My daughter is about to graduate college and wants a Siberian Husky.I thought I'd come here and ask those that know, where to go and what to do.She is "fairly" responsible and should be able to be a good owner,I think. She wants a large type dark black or dark gray SH and we have been discussing the care and maintenance that entails owning such an animal together. We understand that buying a puppy may be good- by way of starting a devoted relationship together, but also that a older dog may also have it's advantages too,if it hasn't been abused, mistreated or is sick. She would like me to start training the SK-basically in just obedience behavior and than showing her what to do…

Hi all, I'm just wondering how old do most husky puppies first blow their undercoat, so I can be somewhat prepared for it when it finally happens? When huskies blow their undercoat, is it affected by how old their are, or is it affected by the seasons only?

I was just wondering if anyone else's dogs did this. Whenever Pongo plays with another dog or gets really ruffed up when we play at home he raises the hair on his back. I thought dogs only did this when they were nervous about something. He does this everytime he plays. Just wondering if this was a normal behavior. Also when does their puppy fur complete it's growth into adult fur? Pongo's fur seems to be growing really slow to me hahaha. Maybe I just want it to grow really fast so he can be prettier (oops handsom-er) He's about 7 months now

So Polar was a stray that my friend found wondering the streets. They found her around Oct. 20th, and I adopted her when I got back home about a month ago. We figure she was about 3-4 months old when my friend first found her, but I'd like the experienced folks on the forum to take a look and see if that's a good estimate. This is what she looked like a few days after my friends found her, she was pretty dirty and her coat wasn't looking very good. She also had skin rash on her front legs which she stratched at a lot. This is her size compared to a 11-month old female St. Bernard. And the following…

We have just bought another dog to join our 2 1/2 year old Siberian bitch. After much discussion we decided not to get another sibe but a similar type of dog but one that will listen to commands whilst outside!! After talking to a few people we were advised to get a dog not a bitch and have chosen a Belgium Shepherd (malinois) x German Shepherd. Anyway here's where I am looking for some feedback, since we have brought the puppy into the house our girl has tried to play with the puppy constantly, barking, whining ,howling etc. The puppy looks terrified and tries to run away but at only 9 weeks old he dosn't stand a chance. We keep seperating them to give the pup…

Yep another question about Husky tails, but not how much they curl, but, and I'm sorry to exclude those of you who have pure white Huskies, does your Husky have a dark / darker patch on the base of their tail? I'm sure that I read somewhere why they have it but now I'm curious if anyone elses Husky has it. Both Noushka and Smithy do and here's Smithy modelling his...

Hey gang, Am on the look out for a good car harness... have looked at a few options online including an adaptor that plugs into your cars seat belt plug which looked niffty but did say it was only compatable with certain cars and the car I have in mind is my mums very very old volvo so am not sure on that one? Also looked at Pets at homes one which basically consists of a harness (which I already have, obviously as a husky owner) and what looks to be, from the drawing on the back of the pack, a little loop with a fastener on the end which I presume loops around your seat belt and connects to the harness but they wont sell this loop part seperate fr…

Hi everyone I'm hoping to get some advice about finding a breeder and knowing if they're the right one for us to go to, as well as general advice to know what to look for when visiting breeders to see the dogs/puppies. The thread that's stickied, I'm working my way through but I have a couple of specific questions that have been niggling at me lately... We contacted a breeder in New Mexico, USA last year and my other half went to visit her when he went home (to NM) for a week.. (just a sideline here, we're looking for breeders in America because when we are married next year I will be immigrating to the US - he has just been reposted ther…

We got a husky puppy about 2 months ago, she's almost 5 months old now. She's fine with myself and my partner, but we have friends living with us and she won't go near them (seems scared of them)They're male and quite tall so don't know if this makes a difference and they've tried to get friendly with her but she runs off and then comes back in a barking fits at them!!! Only with men though. Is there anything we can do or does anyone know why this happens??? Please help

Hello all, I plan to purchase a dog pack, harness, paw protectors (errrr... doggie boots), and a collar for my husky Polar. The problem is that we live in a small village/town in China, and the stuff I want to buy for Polar is in the US. Luckily one of my friend will be visiting from US pretty soon, but that means I need to order the doggie gear by guesstimate Polar's size when she's fully grown as best as I can. I searched the Internet for the average Husky size, but I was only able to find the average weight and height. So if you have the average paw width, neck, and girth for a female husky, could you share it with us? Or if you have a female husky, could yo…

Just curious to know how big you would expect a male husky to be at 4 months old? And how much he would weigh? I know this depends on the husky, as of course, they all differ! But if anyone has any pics of there's at this age?

Ok so Last night I noticed that part of Chewys left eye is pink/red and hes having some mucous-ish discharge from his eye. He doesnt seem to have any pain or anything but Im kind of worried since it came on so quickly. Could this be a really serious problem/illness? Im broke right now and the vets here wont see chewy unless I can pay cash at the end of the visit, even if its an emergency. I can take him on monday though...can I expect this to get worse and spread to his other eye?

Heya everybody. I have never used grass seed or sod palates before. Im thinking that it may be smart for me to regrow/plant some grass in my yard as 2/3 of my yard is now mud, and no matter what I do it gets tracked in constantly. I do expect some dirt to come in of course but would be glad if less of it came in with the dogs, lol. I know if I put down seed Ive got to wait X amount of time before they caan go out in the backyard again, but I dont know how long. I was thinking that if seed is going to take 2 to 3 weeks to grow and it will be that long before the yard is safe again I may as well go buy sod squares, but how expensive is that, does anyone know? Wha…

Ok so ive had alot of trouble with chewy and dog beds for inside his crate and Ive read that Im not the only one. BUT... I figured out a way to make chewys crate more comfortable for him and he likes it! I really didnt want to get another plastic crate liner/tray for his metal crate cuz Im very sure it would start cracking again within a few weeks. I have been thinking for awhile about how to make his crate comfy again. Well apparently i figured out just the right thing to do because he didnt try to dig it out or rip it up, or start crying about it, lol. I took out the cracked tray, lined the bottom of it with cardboard, put a t…

Ok so my two boys are definitely bonding. I had no idea but chewy has killed at lkeast one bird and buried it. This morning these silly dogs dug it up and proceeded to start ripping it up. I took it away when I saw but oh my lord! they smelled so nasty! I got the pup and washed the ever livin daylights out of him and chewy is next! Chewy must have gotten down and rubbed most of his body in the dirt they dug up...cuz when I went out to check on him and he walked up, he smeeled straight up of rotten death! I almost yacked on him and I think I hurt his feelings cuz I pushed him away before he could rub on me. Poor baby, but wow the stench! I thought they were out there becom…
