I have read lots of threads on this forum but I wanted to get a better idea of how everyone's dogs behave in general and how that relates to my age so we can all get a better idea of general Husky behavior for those of us who don't have more than one dog to really get an idea. Flash is 1 year old. When he is calm he will sit down or lie down and sleep but if he is excited or has a hyper moment he will jump up and paw me and nip at me. Likewise he has a strange habit of laying down on his side and paddling like he is swimming in the air and then growling a bit - if I then touch his tummy he will try and nip at me. I know he doesn't want to hurt me - he…

Hi, I have looked at a couple of topics on here, but didn't want to resurrect "dead threads". I have no idea how to deal with Anya when she has defecated where she shouldn't (we have puppy pads in the house, so it's not just about doing it inside). I don't want to punish her because I feel that shows me to be a bad trainer / owner. Just really struggling - I spend half my time with spray in one hand and cloth / tissues in the other (if she has missed the pad) and she will go through a pack of 80 in just over a week. We have a walk at least once a day, she is VERY good at being at the back door wanting to go out, but there are other times when sh…

A little while ago we took willow to the beach and she decided to drink the salt water by snapping at the waves etc. She then of course got sick and had diarrhoea (luckily not in the car) I thought she would have realised that sea water = bad but every time we take her she tries to drink the water which is unfortunate because now we dont take her very often and she loves splashing and swimming in the water Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. We just got our Husky puppy recently, she's 8 weeks old and as cute as can be. However, I have a question. Is it normal for them to cry for hours at night in their crate? I don't think she sleeps more than a couple of minutes a night, which means we don't either. Should we not let her nap as much in the evening time? I understand much of the crying is her acclimating to a new environment. We put her in her crate around 11 or so at night and let her out a couple of times during the night so she can go to the bathroom. But she will cry non-stop between those times. I'm sorry if I sound incoherent, I haven't had much sleep the past t…

Does anyone use booties when running their dogs to protect their pads on harder/rougher surfaces? What would be your opinion on this? Thanks

I don't remember where exactly I found this but when max was a pup, I came across a "clicker". Basically, it's a little noise maker that makes a "click". You create the association that a click means treats. So you click it and give them a treat, click treat, click treat. That way, when they hear the click sound, they know something good is coming. So, when you're training them and trying to teach or reinforce something, when they do it right, you click and it marks the behavior exactly as they do it so they aren't confused as to what they did by the few seconds it takes for them to be treated. They know exactly what it is that earns them a reward.. We've…

Hi all, We recently adopted a 21/2 year old(vet/rescue guess) male who has issues with the wife and son. To explain, we got him home a week before christmas after a couple of visits and long walks whilst at the kennels and he behaved more or less impeccably. Over the christmas break he was very good with family but on new years eve we went backwards dramatically. He decided to jump up and have a face to face with the wife growling and snarling, once I had put him back on the floor and calmed him he was fine and returned to his normal self with me. With the wife however he has a fickle streak, grumbling and raising his hackles whenever she attempts to make a fu…

So my 3 month almost 4 month old male pees...AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT! He has no problem holding #2 until we get outside but when it comes to peeing its ridiculous! Its almost as if as soon as he has to go even a little bit he will! This literally gives me no time to take him outside unless I took him out every 45 minutes. I leave a water bowl down for him at all times is that a problem? He does drink excessively. I don't feel like its a territorial thing because he doesn't go around the house peeing on things but mainly in one spot in the kitchen. Should I not give him a full bowl of water at all times? Is it just because he is still a baby and has a small bladder/ca…

so Zoey is a total brat, she's going to drive me crazy. She's a great and obedient puppy in the house, comes bouncing when I call her name. But we have an issue. When we're at the dog park she doesn't listen at all. I don't know what to do with her. Embrys about 80% on recalls and is getting better every day, I may have to call him a few times but he will eventually come and if he doesn't he at least looks at me (probably laughing!!) but Zoey doesn't even do that! She just keeps going on her merry little way! When she was with the breeder she was really good on recall, she was even off lead. Is it just because she still doesn't trust me??? I don't get it. Sometimes she …

My 11 week old, Sophie growls and tries to bite me when I go to pick her up. When we first got her, she would kind of make a grumble noise when I went to pick her up. Now it's progressed to an all out aggressive growl. I pick her up when she's sleeping in the kitchen or on the bed to move her to her bed since when she's tired, she won't move even if there's a fire! I try telling her No in a firm voice, but she doesn't seem to get it, the growling first made me mildly uncomfortable, but now that she's trying to bite me, it's become a problem. I thought maybe I was hurting her when I picked her up, but she growls when I simply place my hand under her. I've tried picking her…

Flash has been a real pain in the arse when inside these last 2 days. He will run around and bark more than is normal. He has snapped at me when stroking him when he lies down and when my mum was stroking him normally. He has also snapped when I tried to give him new water and food. I guess the only way to sort this out is to put him outside im his bed area until he learns to behave again. I have a crate being delivered tomo for him so once he learns to go inside that would be good for calming him down! Is it a good idea to put him out all night if he is naughty late at night? Or better to leave him for 5 minutes to calm down? The other p…

I bet most of you came in here thinking I would be complaining about a puppy eating furniture and what not but surprisingly that's not my issue! My 3 month old eats anything that is dropped on the floor. Today I had a water bottle and dropped the bottle cap on accident he picked it up and ran with it immediately...when I went over to him to take it out of his mouth he ended up swallowing it. The first time I had ever seen him do something like this is when I first fed him a chicken wing the other day, I let it go for a second and when a cat walked by him he swallowed it whole. I am concerned about this because when he swallowed the cap to the bottle it got stic…

What's the best technique to teach this? I know dogs sniff and that huskies have a high prey drive Usually I don't mind her sniffing and what not as long as she's keeping up with me.. She walks nice too, until she really wants something lol But today.. It's been raining and there was this trench full of frogs and animals, she just lunged herself towards it, this is pretty hazerdous.... What if she does this while crossing the street? I don't want any casualties She's not very food oriented, so what's a good way to teach this without food?

I took Milla in for her nail trim today. First she started screaming and causing a ruckus, so I yelled to her to be quiet and didn't hear anything more. Turns out they had had to muzzle her to get the claws clipped! I'm so embarrassed! The technician said lots of huskies don't like being held closely, which is what she was objecting to more than the clip. She's not a very cuddly dog and she's pretty mouthy, but I never expected her to need muzzling. Help! Other than playing with her feet (which I had been doing), are there other things I can do to make her more cooperative with the nail trim? I had just taken her to the dog park for an hour to wear her out befo…

Whenever I feed Kiska she's good with being calm before I give it to her (or as good as she can be when I prepare it while she's out of the room ), but when she does get it she really wolfs it down, that can't be very good for her tummy She sicked up her dinner during the night last night (she's been fine today, even her poos are mostly solid now) and it looked almost the same as when it went in =/ I tried today to play with her food and take it away while she was eating and while she's not aggressive, it just makes her try to chomp it down even faster and the sides of her tummy in front of her hips really tucked in like she was straining and tensing SO HARD to get back…

Ok so yesterday I caught Zihna digging under the fence and the hole was quite large already and I was able to peek through to the "outside world". Although I always check on her every few minutes when she is outside. I guess she is getting bigger now and so are the holes she dig's. For now I put some poop in the hole and she did not go back to it so that always works. I don't mind her digging I just don't want her to dig her self out of the yard. So today when I did poop patrol in the yard I took some poop and laid it along the fence line hoping that will discourage her to dig till the husband comes home in about 1 week. Of course that is only a temporary solution for now…

So now that I have a puppy on a show contract I'd like to learn about the different kinds of shows in my area. I've been to a few AKC shows before and know a little about them. My mom used to drag me to them when I was little and she was showing her english setters. But I just found out about UKC and International All Breed Canine Association. Anyone here go to these shows? It looks like there's at least one UKC show here in FL and two Iabca shows this year. Anyone know how to get more detailed info on each show? Cause I can just find the dates, but not who's entered and where and the times.

Just thought that this might get people thinking.... Headcollars, haltis, check chains, no pull harnesses..... This discussion comes up quite often on the board, with members wanting to know which one is the best I used to use a halti on Kira, and I've used one on Grey, but I've changed my viewpoint after seeing the difference between them walking on a halti and walking on just a collar... Think about this, Sibes are bred to PULL, its in their genes, its hardwired into them, over hundreds of years, everything about them is designed to run and pull, its the whole reason they exist. So why stop them from doing it? You wouldnt stop a golden r…

I did have problems with my last siberian, Lucy. I want to make sure I don't have those problems with my next puppy. So, I'd like to make adjustments and know the solution or solutions to those problems and how to prevent them. The situation: I got Lucy at about 15 weeks old. I had her for 2 months before rehoming. I rehomed her because, realizing it would be better if she were inside with me, I wanted her in the house but my parents wouldn't let me. So I rehomed her to family that would bring her inside. So any way, I kept her in a very long and very high pen. Information: I walked her 3 walks a day, 45 mins to hour each walk. After a walk…
