Hi everyone, as you can see by my profile we have 3 Sibes and walking all 3 of them is getting really stressful at times due to the fact that our leads don't allow us to feel in full control when there is only one of us walking them. If both my wife and I are walking them then its ok but I know we have a problem on the leads side but just not sure what to change them for and was looking for some advice. We currently have 3 x 8m retractable leads but as you can imagine trying to hold 3 of these is difficult and one of the leads has been dislodged from our hands on too many occasions so far and Storm does not come back, we've been lucky so far..... We like th…

Discussion about tails started to me think the breed standard in generally. So here´s the topic for discussion about Siberian husky- breed standard. Past dogs and dogs in nowadays. How has the breed changed or is it changed? Lot of opinnions and discussion needed! Here´s few differences that I have noticed: Typically Big ears, long legs, light appearance. Typically too round scull, Weak or slack back; roached back; sloping topline. Too Straight tail, in movement pointing like a torch. Tight tempers. Sorry my bad sketches (I made them in few minutes for this topic), ho…

hey guys, So it took me 3 months to house train merlin the first time round due to his behavioural problems. i've now lived in my new home 8 months and im still haveing problems with his urinating. Doing all the right things but hes still doing it in the house. The next step for him is castration as im pretty sure he is scent marking because of the girls but that will have to wait for the vets to clear it. I've been told by alot of people that you cant house train a sibe so thought i'd do a pole and see how all the sibes on here are.

Hey everyone, Ok so you all know I'm new to this husky lark (and absolutely loving it I might add!!) but I just wanted to ask if there are things I should be doing that I am not aware of.......for example (you may laugh at this) I never knew that you had to put water in the radiator of your car......bang goes the car!! Now I'm not saying I'm going to manage to explode the dog but you get the general idea!! So.....here's the history that we have....... he was found after being a wandering stray for over a month in the Manchester area...... he has been castrated he has had a flea treatment he has had 'all his injections'-I'm not sur…

I work in the squash and racquetball business. Due to this, I have squash balls around my office. When I first started bringing Yukon into my office he immediately began enjoying playing with a squash ball. Since he's in the phase now that he has to chew on any and everything he can get his teeth on, a squash ball works great. I find that tennis balls are still a little too big for him to use as a chew toy but a squash ball works great. It's a strong enough rubber that he won't puncture or rip it, it's small enough that he can carry it in his mouth but it's big enough that he can't swallow it (at least right now). It's a soft rubber ball t…

Every summer we go camping and we go on some pretty good hikes in the mountains. Now Foxy is such a house dog her paws get tore up if we don't put booties on her feet before we go for a hike. With Kiana this summer should I do that for her? She will be around 7-8 months when we go. My other question is what would be a good mile point to take her on? We usually go on 7-10 mile hikes once during the three days we go and Foxy handles that pretty good with several breaks in between for water, food, and rest. I dont want to push her to much and all that plus it gets quite warm in the summer months here so I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Any advice would be great! ^_^

Hi Everyone! Our sweet 18 week old Stoli has been great so far...nothing out of the ordinary with his behavior. We are doing a fairly costly decorating project in our house and I am worried that Stoli will destroy new furniture, curtains, rugs, etc. I don't want to keep him away from our family room since he loves to be with all of us, especially in the evenings where he loves to curl up at the marble slab at the fire place. Our house is fairly open so it is difficult to keep him limited to one room. How do you all fence off areas in your house or is there a way to train them to NOT bite furniture? I want to avoid making him feel punished since he is such a sweet dog…

Hi all, I'm really in need of advice on what to do. Maia has been with us now for 6 months, she has come on in leaps & bounds from the skinny, bald, scared dog she was. Now about 5 months ago Maia & Jess (14 year old Manchester Terrier) had a scuffle over a piece of kibble, Jess went for the kibble at the same time as Maia & then Jess went for Maia. As you can imagine Jess came out of this the worse with 2 puncture wounds. Everything healed & has been going great until Friday. Now I'm not sure exactly what happened but I could hear Jersey, George & Maia playing downstairs then all of a sudden Jess let out an awful scream. I ran downstairs shouting at t…

So im gonna try and explain this the best I can... Im home all day.. and syrus.. listens to me (usually hah if hes not being stubborn).. well ive noticed here recently that he only sits by me and anytime i sit on the ground hell try and sit on my lap or at least put his head on my leg... now he NEVER does this with shaun .. but when shaun comes home hell ignore what I say and do what shaun tells him to... now if shaun I are both on the ground say sitting side by side ..syrus will try and sit between us.. I have a brown beach chair looking couch and syrus is allowed to sit on it.. but he never sits on it unless im there... i feel like he gets jealous …

Fia HATES the shower. The first time we tried to wash her, it sounded like there was a killing going on. Is there anything to do to get her to like it a little more? The thing is, we got her from a petstore. I know, note the best idea. I think over there she was probably forced to be washed and I am sure it was very delicate. Also, how often should she get a bath? Here in Florida, she very rarely gets muddy. thanks!

Wife brought this home after a trip out of town. The dogs LOVE it...keeps them busy for a while (especially when there are only a few treats left inside, making it harder to get out) It certainly has the potential to save the sofa from further attack lol They basically have to push the rope into the bottle, then pull it out hopefully gripping a treat http://www.busybuddytoys.com/View.aspx?page=dogs/products/behavior/busybuddy/tugajug/description

Ok so Oz has been having little chunks come out for the past week or so and now it's all coming off in massive quantities (which i'm thankful for because bless him he's looked really warm) but is it normal to only be coming out on one side?? There is a small amount off the other side-he's starting to look strangely lobsided!!! plus his neck and head are still completely thick and bushy!! Advice/experiences please! Diz xxx

Hi I am new to the site, I always dreamed of owning a husky, I have studied the breed, read books and knew that I have to have enough space for it. So now we moved into our new house, we have about a tennis court outside yard with a two story house, is this sufficient space? I married the best woman in the world and adopted her two cats as my own, never thought I would love a cat but somehow they got a piece of my heart, they are well trained(sit on command) and don't give us any problems. Thus my question: My wife and I decided that it would be a good thing to have a dog so we are looking at getting a puppy in the next 2-3 months. Does anyone have experience w…

Hey guys, We have just put up a fence over the weekend. Poor Saber now has a big brown fence to look at rather than the street below (We Live on a Hill). He used to go outside and happily sit by the edge and watch the cars and people walk past. But now, you can see he wonders around the garden wondering where his view has gone lol. Can anyone suggest any games/activities and etc that Sibes like that we could set up and leave in the garden?. I'm going to make a sandbox for him in the next few weeks, however he hasn't started digging yet and i don't wont to encourage it if he doesn't do it. We are getting him a dog house this week for the g…

Just bought Nanuck a squeaky toy over the weekend. It's shaped like a slab of ribs. When I make it squeak, he starts making a crying sound. He's not afraid of the toy, as he seems to like it, but he makes this crying sound every time I make it squeak, or if he makes it squeak. Anyone ever observe this type of behavior?

hiya ok properly silly question but i always thought husky's didn't bark, but Sasha does just wondering if this calms down as they get older or not. im not complaining cos its always been her way of saying she needs the loo or that she wants fuss ( not that great at 3am when she wants the loo and goes right to your ear to do it lol ) shes a few days off being 6 months old now, its mainly when we are out that it seems to be more bark than howl so my neighbours tell me.
