When you begin teaching commands to your husky before teaching them to pull what would be the best reward? Food or praise or a mix? I'm going to start Kiana with command training today (Gee, Haw, and such) and was wondering what the appropriate reward would be so she knows she did the right thing?

Hi guys. So in October my landlady brought Aleu a kennel and run for over £100 as a gift and suprise to us. And she's noticed I'm not really putting Aleu in there and she is starting to think I'm ungreatful to her for it. But it's got nothing to do with that, as soon as I put Aleu in her, she cries bloody murder and has done several damage to the kennel and run, the doors already had to be replaced and two sections of the safety mesh. Yesterday I put her in there, went for 10 minutes, came back and shed gotten her head stuck through the mesh from where she'd chew a hole in it to get out. The replacement parts for the run are costing a bomb and I c…

Hi there, Aleu is just bigger than a border collie, she weighs about 18kg; she gets an hour walk in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon too and an hour at night. She has a backpack, this on to be exact: How often would use this on a dog like Aleu and what kind of weight would you use? I've been previously advised between 10-20% of her body weight by the *coughjerkcough* dog psychologist that SHWA said was a bad weight for her to carry and have been suggested bottles of water instead. In sense of water; what size bottles would you use? 500ml either side? 250ml either side? Or would you use something else? …

Ok.. not sure how I can deal with this.. as i'm on the other side of the door when it happens.. When Neo goes overboard on his nipping.. we put him in the kitchen for time out.. all of a sudden he's started scratching at the door.. Now.. we know shouting won't change anything.. and we know we need to ignore the behaviour.. SO.. how do we stop him doing it ??? lol He's not crated.. so that's not an option at the moment.. Just wondered if anyone had an idea at all..

Hello, I had a issue between my 12 year old daughter and me 2 year old male named Nookie. Daughter was laying on the floor watching TV, dog decided to get agressive, whether or not he intended to harm her but he grabbed on her arm and left mild punctures on her forearm. Needless to say, he is almost out the door. So I am coming to you folks. I also have problems with him being very agressive towards anyone that lives outside the household, my parents and wifes parents, basically anyone who does not reside at my residence. I have to place him in his kennel during there visit. His temperment is growling towards them, a glowing eyed sta…

Hey guys, Spirit's been mischievous lately....she been digging through garbage can every now and than when we're not home. We come home to find the mess and cleans it up, sometimes we punish her by putting her into her time-out zone. But she continues to dig through the garbage can =.= and sometimes it's just frustrating to come home to garbage all over the floor. She doesn't do this when we're home, she's calm and sleeps when we're home but just a little mischievous/bad when we're out at work. By the way....we've tape down our garbage =P Does anyone have any idea what to do or how to cure or change her behaviour in a good way so i wouldn't be coming…

For the last month she's starting to get worse. She's becoming very aggressive towards Joey, other dogs she is fine, he's not doing ANYTHING to provoke her, she's not in season. Some times he'll be casually eating a bone and then she'll come over and get all defensive?!?!? When i come home from work (YES THEY GET WALKED) she starts scratching and licking the base of the door, winging and whining!! (she done this even when we where home). She doesn't have separation anxiety, that part was fixed many months ago! Her eating has got better, though since blowing her coat she looks gross and skinny, though she has put weight on! I am no…

Hi guys, After the rally at the weekend I have decided to get a rig, and not a 2nd hand one either, Im going for a brand new one!! Just thought this might be interesting to some of you, but I have been in touch with a few companies who are willing to do payment plans, for people who cant just slap down 500 quid on a rig (like me) Now its not a case of pay a deposit, get the rig, then continue withthe payment (unfortunately), they do hold the rig until your fully paid up, but thats understandable These companies/makes are happy to do them, and may also do them on scooters aswell: Steeldog Cudos (but will not do o…

Kiana has started this odd behavior over the past two months and I just can't figure out how to address it or if I should address it. When she was a pup I taught her to sit and wait for her food and then would tell her good girl go get it. She usually hopped right up and ate. Suddenly she's decided that she won't eat at all unless I run her through a series of tricks and rewarding her with kibble. Usually four or five tricks and then she'll dive right into her bowl. I'm not really sure what to do with that? Is she just abnormally bored or something else? She won't eat at all unless I do this and she's gone two or more days without food because of it. I didn't worry about …

I took the dogs out again today, just around to the corner shops so we could get some lunch, this time i had them in their walking harnesses. Now it is a Saturday so there were quite a few people out with their dogs. Now usually this would be fine. But Phoenix is so damn protective of Zara that he gets very dominant with other dogs. But he doesn't act aggressive. Today some idiot decided to let their little Maltese out of their car off lead and it ran straight for my two. Phoenix intercepted it and made it squeak but didn't hurt it. The man picked up his dog apologizing and then let Phoenix and Zara sniff at the other dog while it was trying to wriggle and get…

I met a few huskys at the dog park near me but my girl got into a bit of a scuffle and bit the other dog (not badly but...)and im terrified to have her around other dogs. She supposedly is fine with other dogs was fine with that dog when we had them meet on the lead and she was fine before and after that, but they were playing and i'm wondering if she just felt overwhelmed? *Sighs* So scratch that idea and im going to just try and take her there when no one else is there and all... I'm considering maybe buying her a muzzle just so she can get used to being around other dogs off lead and not try to eat them if she gets over whelmed.. She's NOT dog agressive, doesn…

whenever kiya sees another dog all she does is bark and howl ,she is 5 months old and we want to get her out of this.she does not get aggressive just noisy.our next door neighbours have now got and got a lab puppy and when it is let out for the toilet all she does is run up and down the garden fence barking and howling at there dog.she does the same to every dog she meets, patch did do this for a short while but he is now 6 months old and has stopped.he is fine with the neighbours dog but does tend to chase kiya when she is barking as tho to tell her to be quiet.we are wondering if kiya will do the same or this will be a continous issue.she has always seen lots of dogs as…

Monday, November 15, 2010 So after realizing Kayla had a problem being aggressive to other dogs I decided to get some help with her. I have just received a call back from the final reference and I believe I'll be going with Canine Cottage here locally. The woman seems wonderful I guess I am just nervous about the whole situation. She will be stopping by to do a home evaluation tomorrow. While I am nervous I'm actually excited at the same time to get my girl back to being able to go to dog parks without worry even walking down the road without worry of harm coming to her and the other dogs as well. Even just talking with her while I did I learned a f…

Hey everyone, So I recently asked the question on sibespace about what Harness to get for Shadow and seem to have brought up a whole other question as to where its best to attach my gangline to my scooter seeing as how it doesnt have a proper attatchment point! I was GOING to attach it round the bottom of the handle bar stem but it was pointed out that this will pull the weight off my back wheel and be dangerous when breaking...... have asked the question on sibespace too but take a look at the pics and see where would be a good point to attatch the line??? Thanks all!!

Rose came round today and we took all 5 dogs up the feild for a training run... They were so good!! I snubbed them to a post while getting stuff ready and Grey did not wanna wait (they are used to running straight away) and he was pulling on the lead and making a whole lotta noise, it actually sounded like we were at a rally!! We set off and there was this nugget with a GSD, he saw us stop and hold the dogs but just kept chucking tha ball and didnt even bother calling the dog back to him, he then let the dog come and greet ours, till we told him that the grey ones didnt like other dogs, he soon called it back then! lol Once he was outta t…
