased some Adaptil which apparently can help? His training plus everything else is OK.

Hello. Khaleesi's first night in the crate. 3 hrs in and she's crying and clawing at the cage She's 6 months and since 4 months she hasn't had any over night accidents ect. She doesnt need to toilet through the night and usually doesn't do the toilet for about 2hrs after I get up.. so I know she's not crying for the toilet. Is this normal? ... I've been getting her used to the crate the whole day. It took some time but she started to go in and out of it as she pleased, ate her meals in there not a problem etc. I made it real positive for her put treats in, gave her treats when she went in... but when it came to bed time I let her out for her last tiolet and put her in…

Helloooo! Khaleesi is 6 months old. She's half GSD/Sib husky... I've had her since she was 8 weeks amd I've never had her in a crate.... she has destroyed a fair few things... but generally she hasnt actually been bad with chewing ect. Just every so often chews up something, She's never chewed or destroyed anything like furniture etc... untill recently she is becoming a bloody nightmare. I've always been able to leave her in the house while I go into town, to the shops ect and mostly she never destroys anything.. but now she's just become a terror. Every single time I leave her. Even for 10 minutes while I pop out to get milk she rips up something or chews something. …

My male puppy is 14 weeks old. I have other dogs which are older than him and they tend to ignore him mainly rather than play. He plays pretty rough but I've noticed now he stands over the top of them, literally sitting on top of them. Is this a dominance thing. Foe example he want to sit on the sofa where they are they bark at him so he dives on and literally stands over the top of them. If one of them barks at him he stands on top of him. I would not of thought a dog would display dominance at such a young age he is not playing.

Hi all! My neighbor is deathly afraid of dogs so she requested that I have my eight week old puppy on a leash whenever I take her out. (She’s pregnant & said she’d run & probably fall if Mika ran up to her). Mika does not bark & is very very sweet but my neighbor is just deathly afraid. My issue is Mika is not taking to the leash well. Can anyone provide any pointers on starting her? I’ve tried to use some treats as positive reenforcement but that doesn’t seem to work after a couple treats. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners mobile app

Hi Everyone, We have had our gorgeous boy for just over 2 weeks now and he has settled in so well! One thing that we are having a bit of trouble recognising a cause for is our little guy pooping inside. (I realise he is still very young so please bare with for explanation) Within the first couple of nights he was able to make it through the night without wee accidents but still pooped - he's got the hang of asking to go out and now rarely wee's inside other than small ones which he can stop when we say No to him and take him outside. Poops are a bit different - we take him outside every two hours then immediately after eating or sleepi…

For a few days now my boy started to be afraid of going outside to the backyard. Normally he would go to pee and run around. Sometimes we would lock him out while handling food, so he would sit by the door waiting for us to let him in. Although even this, he was never afraid of going outside. But suddenly one morning he refused to go outside, even though we finally got him out, he just sat on the doormat. He eventually pee'd inside. So this has been going on for about 3 days now, we have to leash him out the door, and stand outside wait for him to pee. He's totally fine when going on walks, so I assumed it was just some weird smell. But the only thing I found is…

I am possibly getting a new puppy come February. A purebred siberian husky. This is not going to be my first puppy, but I am looking for recommendations on length for training leads. For previous puppies, I have always used a 15 ft, but it seems like it was just a bit too short. I still have 2, 15 ft leads. I don't just use these leads for training, I also use them for simply taking outside to potty, so the pup has a bit more privacy but I can still have control over how far she goes, or the occasional "off leash" walk, while still being on leash. For taking out to go potty I think I will still use the 15 ft ones, but for everything else I was thinking maybe …

Hi! I'm new to this group!! I have an almost 3 month old husky named Raiden. But we can't go near him without him biting! It's not to inflict pain, it's playful biting but we've tried everything to get him to realize it's painful and he doesn't seem to get it. Has anyone had this problem? Will he grow out of it?
