I hope this is the right place if not please feel free to move it ^_^ What would everyone consider the best way to introduce my new puppy into our home? It's still a few weeks out but I keep reading contradictory things online so I figured I get some good opinions here ^_^ I know alot depends on the individual personalities of the two dogs but I wanna make sure I do this right because I know day one is one of the most important. I know she's going to be tired and a little freaked from her flight so I most deffinately don't want to overwhelm her anymore than she will already be. Any suggestions would be most welcome ^_^

Before a walk do you have a routine of what you do or does it change each time? First of all our boys will hear the word "Walkies!" and then they will go into the kitchen where they wait for me to put my trainers on (if I havent already got them on) and then I hear Gizmo crying at the door as he knows he is going for a walk, and then they follow me into the back room where, if we are doing the training for the harness working, on comes the walking belt and the long leads. I get myself ready first and the link the boys up to their end of the lead and then get dragged to the door but they have to sit and wait at the door and let me go through first and then once …

I have never known a dog like our Grey that pee's so much! is it normal that Huskies pee as much as they do or is Grey the only one? i just took him for a walk to the shops and he must of peed about 10-15 times, every 5 yards i walked he peed a 5 min walk turns into 15 mins. Is this normal or might there be a problem? he has been outside most of the day and his pee is not little spits to mark things he is really urinating a lot and even walks off in mid pee.....

Hey there all. As you know Ive had Achilles 2 weeks tomorrow. Im having an odd issue though, at least I think its odd anyway, lol. As I think i mentioned he was blowing his coat still when I got him, and he had been shaved. Chewy has not and apparently never will blow his coat and just sheds at a low rate all the time, so its not particularly messy (except on our red rug, lol). Achilles on the other hand Is super-mega shedding, lol. Tons and tons of hair everywhere and all the time. I know they do lose alot of hair during the time they blow their coats, but his seems really excessive. …

So this is the first time in a very long time that i have had to introduce a puppy (7 1/2 week old) to Lana (18 months) and Nanook (2years). Seeing that Lana and Nanook are my first huskies i just want to ask you huskies owners what i need to keep an eye out for. Nanook is taking to her pretty well. Letting Renesmee just, play, nibble on him with out a growl. He wants to play with her like he does Lana but then he backs off and lay down. Lana on the other hand does something strange. Not the aggression that would send out warning signs. She sniffs then paws Renesmee sometimes which then cause Renesmee to growl and then really nap at Lana. Lana jumps back and run a…

ok im confused, i read the breed standard, which says that an adult bitch should weight between 16-22Kg.... well kiras just under a year old, and shes about 24kg... i dont get it because i can easily feel her backbone, i can feel every rib, tho there is a thin fat layer over them, and her hip bones are quite prominent... so i dont think shes overweight... in fact, MIL thinks shes underweight... it also says that those weights are the extremes, so if im understanding them correctly, kira is heavier then their top end weight this cant be right with how skinny she is, and she's not a large (as in tall) dog either.... and will she be full gr…

This probably should have gone in the Introduction section, but I thought this section would get more visibility. I hope you don't mind. I am new to this site (and Huskies for that matter) and thought it would be nice to start off with a bang. We had to put our dog down last year due to health issues. My daughter has recently been asking about getting a new dog. I made an agreement with her; if she can go 15 days without wearing a pull-up to bed and without wetting the bed then we would get one (best thing i could come up with to help with that). But she loves Demon from the movie "Snow-Dogs". She points out Huskies and Mals from other movies. My wife likes the…

I was just wondering today if anyone ever clips their husky's whiskers or do you just leave them long and wild? lol. I know, random question, but I was looking at Pongo today and his are quite long. I do know for shows and such they do clip them. I thought that would hurt them though like clipping a cat's whiskers... I dunno.

I was just wondering if anyone else's husky runs around the house randomly like a mad-dog around in circles over and over again. Then when you tell them to sit they freak out and bark at you and nip at you and won't listen. Pongo does this frequently and it's starting to worry me that he's trying to push his dominance on us. He wouldn't quit today until I rolled him on his side and held him there for a few seconds rubbing his ears until he had a nice long sigh. We walk him every day and play with him constantly and I have no idea why he does this!

I just love it! It doesn't smell like anything I've ever smelled before, and I've checked with my vet its s normal smell for a dogs ears. Its sort of musky and a little bit sweet. Am I a complete freak? Does anyone else out there smell their huskies ears and like it?

Here's my question. I've never had a puppy before and my sibe girl will be my first pup (not my first dog). I work 6-8hrs a day but my roomate is unemployed so he is home with our current dog all day thus the pup will hardly ever be alone. Now, my question is with me working nearly 40hrs a week would she bond more with him than with me? It's not really a big deal to me obviously as she is going to be my dog I would like her to bond with me more but it's just something that's been dancing in the back of my head for a while. I now our Foxy deffinately loves my roomate more lol. She totally fawns over him it's to cute ^_^

Just wondering what people's opinions are with regard to having a puppy and working. I currently work Monday to Friday for 4 hours a day. I leave the house at 8.50am and get back in just after one so any puppy would be left for 4 hours 15 minutes. I don't really have time to walk dogs in the morning and my lab is such a couch potato that she doesn't really wake up until after lunch now anyway as this is our routine. When I get home from work the dogs normally go out then. When my lab was a puppy I used a crate and knowing how mischevious huskies can be, I would want to crate train the puppy so that whilst I am at work, it would be in the crate - is 4 hours too much? …

To be honest, I have never owned a dog that I have invested in and kept inside...This will be a first, so I have many questions that come to mind, that to many may seem foolish, but if you have never done this before then how are you suppose to know? So with that said and at the risk of looking dumb here come some hopefully simple questions... 1. What size crate do we need to buy for our sibe? links would be helpful, let me know if you need to email them to me... 2. what kind of collar/harness and leash do we need to buy? plan on just being a pet and jogging and running with... 3. what kind of rake/brush do we need? 4. At night when we put our pu…

Our Garden is fully secure with fencing, walls and hedging around it.. ( well at least i thought it was) Zeus has worked his way through the hedge by biting through it into next door! he has formed a huge gap i nthe hedge.. i have put up some metal fencing infront of the hole.. I have shouted at him many timers for doing this as its becoming a pain for our neighbours and the fact hes destroying the garden.. so he knows hes not suppose to do it.. now he has started a new hole because that ones out of bounds.. i will come out the back door and he will see me and his ears will flop back and he will sulk in a corner! why does he do it when he knows he will get punished for do…

hey guys.. Zeus is 6 months, hes a lovely boy and has got such a personality to him.. when it comes ot the kitchen though he can be a nightmare.. he constantly is jumping up on the sides and taking things off them and chewing them up outside.. at first i thought its our fault for leaving stuff out and giving him the temptation.. so we try to make stuff less visable but he still manages to get something.. so many times i have tooken him back to where he got it and given him a stern no so he knows hes being naughty when he does it.. ill open the kitchen door and he will see me, ears will shoot back and he will run out the back.. thats when i know hes taken something! guys w…

So we recently bought a new sibe bitch. She is currently 8 weeks old and learning quickly with us but the issue isn't with her, it's with our 3 year old male. Let me first explain how we came upon our Pharaoh because his history might have a lot to do with his issues. I'm not sure what breeder he came from as we acquired him from a neighbor who lost his job and was no longer able to care for pharaoh properly and his wife who the sibe was originally for had a stroke and rarely leaves the house let alone interacted with the sibe. He was an inside dog for about 8 months of his life and his owner's pretty much tossed him outside and never so much as…

Tell us what your husky does at anytime. What he/she does got get your attention, when they are telling you "i want to play", or just something you want to share that makes your sib unique from the rest.

Ok so I think Ive become a freak or something. hahahaha. I was not thinking at all that I would consider keeping Achilles when i told the rescue I would foster him, and I was especially not feeling the urge after I rehomed solo as I truly felt as though I had not really given it my all with him. However, I am now maybe considering that if they continue to truly enjoy each others company and be so great with each other, that I may adopt Achilles myself. They do actually play together, and have not shown upset or agression, and both are doing what I ask them, and are not marking or going potty in the house. Its a given that I …

I have pretty much hidden every cable I can so that Falkor can't get or chew through them. But today I left him for the 1st time for an hour and left my laptop cable in reach which he has chewed through. There are a couple of rooms with cables that I can't hide, barring rearranging the furniture, does anyone know of any chewproof decent products for protecting cables

Kinos eyes have been changing color a bit it its kinda interesting. Its almost as if he is going bi-colored... the outer portion of the eye is ice blue but the inerpart is starting to turn a greenish brown. Vet says hes in good health. Is this still considered bi-color or is this something completely different. The way its going the color should change enough in the next month or so to be able to photograph them easily.

Im the proud owner of a new husky pup, 11 weeks old right now. Weve been going on walks, probably about 1.5 mile once a day, with a few games of chase me while im running in between. Ive heard and read alot that walking a pup too much can stunt growth and cause hip and bone problems, i was wondering if what we are doing right now is too much for her. Theres probably only been 7 walks like this so far. Thanks.

So I have 2 dogs. We recently rescued our husky from a neglectful situation. The other dog is just a puppy and is starting to mature. We used to take the dogs on walks down town where there are a lot of other dogs and they would be very well behaved, paying the other dogs little mind. Awhile back some people moved in across the street. The house has a strange lay out, and the front yard is fenced off. They keep their dog outside in the FRONT yard (I'm assuming there's no backyard). Of course, since the dog was just sitting in the yard, it would bark at any living thing that was around it. Birds, bugs, etc. After a few weeks of this, our puppy started barking back at the d…
