well i should imagine most of you know that i have a young pup...my little thunder paws i have decided for a number of reasons to try and train him to walk to heel. i may also show him at a later date. I am partly sad as i love how storm pulls but i quite fancy the challenge. as he's a young pup i feel its a good opportunity to train him. Thunder is very toy and food motivated so that offers me encouragement!!! LOL So i thought i would do a bit of a brief diary for a reference for others how long it can take!! LOL So day one - i've chosen a harness whcih was recommended to me by someone who has 12 huskys who all walk to heel & can be…

Hi all Hope you are all well? Looking for some help with our girls! the pups are now 1 and our diezel turns 4 in January, Diez is normally the top dog around the house but of late foxy has been pushing her boundaries, thats not the problem the problem is she is pushing the boundaries of Candy and Diezel which keeps ending in those 2 scrapping and Foxy hiding under the chair or behind us. She winds one of them up to play, jumps on their head or bites their paw, and as soon as the one she has targetted reacts she hides behind the innocent bystander who then thinks that the one thats being wound up is having a go! Right now the scor…

I started this on another forum last year and it was good while it lasted but not enough people kept up so it kinda died out throughout the season. This year I figured I'd give it a shot her instead. All good race mushers will tell you one of the best things you can do to improve your team is to keep a training journal. This way you can go back through the logs and see where you have made improvements or even diagnose minor problems before they become real issues. Keeping track also helps to keep you on the right path on achieving yours goals and helps you to make sure you arent pushing your dogs too hard too fast or perhaps holding them back too much. Having others …

My puppy is crazy! I swear she's a cross between a wolf, a cat, and an energy drink! I try to tire her out by playing in the yard and having her chase toys and chew on her chew toys but she never gets tired out! She is always a spaz and is beginning to really annoy my family with her constant biting that is getting worse as she grows. I can't take her on long walks yet because she is only 8 weeks old and not fully vaccinated so all of her exercise is in the yard or in the house. She stays in my room a lot because whenever I let her out in the house she destroys everything and is uncontrollable. She just runs away from me if she grabs something that I don't want…

I feed my puppy the recommended amount of food for her size and age divided into three meals a day at 7, 12, and 5 (17h). Despite that, if you saw her about one hour before and one hour after feeding time, you'd think I was starving her! She goes crazy. Before I feed her, she knows it's getting close and starts sniffing around everywhere. After I feed her she always wants more and keeps coming over to me to get it. She's not skinny, she's been dewormed, has normal stool, and is on a really good puppy food. Something tells me this is just normal husky puppy behavior, is that correct?

So Kira has now been in my home for 3 full days she is kind of a rescue at 10 weeks but now is 11 weeks. First night I layed her blanket in the crate and she walked right in and went to sleep I starte to shit the gate and she looked at me like " Uhh what are you doing??" haha so I grabbed my pillow and layed outside the crate in front of the door until she fell asleep. Then I shut the gate and any right to bed no problems until 6am which was perfect. Well this last night was an all different story. When it was time for bed at 10:20pm I took her outside before she did her thing sniffed aroun for a bit and came back in. Well I did everything the same as the night before lay…

I have a 10 month old Siberian Husky, who is a male. His name is Sebastian. I've had him since he was about 12-14 weeks old. Training him has been quite a mess. He knows his name, when I call it he will look at me and acknowledge his name. Like if I am in my room and I let him roam the apartment if I yell out Sebastian he will run into my room. I've been trying to teach him sit, it's been so-so. If I walk towards the closet, where his treats are kept and say sit he will do it instantly with no hesitation. But anywhere else it takes a few times of saying "sit" before he does and sometimes he doesn't. Bringing him around other dogs can be hellish, he is not neut…

didnt use the walkydog cuz it was getting dark n i didnt have the patience to set it up lol, so i just put her in her harness and clipped her lead around the front of the handle bars n set off, little bit slow to start with but we soon picked up a gentle pace me slowly peddling behind her whilst she trotted just ahead of the bike - so she needs to learn to run/pull once shes in her harness who thought that would be said about a sibe lol - she just doesnt pull! we saw 2 cats - 1 she ran towards but once we got to the end of the path where we turn (we did our walk route) she re-focused and carried on, she saw a dog so pulled abit faster - and ran - so i stopped…

I was at the Dog park today with my sibe, and she got very possessive over this orange tennis ball. And Jack Russell started to bark at her and tried to take it away from her and Soju just snapped and went into an aggressive mode. She didn't hurt anyone but she growled and started snapping her mouth at the dog and when I stepped into stop her she kinda bit me, more like a hard nib. I'm starting to worry about her, she used to be so friendly...but these days she seems to get aggressive for no reason at other dogs. I feel like she's learning from the aggressive dogs at the park. I don't know what to do, I don't want her to become aggressive and bite a dog, we've had a …

Hey guys, me again. I just wanted to share Lucy's progress in the last few days. Lucy is now really good at "sit" and is getting better and better at "down". I'm also teaching her "off" and "take it". She's not very good at those two yet but she learns quickly and I bet she'll figure them out soon. Lucy also is doing remarkably well on a leash! I tried earlier in the week to take her outside on the leash without any luck. I thus gave her a few days to just get used to having a collar on and then decided to try again today. Lucy did very well! At first I just tied the leash on her and she was being rowdy and was chewing on it but then I got her distracted …

Well, its been a while since I posted something. I've been visiting family and what not. Anyway, we took the boys to the vet today for their second set of shots and microchips. Koda did great. He wasn't scared at all when the vet gave him the shots. However, Silas didn't not like it when the vet was putting the microchip in between his shoulder blade and he snapped at the vet. He then snapped at the vet when he received his shot and when the vet went down to pet him. That was actually the first time he has snapped at anybody since the first week or two that we had him--and those bites were because he was afraid. We are trying to get him into the eye doctor to see what exac…

I didnt plan to, but I had tried to turn an old scooter into a sled type thingy.... we hitched the dogs up and it was soo difficult for them I was barely moving So I put it back indoors and we decided to walk them instead. Which is bloody difficult when both dogs have their harness on and are ready to RUN! We went to the park opposite us as it would be safer than the paths which were turning icey in places, so we opted for the thick untouched snow Rick had Grey and I clipped kira's lead around my waist so she could pull. She was down low to the ground really pulling so i started jogging Im not a fan of strenuous exercise but thought i…

Hello! My husky wont play fetch with me D=, I've used rope toys, teddies, squeekers, tennis balls, but nothing. She will pick it up every now and again, but not very often and soon gets distracted. I've tried acting like it's the most amazing thing in the world, and she's still not interested. If I use my clicker when she actually picks it up she just becomes more interested in the food. I just want to be able to play with my dog D= Any ideas? Stacey xxx

Walking is something everyone with a dog does. It becomes part of daily life and is probably one of the reasons you considered getting your pet in the first place, having that four-legged companion to explore the countryside with. TEAMWORK Backpacking with your pet is a great experience, and for those of you who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, what better way to do so than with your dog? Backpacking can be a challenging and rewarding experience for both of you. Dogs enjoy carrying packs and, providing you start training correctly, this is a fun activity that can be done time and time again, You will be able to go for longe…

This isn't a husky but I'm hoping someone might be able to help. My friend has a 5 year old neutered male jack russel called TJ. He's completely house trained and knows to ask to go outside when he needs to pee, but we've had a few incidents recently where he's gone inside the house and we can't figure out why. He's naturally a bit of a shy/nervous dog (though when he's with her other jack russel Molly he's a bit bolder) but earlier he was acting even weirder - he got out of the bed where Molly and Holly were sleeping to lay on the floor in a weird position and just wouldn't settle. He was wandering aimlessly around the room, sitting every now and then to stare…

I was looking up people in my area to possibly help me teach Kiana the fundamentals of pulling and make sure I"m doing it right without endangering her health in any way and I came across this site. It's very interesting and informative and even lists local mushers in various places that you could contact for help/advice. Thought I'd post it and hope it helps someone out http://www.sleddogce..._list_index.htm They even have a list of a few training trails lol http://www.sleddogcentral.com/training_trails/index.htm

Which tends to be best for huskys/malamutes/wolf dogs ? My girls a husky but i'm working with a friend's Malamute/Husky/wolf cross and they're both pretty bad at walking on the leash. I'm not sure which would be better for the breed? Don't really want to get both. Also, will it make them worse pullers walking in a harness? My girl always slips out of her collar due to all her neck hair. Thanks!
