hi everyone I've not done this before so please be patient with me. my husky is 10 yrs old,we rescued her when she was left abandoned on the streets at 1year,her name is demi and we love her to bits, not sure if the feeling is mutual to be honest !! About 4 months ago she developed diabetes and now is almost totally blind. The thing is we can't seem to get her insulin dose right, and I'm not convinced the vet knows what to do,she is now on 12 .5 units morning and night. does anyone have any experience of this ? ☺️

Hi everyone. My wife and I have been Husky owners since 2002. My wife's Husky passed on in late Dec at the age of 12 and my male Husky (Ivan) will turn12 next year in April 2020. He's really slowed down but we'd like to have him with us for a few more years, just hope he makes it. So, we've decided to adopt two puppies in 3 weeks (a male for my wife and female for me). My wife has already settled on a name for hers, and wants me to name my female Loki. I've always looked at Loki as a male dog name, so my question is; do you think Loki would be a good name for a female husky?

Hi all, New here but have had a Siberian Husky for 15 months now and I'm still learning as I go along. His name is Kasper and he's an A1 - pure Siberian. As you can see from the photos, he's a unit. Very long, very bulky, and very strong. However, I worry that he's overweight so would like to see what you think. Got him weighed at the vets today for his flea tablet subscription and he came out at 46.4 kilograms. It wasn't until I looked up the healthy weight of an adult Siberian, which is around 21-23kg (?), that it dawned on me that he may be heavily overweight. Of course, all huskies are different to some extent, and will range in body size and build…

Hi! I'm new to the forum. Really I just joined because I really need some help figuring out the food situation for my husky, Kai (Picture attached). He is a 35lb 19wk pup who is full of energy, loves rough play, hiking, cuddles, and currently has explosive diarrhea, lol. That being said, I'm excited to join the community and learn more about this amazing breed.

A preface to my inquiry...my Husky, Elsa, is up to date on all vaccines, full panel blood work, and chest x-ray. The vet chalks it up to "allergies". Elsa is a 4 yr old white AKC registered Sibe with one blue eye and one parti-eye. Do any of you experience chronic hacking, coughing, gagging with you Huskies?

Hello All, I am a new owner of a 3 year old female husky. I had her transported from California to Arizona, I have no information how she ended up with animal control. I have been working in the veterinary field for 20 years, and hold a license so I am able to answer any medical questions that anyone might have. I am aware of the "normal" or "typical" husky personality and general behaviors for the breed. She is a wonderful dog, but she has an obsession with my cats. She is not aggressive at all, but is extremely interested. I understand that huskies have a natural predatory instinct, but was wondering if anyone had any advice on interaction between the 2 species. …

Hi all , We are new to owning huskys , And got our first rescue a month ago and hes perfect so decided to get him a play mate from the same place a girl the same age 4 years old . Was told she was non reactive/aggressive which is essential as we have children, However after having her only a week now shes reacted badly to every dog shes come close to and even attacked another dog yesterday whilst out walking . We've tried contacting the rescue centre we got her from but all calls and messages are being ignored , We are now very anxious about going out for walks with her and are wondering if any of you have any advice or recommendations Thanks in advance

Hello all, I'm new to this forum so guess I should introduce myself. I'm retired twice: First as an AF Officer (24 years) and then as an Engineer/ analyst (20 years) and my wife is a retired dental hygenist. We have always had dogs in our family as long as I can remember, to include several Boxers, a Black Lab, a German Shepherd and a Jack Russell. However, when our Jack Russell, Rocky, died about 6 years ago, it was the first time in 44 years of marriage that we were without a dog - just two cats. We had talked about getting another but llife got in the way and we hadn;t gotten around to it. Anyway, in 2017 we started talking seriously about wanting to get…

Hello! I am new and figured I would introduce myself. My name is Kimberly and I’m from the USA. My husband is in the US Navy and im a supervisor at a drug store. For a while now we have wanted to get a dog but didn’t know what kind we wanted, or if it was even the right time in our life to get a dog! But I was scrolling on Facebook and saw a tiny puppy at my local animal shelter! It was a Doberman mix (my husbands always wanted one), so we decided to go check him out the next day the shelter was open (We had to wait 3 whole days! It was agony)! When we got there and asked about that particular dog, we found out that he already was adopted. We were so disappointed but we d…

Hi! I feel a little bad about signing up for a forum called "husky owners" since I do not actually own a husky. But we are seriously considering fostering one for our local shelter, and I'm looking for answers and input about our situation from folks who understand the breed. I don't know if this is a good place to start with the questions or if it should go down in the Rescue section, but here's the jist. We signed up to walk dogs for our local shelter because our youngest kids are finally old enough that we want to start looking for a dog. I always had a dog growing up, but my parents always got puppies, and we knew we wanted to rescue. I've handled big a…

Hello everyone.. m a newbie husky owner from Central India. Its a hot place with temperature ranging between 11°C & 48°C. I recently adopted a siberian husky. I am his third owner infact. The dog was actually bought by a bureaucrat's son. He didnt focus on his studies 'cause of the dog n for this reason, his father gave this lovely husky to his friend(2nd owner) when the poor boy was just 3 months old. This second owner of his, coincidently used to live in the same street next to my home. I used to watch Alex go out for walks with someone at that time, n used to see him tied to a mango tree during the day time(where the temperature here reaches 30-40°C). That ggu…

Please allow me to introduce myself, i'm a man with 2 huskies 😁. This is kenzo (black and white with blue eyes) and kodi (white with brown eyes). Theyre brother and sister about 4 1/2 to 5. Theyve been with us for a couple of weeks and have settled in brilliantly. They came to us from a broken home where they have lived with theyre biological parents since birth. This is the reason i have come here as i am after some advice. Their mother is now going through what looks like isolation distress and was wondering if meeting up with the dogs would be a good idea to help mum adjust, or is this likely to make her worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there! We have recently added a second rescue to our home. Bindi was described as a shepherd or heeler mix, but her DNA came back predominately Husky with a bit of GSD and Bernese thrown in. (Apparently Bernese crosses are a thing?) She is approximately 5 or 6 years old according to the rescue, has an extremely slim build, long legs, huge feet and stays at about 50 pounds. All we know is that she was brought in, adopted out, and returned less than a year later. She has very few manners, although she does know sit and shake, is house-trained, and accepts her crate fairly well. She has been with us since mid-March, and is still adjusting to the dynamics with our ori…

Hi all Thought I'd continue the tinternet tradition of an opening post. Live in Dartford and rescued a siberian husky on Friday. Haven't had one before but had done loads of reading up. Things seem to be going fairly well at the minute although appreciate it's still early days. Our husky is an almost 10 yo male that had been at the shelter for a few months after having had a fractured tooth removed. Has had arthritis in left knee but doesn't seem to stop him walking too much. The staff had said not to expect too much when we met him which naturally rings true to theie aloof nature. So was a little bit of a surprise when he gave me a big hug 30 …

Hi everyone I am new here. My 13 week old husky has short red/brown fur but I’m noticing has some longer white hairs. My breeder said he is going to be standard plush but I am wondering what’s with the longer white hairs. Is it just a transition thing as he grows or did I get a wooly husky? Any thoughts? Photos at the link below. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi My real name is Pete and I added the Brit so you know I'm not from a country with wide open wildernesses. More so as I live in the suburbs of London quite near what used to be the WW2 Hornchurch Airdrome base, now a county park. I've joined this forum because I'm in the process of adopting a rescue dog, a 3 year old Husky cross Marmulte, and awaiting the home visit stage. I have had a rescue dog before, a whippet cross, and he loved the open spaces in the park for running, but its not fenced and I've been warned that like my whippet x, the Husky x Marmulte is a two mode dog. Sleepy (sometime naughty thieving if its not nailed down) pet in the home and the foc…

Just popping in here to say hi. I'm finding it really difficult to adopt a Husky because they all seem to get a ton of applications very quickly around here, so I'm playing with the idea of getting a puppy as well. At the moment I have Soarin, my GSD, who I've had for 3 years now and I've had him since 9 weeks. I'm not super excited about the prospect of waking up at midnight, 3am, and 6am every night to take the new puppy out to go to the bathroom, but I will say after a couple of months, that first night of 8 hours of sleep is both refreshing and terrifying as you wonder if something is wrong (for the first minute). Here's a picture of Soarin though, this was over t…

Hi everyone. I'm fostering a Husky for a dog rescue, he was rescued 3 weeks ago from a life of abuse and neglect, he is a year old, a stunning white Siberian husky with ice blue eyes. Despite his awful start in life he is so trusting and loving. He is currently fostered to me as a critical care placement as when rescued his organs where starting to shut down. I've had him 3 weeks and he is like a different dog already. Big learning curve as I've got a little terrier cross age 10 and 5 rescue cats so a young large all be it skinny husky is a learning curve. I'm hoping to adopt him once he is well enough to be up for adoption.
