I got a puppy two days ago and my older husky (4) is extremely excited and wants to be with the puppy all the time, the problem is he spends all the time licking the puppy especially his genitals Also older husky got a weird sort of rash on his cheek, the fur appears pink I don't know if it's because puppy has been biting him or if it's his own saliva PS, any tips on how to make the older husky get less excited so he is more gentle when playing with the puppy?

Hi My family and I are on the verge of adopting a Siberian Husky and wanted to make sure we make the right decision before we Do. Previously we had an American Eskimo for 14 years and things went well. After things get back to normal from the virus and my wife go back to work, she’s working from home now and my daughter eventually back to school. There could be times during the day when nobody is home. How long realistically can Siberian Huskies be home alone? The Husky is a 10 month old, we have met and interacted with him already a little bit.

Hello! I’m new to this forum and have really enjoyed lots of threads throughout our puppy journey so I thought I could ask some advice on our situation. Some background: We got our sibe Yuki when she was 8 weeks old (now 16 weeks old) and she was very shy and nervous upon arrival to her new home (totally understandable). She napped quite frequently and within a day she would make her own way to her crate for naps and sleep without any disturbance, this carried on for I would say just over a week. At night as expected she would cry for a while but after a couple days it stopped. So we were very cautious especially around covid to make sure we intr…

Hello, This is my first post on this forum and I hope this is the right sub. I have a 1.5 years old male neutered husky. He's somewhat trained and can follow basic commands. Recently, I reconnected with a friend from high school and found out her family also had a female, about 2 years old, unfixed husky. They got the her as a puppy and they didn't expect her to be the size she is right now. Long story short, the husky has been locked up in the backyard for almost a year with no walks or any social times with the family or other dogs. Though the backyard is big enough for her to run around. I have been spending time with her and taking her on walks for the last …

We rescued Mikey approximately a year ago - and apart from a few months of initial fear agression, dog fights, an occasional nip etc Mikey has settled into a routine and has become a nice, if complicated character. Over the last two months he is changing again. For no apparent reason he is spending considerable time alone - no scraps between the dogs, they still play together for short periods - usually in the house - not garden. However Mikey is now spending around 85-90%% of his time outside - refusing to come into the house other than to eat unless it is raining (he hates the rain) although last night he even stayed outside in the rain - just shelteri…

Hello! First time on the forum so apologies if there is a similar thread already. I have 2 x 5 year old husky boys. While one is practically an angel, the other is more of a handful. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old and he was thoroughly socialised. At first he loved all other dogs but by 2 years old he had to go on the lead full time (for running away one too many times). Since then he has become aggressive towards other dogs. If we have to walk by another dog, he sometimes tries to have a go! It can be quite distressing for all involved. Any ideas why he does this? He has never been attacked by a dog and he is otherwise very sweet. Thank you for reading to th…

👋🏻 hello! So my dad recently bought a Husky of 14months old. He naturally spends all day long inside with us but at night time we have to put him outside, mind you, it’s secured there’s no way he could attack or be attacked/stolen. The only problem is that every time he keeps on crying which is heartbreaking to me yet my parents won’t let him in. This is actually his 5th night with us on the two first days he cried and banged on the door nonstop the third one he cried but no banging, same on the fourth and tonight he only cried when someone passed by him. Do you guys think he’ll get accustomed to the situation? And does it hurt him to be outside? I read that they’re …

My pup is settling in well. Hes complete untrained. Hes a rescue. I'm exposing him to different areas on walks but he growls at people and barks. I think it's more of fear. Any ideas how to stop this behaviour. Hes got a real deep growl and scared people. I try the distraction method which he ignores and sometimes its impossible to walk another way.

Hi All I have a 6 month old male pup that we have had from 9 weeks old. Over the last few weeks he has started to act aggressive with my wife and today with the mother in law. He will growl and snap when he is put in his crate. He is told crate and freely walks in but when the door is being closed he will growl and snap through the crate door. Today the mother in law came round and he was fine with her, when she when to go put some rubbish in the bin he growled and then went to bite her this happened outside in the garden. This is my third Siberian and i have never experienced this with Milo (male passed away 18 months ago) and Akira (my 9 year old intact fema…

Just got a rescue pup. Hes very nervous, growling at me which I've never had that from a dog before. Hes really nervous knows no commands and very skittish not toilet trained. Nothing bad happened to him just a puppy thats been in refuge. I suspect due to lockdown its lack of socialisation which explains why he does not know how to walk on a leash. He seems to go on puppy pads but when I catch him about to go I try to tell him to go in garden ( not shouting) and try to get him to go in the garden to toilet but hes terrified. The same with commands . I'm trying to train him to sit hes terrified . Any advice to get him out of this fear. He gets on with my other dog they p…

I have two five-year-old female huskies that are sisters from the same litter. With the current situation they're with me all day, but they seem to be getting into mischief more than usual. Aside from going for walks they're indoors with me all day and they're being destructive even with me right in the next room. I'm searching for anything I can buy online (my state isn't currently open to purchase much in store) that would be an indestructible toy or something that would really engage their brains. They are big chewers so I haven't found that rubber toys work well for more than a couple of days at best as they just enjoy chewing them. I currently have Benebones which th…

Hi, I need some help trying to understand some growling. I recently found a female husky from a rescue and Winter is probably 2 or 3 years old. She’s definitely and omega-type dog, very submissive. I also have a female husky/Pyrenees mix named Miska and a female yorkie named Bella. I’ve had Winter for a few days now and she was an owner surrender along with her husky brother. She was at the rescue about a month. She’s been a very good girl but I’ve noticed a few times that she would growl primarily at Miska if she got too close. It’s not a long growl but kind of short. Miska is very gentle and sweet and Bella is a bit hyper but standoffish. I took Winter to the vet a…

We recently got a siberian husky about 2 weeks ago at 2 months old. I have been home because of quarantine. I now have to go back to work on a limited schedule and was wondering if anyone can help me with a routine to follow in the morning while I have to get ready for work and leave. Puppy is very energetic in the morning, I have to leave by 7-7:15 for work and want to tire him out before I go. My mother in-law is stopping by around 11:30 to take him out and feed him lunch, and then again around 2pm to take him out again. My husband will be home by 4:30pm from work and will be able to play/walk him then until I get home around 6pm.

Hello all! Just a quick question, we recently adopted our siberian husky bitch 2 months ago, since then she has settled in great at home with us with some training, but we thought she would like some company so we have recently got a 8 week old shepsky. (german shephard/husky) We decided to introduce the two dogs slowly using baby gates and crate, our little boy is feeling very uncomfortable in the crate so we have took him out and let him use the full run of upstairs via the baby gate.. so our big girl has the full run of downstairs and they are completely safe. They sniff each other through the gate, and mishka (big girl) has been putting he…

Hi there! I just got my husky pups three weeks ago. One of them is 3 months old (the other just 2 months) and I just started taking her out on walks. But it is always a struggle that she keeps on jumping around and pulling on the leash. I stop walking everytime she does that but I don't think she gets it. Also, she is always distracted with a lot of things at home. She rarely comes when called. I would like to train her outside her crate but she is just so distracted. What do I do to stop her pulling on the leash during walks? And how do I get her attention so we could train?

Sooo my husband and I are new to the husky game. We don’t know anything about our pup because he just showed up one day in our backyard in Texas. He is chipped and we called and text the numbers with no reply. A month goes by and we’re like yup he’s ours. He’s a great dog. He was suuuuper skinny when he showed up so he must have been on the streets for a bit. He got a long really well with our 3yr old daughter (she even started having less anger issues). Fast forward to now - we’ve moved to Colorado in a bigger apartment but no longer with a back yard. Loki has free range of the apartment most of the time. Since the move he’s become aggressive towards our 19month old…

Ok. So it appears we seem to have lost our old poll regarding people's personal preferences for on lead/off lead walking with their huskies. Here's a new one and please feel free to add your vote. Just choose one option please. I've tried to make the votes anonymous as I know how controversial this subject can be and appreciate you may be feel more comfortable with voting being done this way.

We recently added a new member to our family. Thinking she would be a family dog but so far that’s not the case. She is 17 weeks old. We have had her for 2 weeks. She wants nothing to do with my fiancé and I. She won’t come to us, if we approach her she walks or runs away. We can barely touch her and she acts afraid of us so we try to give her her space but she is attached to my 10 year old daughter. She constantly wants to be with her and is always wanting to be in her room with her and sleeps with her. We have allowed this to go on for over a week. She actually slept in her bed the first few nights. I think because she was too scared to go down the hallway where my daug…

Hey y'all! I have a 16 week old female husky puppy, we have had her since she was 6 weeks old. The first week we had her we tried to crate train her but she was pooping & peeing in the crate & having to have a bath every day sometimes multiple times a day. So we started leaving her in our basement at night, she will poop & pee down there but when it comes to pooping & peeing outside she will not do it. She will occasionally pee outside but in the entire 10 weeks we have had her she has only pooped outside 1 time & that was the first night we brought her home. We take her outside every 30 minutes-an hour & she will pee maybe once or twice a day outs…

Hi I just wanted to share some pretty strange behavior that my sibe just displayed. So Leia was eating out of her Kong and I was working on my computer when Leia looked up from her food and stared directly out my window. She immediately started howling which she only does when theres a stranger around. I get up to look out the window and see if maybe the gardeners were outside but nope, no one but me and Leia were around. I turned around to calm her down since her back fur was standing up but she just curled up into a corner of my room with her ears back. She turned her back on her food which is extremely odd for her and just layed there. I sat with her for a bit and calm…

Hi we rescued a 10 month old Siberian husky back in September. She is about a year old now and has quite a bit of issues. Now a lil background from her. She was found as a stray and was taken to a shelter and was there for 2 months. She ended up on the euth list due to kennel stress and tapeworm. She was rescued by another shelter, was there for a lil bit and then adopted out. This new family had a senior border collie, who, they had hoped, would lighten up a bit with a puppy in the house. This did not work. The border collie hated her and she spent the next couple weeks outside...in a kennel....tethered. So she hates crates now. We tried to crate train her and show crate…

I'm confused as to whether Lola is just shy or terrified of humans. Just to give you guys a few scenarios : 1. I live with 2 housemates and they always wanted to cuddle with Lola the way she allows me to. Lola will run away from them the minute they reach out their hands. If she knows they have food in their hands, she'll take the food and then run away. It's getting better nowadays, where she'll play with them or follow them around, but any attempt to pet her, she'll bolt. 2. During her second week of stay, I have friends over for dinners and thought it's a good chance for her to socialize with large groups of humans. She just seems to want not…
