Hello all, My husband and I have 2 huskies and another dog. We just bought a house with a huge yard and plan to move in another month. We want to use a large part of the yard as an outdoor dog run/enrichment area, and the first thing we need is a fence. I have been doing research for months, and I'd like to hear about experiences from husky owners. The good, the bad, and the ugly. What kind of fence did/do you have? What material, what height? What length & width? How much time do your huskies spend outside? When you are home? Not home? What was successful in your fencing? What did you think would work but did not? We are planning for 6 …

Hello, My Husky Loki is a 9 month old neutered male. He is for the most part as well behaved as husky can be. He is apt to eat most anything, and pulls on the leash sometimes. He is our first husky and can be a handful at times. I do get they have a distinct pecking order and it is evident in Loki's behavior. For the most part he will not bother with me, other than to say hello or interact when playing. Once the wife or daughter are around it seems he becomes different. He definitely asserts him self and I get the dominance thing, but he does bite Not hard but annoying) and mouth their hands. He will also start mouthing my hands when he goes into this mode. He only d…

My husband and I adopted a 1yr 5 months old intact male husky about a month ago. He’s really social and gets along really well with all people. He also gets along with most dogs. I say most because he seems to always have issues with other intact dogs (e.g growling, fighting, or other dogs trying to attack him) Is this normal behavior among non-neutered dogs? He usually does well with neutered dogs. So I wasn’t sure if his issues were because the other dogs were also intact, or if this is a behavioral concern.

Hi I’ve just adopted an 18 month female husky. She was well behaved and loved me when we were at the shelter. We brought her home yesterday but I was at work. When I came home she went nuts and started to wag crazy and non stop lick. She then started to jump up and mount me. Eventually she stopped doing it ( mostly anyway) and was calm around me after it. I then got home again and she started doing it going crazy, jumping up and jumping. She also bends her back puts her Behind infront of me and stares. She circles around me doing it and puts her ears back and roles over and spreads her legs too is my dog ok doing this and what does it mean

Hi Everybody, This summer I rescued my second sibe. My first sibe had all the usual husky traits: he would bolt out an open door, slipped our fence, killed rabbits in our back yard, pulled on the leash; and he was a wonderful boy who I camped with, hiked with, ran with, and loved for 12 amazing years. Training helped him a ton and he aged like a fine wine. So now I am on my second boy, a husky mix whom I named Oscar. Oscar has been perfect in the first two weeks, he listens when I tell him "off", he is calm in the house, walks very well on a leash, goes for runs with me in the park, and gets along with our 2 year old Alaskan Klee Kai, in the house... in the yard is a…

Our 7 year old male Siberian Husky decided about 1.5 months ago that he was going to randomly start going to the bathroom in the house (he did not go in the house at all before this). Luckily, he is keeping it confined to 1 section of our living room (the middle of it unfortunately), it is carpeted. We clean it thoroughly each time it happens (mixture of cleaning vinegar & water, soaked up w/paper towels & wet vac, then carpet shampooer, then pet enzyme spray to top it off). It happens at least once a week, sometimes more. There is no pattern, except it's when we are gone or over night when we are asleep (we shut our bedroom door). We can be gone for 2 hours, or 8…

Hello everyone! My pup Pocholo is fine with people, he isn’t aggressive at all but he is absolutely terrified of other dogs. Especially the ones barking at him. When we go on walks and spots another dog, he just stops walking, goes behind me. I really want to enjoy going for walks but it’s really hard when he stops every 10sec. What can i do??? Help me please.

Hai! Today I met my friend out with his labrador mix dog, and the puppy was afraid. She didn't really freak out but was scared for sure, tail was bewteen legs too and she started to pull backwards from the labrador which is probably normal for a 8 week old puppy. Whats a good way to introduce her to other dogs without shocking her? Should I carry her and let the other dog first smell her and then try? I've had her only 2 days is it too early to socialize?

Hello everyone! My pup Pocholo just finished his assessment for basic training. The trainer observed for a little bit and interacted with Pocholo. Afterwards he told us that just as suspected. My pup is not highly motivated. He was given treats, toys, you name it. Unfortunately, he loses interest so fast. He said that it’s not impossible to train but if he would give a percentage of how much he could train him, he said 50%. He also mentioned that, he’s worked with copper huskies before and same issues. Not highly motivated. Is this true???

I am going to be posting in a few areas regarding her as I have a few new husky owner questions. This first one will be regarding her behavioral issues, I would love to keep working on these behaviors, she can be a very stubborn little girl. The issues I currently have at home start with her general jumping puppy behaviors. I get very nervous letting her play with other dogs as she can be quite annoying and nippy with them I’m worried she’s going to get herself bit and I’m not sure how to correct that behavior when she’s playing, I assume she will need more time, but nothings I do seems to keep her spazzy-ness together. She is extremely stubborn and mouthy. She …

Hi everyone. I am glad I have found this site. I need some help on my Sibe, we’ve had him only 2 weeks, he left his mum at the rightful age of 8 weeks and went to live with a family for 6 weeks who unfortunately realised they did not have the time for him with 2 small children. ( it’s unknown to me how they did not think this through but there you go ...) as I get to know Loki, I find him rather odd politely speaking. He has had an upset tummy and is currently having rice and boiled chicken 3 times daily but his moods are almost bipolar. Today he is worrying me as not stopped sleeping and doesn’t want to go for a walk!is this a sibe trait? Or …

Hello everyone, I have a 10 month female husky named Mochi. Overall, she is well-behaved and knows all the basic training including potty training. However, the problem is that she has separation anxiety. According to my tenant, when we leave the house ( it is always around 2-3 hours never more than that) she would howl, whine and try to escape for at least 30 mins straight. And we always come home with poop, pee on the pee pads even she already potty right before we left. Idk this problem has anything to do with her background: we got her just 3 months ago, from a university student who is never home, she has to be alone at least 14 hours a day and never get …

Hello world I'm a newbie and I just love your forum! You've all been so open and friendly to me, which I appreciate most. I have some questions about husky whining, screaming, howling etc. My boy is very sweet, he just turned 12 months. He's very obedient, I have none of the problems that husky owners have. He hasn't destroyed anything, he has a very good recall, he's perfect off lead, he does not pull on lead, he knows basic comands as sit, wait, heel, paw/other paw, five, beg, roll over, stand, and musher comands ( gee, haw, hike, whoa) He also is my photo model (I'm a photographer) , he would sit and wait almost everywhere I send him. I am a crate…

Hi everyone! I am a new husky owner, we recently rescued a lovely husky pup - we think she is about one year old. She is the sweetest thing and well mannered when people are around. However, when we leave the house she howls for hours on end. We've gotten her comfortable with a crate so we've begun putting her in there while we are at work - roughly 4 hours at a time. She is still super loud all day long to the point where the neighbors are leaving notes. This is only her 4th day being crated while we are at work, so I know it will take some time before she is adjusted. Does anyone have any tips on helping her feel more calm when we leave? We cover the crate,…

I got my 10 month old husky 3 months ago, she came with no potty training at all from the last owner. We started to train her to potty outside and potty on the pee pads when we are not home. She did it 70-80% right all the time. However, last month we got her spayed and a few days after the surgery, she couldn't hold her pee well cuz of the pain so I put lots of pee pads around the house ( upstairs on the carpet and downstairs)just in case she couldn't hold it in when I am gone. 2 weeks after surgery and everything get back to normal, but she now decided to pee and poop on the carpet instead of the pee pads downstairs when we are not home. I tried to put a little pee on h…

My 3 year old husky has recently developed the habit of chewing up the inside of my car. He’s destroyed a steering wheel & 3 seatbelts. I keep him seatbelted in, and have a gate, and it doesn’t seem to matter how short of a time period he is in the car. I’m considering a muzzle to just keep him from chewing while in the car. Anyone else experience this? Anyone have any success stories with muzzles? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys, I'm new member in this forum. I have two huskies. We just moved into a new house. Our dogs had a lot of stress actually. They can't stop barking at our neighbours dogs and no one is happy with this situation. Especially our neighbours, because they have a new born baby. I tried to find a solution for this problem on internet and I found this product: Sonic Egg bark deterrent. It looks like it could help in my situation, but before buying it, I would love to hear what do you guys think about this product? Maybe you used this product? And if not, I would also love to hear your ideas on how I can solve this problem. Thank you!!!

Hello everyone, So fire season has begun here. It started about two weeks ago and we have had fires every day. I was just updating the pups evacuation supplies. 4 day supply of food, water, treats, and medical. When I thought about how important it is to have the fur babies at least comfortably in a crate. I know some people are completely against it. I myself do not crate when I leave the house. However, if your pups need to stay at the vets or you need to evacuate quickly, it is a lot less stressful on them if they are used to it. Here was the notice I got to start loading them up. Less then 4 miles away!

My husky is well excercised. However he escaped again tonight. He went through the fence. What bothered me is he would not come back. It was an utter nightmare. I live in a rural area thankfully he didn't get in with any livestock there is sheep next to my house. I'm resecuring the fence tomorrow again. The issue that bothers me is he wouldn't come back. Luckily it was 1am and I suspect it was deer that enticed him to escape. There were no cars on the road and I was like the proverbial village idiot trying to catch him. I ran away from him that's how I caught him in the end. Hes 18 month and it's really bothered me that he would not come back at all. Any advice.

Hi Folks! It's been a long time so I'll reintroduce the facts so those I don't know can chip in. My AKC Siberian Sarah is 8½ years old (9 in September.) I've had her since she was 12 weeks old and have obedience trained her as well as I can given her nature. She has ZRD and was treated for mastocyoma in early 2017. She tends to challenge me after our kids and grandkids have left after visiting and it takes a week or two of light dominance games to settle her down. I know she does this and was prepared when everyone left at the beginning of April. It's been dominance games ever since. Things got ugly three weeks ago when she bit the crap out of me. I w…

I have a one and a half year old husky named Kira. Shes been difficult from the get go. Potty training was a nightmare and she still has accidents, she still wont listen to my commands even though she knows them. She is a touch inbread from a back yard breeder which i didnt know until after i saw her papers. Shes an absolutly beautiful dog and my husky i had growing up was no where near as bad. She likes to play with my cat and my cat likes to play rough. In the past few months shes taken to running beside him and biting his head hard enough that he cries. We've broken them up and dont let them play together anymore because shes way to rough and my cat wont scratch her to…
