Hey, Had our puppy for nearly a week now. She’s 6 weeks gone Saturday. The breeder let her go early because her Mam had rejected the puppies. My question is, what is the best way to stop biting? I’ve read conflicting info online and was wanting to know from actual owners on what works and what doesn’t. What we should do and what we shouldn’t? I read we should grab the scruff. Is this correct? Should it be done every time the puppy bites? Should we grab it and then take her to the floor on her side? Thanks Amanda

Hello, I recently got a 5 month old husky female from a AKC registered breeder. She has been home with us for about a week and a half. She is still vary unsure of things, and often trys to find a corner or safe space when we move around. The thing that worrys me is that due to this she is not eating or drinking unless I move her from her space to were the food and water bowls are, and then give her space to eat or drink, even then this dosent always work. She has eaten about 2 cans of dog food and 2 bowls of kibble in a week and a half, wich dosent seem like enough. She also licks her mouth a lot, and wont look at us when we are giving her affection. I figured t…

My boy is 12 month old now. He's been clingy. He's had no issues sleeping downstairs before. The last two nights we've had little sleep as he's been at the bottom of the stairs whimpering in a pathetic whine. I won't allow him upstairs to sleep and never have. I feel as though it's an attention cry. He's well excercise fed watered and let out in the garden pre bed time. I ignored him whimpering after I went down stairs to check everything is OK. I didn't pet him or acknowledge him etc. This is because I don't wish to reward him for whimpering. He has kept me awake the last two nights. He's not my only dog but he is such a big baby any ideas to stop the wimpering. I won't …

As most of you guys know I have been stuck on the couch for the past 6 months. With the advice of you guys I have been slowly welling to work with the pups on getting them to sleep in the bedroom. I purchased another kiddy gate for the hallway and opened the master and the closest bedroom to the living room. Which is where I will sleep for the next couple of weeks until they get used to it. (I can trust they don’t eat everything) Then move to the next.... but a bed!!!! Yay!!! Any ways. I didn’t realize it until this happened. My pups have never seen themselves in a mirror. The boy didn’t care. Hahha But my girl. 😵🤣. Here is her reaction.…

Soooooooooooooo, my partner and I bought a 1 year old purebred husky this weekend. His previous owner has two kids and can't put in the time for training etc. He is so loving and always wants to be around. You can tell he's so young still. I should add I have three cats. He lived with a cat and he absolutely loves them. I'm just not daring to make them meet yet. He has too much training to do yet. I thought I should add this so you know why he isn't allowed in the entire house. He also has peed on the couch when he escaped his area whilst we were gone. So he hasn't been trained very well. He jumps and bites playfully, all he wants to do is play and hasn't learnt that ha…

I went and took my pups into Animal Control to be license. All dogs at 6 months has to be here. While I was talking to some of my old coworkers, a man came walking down the hallway. This man locked eyes with my male pup and started talking to him as he got closer. In a weird way... *They guy stayed about 4 feet away* My pup flattened out and started a low growl then let out a couple of nasty barks. Everyone stopped and looked at me. My old Sgt. said that wasn’t very Husky like. Then my male started telling the guy off in a tone I have never heard him do. I was kinda proud. In my head going, ya that’s right back off dude, but then I was als…

Sorry for the TV noise and yes I was watching home shows LOL I keep blankets on the couch so their legs don’t get caught in between the cushions and break or tear something in their legs. B307E984-9587-4544-8A41-E0469823E931.MOV

So whilest leash training my puppy we use the stop and go method as so far it works best with him. I have seen a huge improvement in the first 5 - 10 minutes of the walk but pretty quickly it turns into him whining whenever we stop. He only started with this about a month ago (so basically when he turned about 6 months) . It sounds so bad sometimes that people come up to me and ask whether he is ok. I thought it might be because he gets impatient and I try to gradually increase the walk time very slowly but in case I am doing something wrong or I am missing why he is actually whining I just wanted to ask here about it. Thanks for any response in advance!

My boy is 11 month old. He is still very clingy. If ever I've gone out I've made sure there is always someone in with him. Regardless of anyone being in he howls and paces up and down for me. I would like to be able to go out sometimes without him in tow. I have other dogs but he is still clingy. I will not use a crate. He does sleep downstairs on a rug all night and howls for a bit while I go to bed then my husband goes to bed later. He gets plenty of excercise. In reality he should be growing out of the clingy Ness by now. Anyone else leave their sibe home alone for a couple of hours crate free and how did they get to this level.

My 7 months old Husky-GSD Mix has had a lot of separation anxiety since I got him at 10 weeks old. He was after all abandoned just a week after being bought and picked up by a shelter where I got him then. When inside the house he doesn't leave my side and switches rooms with me whenever I get up. When I try to close the door to have him stay in a room on his own he won't stop crying and jumps against the door handle to open it. There arent any moments where he is actually forced to be alone as someone is always home but I want to be able to prep him for times when I have doctors appointments for example so he can be alone for 1 - 2 hours. I have tried to expose him to be…

I have been reading you guys comments on the teenage stage. But I was wondering if what my pups are doing is normal prior to this fun next phase. LOL My pups are 8 months next week. As everyone has read, they have always ate anything that can and cannot fit in their mouths. However, in the past few months, they only eat things in the house when someone besides me is watching them. I have always been able to leave them long enough to shower or run down the street for 30 minutes. They would just lay down and be in the same spot when I get back. But now, if my husband or daughter is with them, they will find things to eat right in front of them. Monday while my da…

My Phoenix is almost 6 months old, and has suddenly started resource guarding and becoming food aggressive, to the point of snapping at me. I used to be able to put my hand in his bowl while he was eating. I don’t understand the sudden change, and I certainly don’t want to be fearful of my own dog. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do about it? Sent from my iPhone using Husky Owners mobile app

Hi All, I've been quiet for a while.... my new addition Snowball is having a hard time from "the boss" Taylor. (Both female.) There have been a couple of bites and poor Snowball has tried to be submissive, but Taylor appears to get jealous of attention and lunges at Snowball unexpectedly. I step in of course as quickly as I can, but most recently Taylor bit Snowball on her right paw. It appeared that Taylor got jealous of Snowball when I arrived home. (now I'll go to Taylor first) However I didn't realise that Husky's could feel jealousy in this way. Taylor hasn't been spayed, however Snowball has. Does anyone have any advice towar…

Do huskies have fluffy fear like cats? My boy Logan has recently started to fluff up his back when my father tries to touch him. This started when my father tried to stop him from scratching the door. The hair over his withers fluff up while he shows no other signs of fear or aggression. My father loves him the most but Logan doesn’t reciprocate the same. He is more fond of my sister and me. Is it a husky thing?? That’s him. ❤️

Please bear with me- as this may get a bit long. I need to give his history before I can get to my question(s). We adopted our husky from another family about 6 years ago. He was 2 at the time, and it was the 4th time he was going to a new home. Each family is/was a military family- including us. (This will make sense in a sec.) Comet- His first owners got him as a pup and were very abusive from what we've been told and the way he still reacts to my hubs in uniform & boots. They came down on orders for Germany and decided to give him to a friend instead of taking him. This friend (family #2) put him in a chain link dog run in the back yard and left him wi…

Hi everyone! I've been a quiet member here for awhile, but I'm currently wrestling with a problem that I can't figure out how to correct and was hoping some of you on here may have some insight. My husky, as well as everyone else's, loves to run. I don't have the stamina she does, so I occasionally take her for bike rides, which she begs for almost every day. I've recently graduated her from our quiet street to a busier park or railroad trail. One problem I'm coming up with is that when she sees another dog on the trail while running, she will make a bee line towards that other dog. This is unsafe for a multitude of reasons and I need her to continue to run and …

Hi, I've seen a few paw trekkers for sale. I take my boy out twice a day for a walk but I'm think of getting a pawtrekker to take him on a few runs. I can't run hence why I'm thinking of a scooter. Just wondering if anyone uses one, what age when they started to use one and how long til they managed to train up. Also any good points or bad in using them.

Hi folks I was hoping for a bit of advice. I have an almost 11 week old husky boy called Odin. He isn't my first husky, my girl Kodi passed away a few months ago and I adore the breed and decided on a boy this time around. I seem to be having problems with him that I never encountered with her so I am a bit stumped. Firstly we've been working really hard on toilet training, from the moment we got him we've been taking him outside regularly to do his business and we've also been crate training him. However there are days where I could be outside with him for an age and he won't go to the toilet but will come back inside go straight into the crate and go to the toilet…

Hello! Been gone for a bit, but in back. Sorry for the long post My fur baby is currently 8 months. She is getting stronger and more energetic each day. However, with that have come some behavioral issues. I'm not sure how to address them. There's a few: 1) Xilo loves walks, whether it's with her harness or collar. However, as soon as we go down the porch stairs, and at times while we walk; as soon as she feels she's pulling me (or she sees something/ someone and I don't quicken my pace to go chase it too), she turns around and bites the leash. She bites it, pulls it hard, and sometimes she growls I assume it's at me because I don't let her run free to chase…

Hi everyone! Does anyone have any tips on how to help a husky puppy be more social? My husky is friendly, but she won’t ever go up to a stranger unless she’s touching me or extremely close. She barely leaves my side with new people around, and even after meeting someone multiple times won’t go near them. We’ve tried having them give treats, food, water, toys, and she goes the absolute farthest she can to get what she wants and then scurries back to my side. If I leave her she just does her own thing but won’t let them come close still. If I’m right next to them she sniffs and will let them touch her, and she isn’t aggressive or anything... just extremely disintereste…

Hi all. I have a 6 month old male Husky called Max. Hes well behaved in general (still destroys the odd item here and there) but obeys most commands first try. My biggest struggle at the moment is toilet training him. He knows to go outside, and will do so and i praise him when he does. However he will also go inside by the back door if its not open. This can be at night, or even if we are just watching tv. He wont try to indicate in anyway that he wants to go toilet like our other dog does, so just goes on the floor by the door. How can i train him to say he needs to go outside and thst its not ok to go inside?
