OK, bear with me folks. A little introduction here. I picked up my Sibes at a local shelter. Found the female, debated it for a week, pulled the trigger. The day I picked her up, ended up deciding to get the male. I did not do proper research ahead of time, and found out later that I wasn't properly prepared. In my quest for information and tips, I found this site. It has been a life saver! Now...what I'd like to do with this thread is help out all the other people that are new to Sibes, or are looking into Sibes. So please, if you have some tips, a heads up on what to expect, or something people should plan for, please post them up! I'll do …

I thought I would start a little thread on cleaning up after inside accidents as there seems to be a few people having some issues of late I have been very lucky with Ronin and his toilet training, but my advice comes from experience with my previous dog that had daily accidents towards the end of her 14+ years. One of the big problems with inside peeing, especially on carpet is that urine contains ammonia which as we all know stinks to high heaven. Many cleaning products contain ammonia so our dogs can smell even the smallest amount and think "hey great, it must be okay to pee in an area that already smells of pee, woo-hoo!" The other problem is that if w…

Thought this would be helpful to new owners to read about other owners first experience (i.e. First night home, first walk, first vet visit, etc etc) and how they handled it and what they would recommend to a new owner. Will list here different first time experiences and you can either copy and paste all the titles and write about them all or choose to do a few. Choosing your first dog what happened what did you do what would you advise now more experienced Preparing your home what happened what did you do what would you advise now more experienced First 24 hours home what happened what di…

I think there needs to be a sticky on crate training huskies. It comes up a lot and it DOES present problems to new owners unique to crating other dogs. If you've posted on the subject in the past explaining your experiences and ideas, please search it out and copy and paste it here. Or if you've never posted on the subject but have experience, please share. It won't read like normal post, but rather just a wealth of experienced husky owners tips and ideas. If enough good information on the subject gets added to this thread, perhaps it will be worth making a sticky.

Hey all, If you are reading this post, you are either intrigued or you are in the same position my partner and I, fearing our dog was pregnant and what would we do? Ok... let’s wind back to the start. Signs your dog is definitely pregnant (from approx 4 weeks before labour all will be present) Look from the top down on your dog, is she misshapen? She will look filled in her body before her back legs. A noticeable sign is her losing fur on her underside/belly and growing teats. Her attitude may change from normal. She may be either very clingy or want to be alone.[ She may start having trouble with the…

A month ago, I found a stray/dumped young husky dog and brought him home to meet the five other resident stray/abandoned/dumped dogs I've taken in over the years. The husky tried to mound a couple of my residents, there was a short scuffle and I separated the dogs and began a more gradual introduction which was mostly successful. When I was dollying three big bags of dog food from the car to the kitchen door a couple of weeks ago, though, the Husky was sniffing and checking the bags out, and my resident food-obsessed senior male decided to come over to have a sniff too. The husky attacked the senior dog (not corrected... attacked) and while there was no blood shed or skin…

We found out shortly after we got our Husky/German Shepherd mix that my husband is allergic to dogs. I also have lung issues and have been needing breathing treatments more than usual. Is there anything we can do to help alleviate the hair? I have bought the Furminator shampoo, a professional hair dryer & I just ordered the Furminator deshedding tool. I just didn't know how often to do that stuff? Any other tips or advice would be great!

Hello everyone, my name is Kristina and I have a 8 month old Siberian husky and she all of a sudden started panting excessively and now running in circles. Not sure what to do, my husband keeps giving her water but she doesn’t want to drink at all. Took her outside and see if she just wants to play and run around but did not work out either. She did ate her food this morning and having her water breaks. Went to the bathroom normally all morning as well. And she also won’t listen when we try to calm her down like hug her or kiss her but nothing works. Can someone help? Thank you so much

Has anyone out there ever had an unfortunate experience where their husky has had to protect them? I know the breed character trait is that Siberians are really quite gentle and soft and would be terrible guard dogs, but recent discussions with people seem to be of the opinion that if the worst came to the worst, and the dogs witnessed an attack, then they would be protective. I am not so sure about this. I have watched an account of an American guy on Discovery that was under attack from a bear and his husky stayed with him, snarling at the bear and warding off an attack until help came,he said he owed his life to his loyal husky. Is this th…

What are the most accurate ways to calculate the age of my Huskies, and how can I ensure I'm getting reliable information? Hello👋, I'm reaching out to the Husky community in hopes of finding some expert advice. My furry tornado, a two-year-old Siberian Husky named Max, has recently joined our family. While he's a bundle of pure joy, his boundless energy and independent spirit are presenting some challenges. Max is a whirlwind of activity, and his boredom often manifests as destructive behavior, like turning my furniture into chew toys. Leash walks have also become a battle of wills, with him constantly pulling me in every direction. I've tried various training methods, but nothing seems to consistently work. I understand Huskies are known for their high energy and strong person…

Hello, I was advised by the vet to ask other husky owners, My 4 year old husky has an intermittent clearing of the throat issue, it isn't a cough, its a bit like we do when we have catarrh in our throat. I feel like it could be a hair ball that he needs to cough up but this has been going on now for about 3 months, he is fine in himself. He isn't losing any weight he eats plenty still active and as stubborn as ever. Is this a known issue with husky's and other long haired dogs and will it go away on its own? the vet has given him anti biotics and anti flam medicine but it is still there, it has gone a little worse at the moment because he is shedding. Should i be concerne…

I'm curious at what age your huskies stopped growing. Sherlock (my red and white Sibe) is just about five months old (on the 13th) and he already weighs 38.0 lbs (17 kg) and seems like he still has lots of growing to do. All the sites I read say a male husky is 45-60 lbs. Seeing as he's already 38 lbs, I'm worried he's going to be giant ---- haha. I guess it's just more of him to love But, I'm just curious about other Sibe owners. We don't seem to run across any Sibe's in our area. His dad seemed in the 60 lbs mark and his mom was probably around 40 lbs. But, one of the other Sibes the breeder had was 80 lbs. Sherlock isn't overweight according to our …

Hello, my female husky is around 16 1/2 years old, still active but been to the vets last week and has a tumor on her mammary glad that has burst. Vets say that she needs to be operated on, but in my opinion she is far too old for an operation. I don't want to let her go but the vets say if she's not operated on she will get sepsis. Do you think she is too old?

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information as to whether or not Husky fur will grow back normally after being shaved. My Husky Mix had a 5in x 5in spot shaved off his hip today at the vet because of a hot spot.. and this obviously left a noticeable bald area. Does anyone have a positive experience of fur growing back after their Husky was shaved? Seen a lot of people saying it won't come back but that just seems a little exaggerated. Also, is there anything I can do to ensure it will come in ok? Thanks!

Hi. I have a 4 year old neutered male husky, who is very well behaved so we have decided now is a good time to get a puppy. We will be getting a male husky puppy in 4 weeks and was just wondering if there is anything I should be prepared for/how to deal with puppy hormones around my adult male dog. This is the first time I will be having two dogs, but I have always wanted two thank you for any advice!
