As much as I love having cat poo all over the utility room when Anya decides to use it as her own personal digging spot, I was hoping that some seasoned cat and husky owners might have some tips and tricks for avoiding this. Apparently it's minging. Bleurgh. Seriously though, the cats are being very good (for a change) and using the litter tray, but Anya is then diggin all of it out and treating it like a snack bar! I don't want to remove the litter tray altogether because cat week and poo is worse than dogs' in my opinion, but there must be a method or something. Anya is doing my nut in by spreading it everywhere! Help!

Hello all! My wife and I recently got a beautiful Husky boy, and this will be her first pup, first Husky ever as she has been a cat person. Husky's have always been her favorite breed, however we've not lived in the right places to have them, its always been states that are too hot, or apartments. Now we live in the woods with a creek in the backyard, a river and a big hill in the woods next to our house in northern IN/border of Michigan area. I've had only one Husky before a long time ago, but I've always had Red & Blue Heelers for 25 years, so I'm no expert on Huskies. I'm just helping her with her first pup and want it to bond with her even though I'm training…

While reading about training Siberian Huskies, I read a few articles that stressed that puppy classes are completely necessary and follow up obedience training classes are extremely advised/highly recommended. In most of the puppy kindergarten classes I've checked out though, they just stress the basics: sit, down, come, stay, clicker and treat training. We're going to be observing a class this weekend at a training facility called Ahimsa (click for link). It sounds promising as they also include steps to get your puppy not so dependent on treats for motivation. We've had bouts where Athena will see that we've got no treats in our hands for her and she'll just ignore us. …

This is a little hard to describe but I will do my best....... When spirit first see's another dog he immediately fixates on it and cant get over to it quick enough. we have tried getting his attention in the past which we can sometimes achieve but not for long enough. As we approach he makes this wierd loud howling wooo woooing sound thats really quite intimidating for the owner and the other dog. Once we meet them he jumps at the dog and on top of it if possible. Or if the owner is put of by his demionic behaviour and walks straight past spirit will try to get to it. However he can play with dogs absolutely fine once he gets over this crazy behaviour. This…

So crate training is going well... Athena is quiet in her crate at night. We still need to work on her being comfortable in there while we're away. We're leaving the crate door open throughout the day when we're home and she's gotten accustomed to napping in there and such. But recently, she's started going in there just to destroy her bed. I try to distract her with play and she falls for it for a minute but then she just turns and decides that she'd rather go to her crate and chew the fluff out of her bed. I'm worried that she might swallow the cottony fibers or something. Maybe the bed is too fluffy? I might try to put a throw blanket in there instead. I've heard huski…

Ok so i have 2 Huskies as you guys know but the younger one Rufus (almost 5 months) just doesn't seem to like going for walks !!!!! he would much rather stay in (especially if its raining) or play in the back garden. Makes no difference if i take them one at a time or together. They get on well together Rufus will go see other dogs and people when we are out walking, he isn't bothered about traffic so it i don't think its a fear thing. When i get the leads Sky will come straight over to me and wait but Rufus will just go into a different room !!! he will let you put his harness and lead on without struggling so i don't think its the harness he doesn't like then when we go…

So looking after a couple of other huskies has thrown up some questions for me about my girls possesive nature and I am wanting opinions on just how much is normal and how much needs to be curbed... She is very dominant, of our two dogs and when we get together with other dogs, she is most deffianlty THE BOSS... She humps other dogs to let them know shes the boss and does other little subtle doggy behaviours to establish her dominance. She knows Im boss of the dogs and respects that so thats not an issue and for the most part she will give up things to me willingly. But when with other dogs she is possesive of resources, food and toys mainly. When w…

Hey, I'm new to the site and am trying to find some examples of what an ideal dog house for a husky should look like. I have a 1.5 year old daughter (husky) and am planning on building her a custom house. Please post pictures of your houses here or redirect me. (I tried using the search bar and didn't find anything).

Odin has been with us for a few months now. When I went to get him from the woman who took him off the streets she was very honest with me and told me he had issues about being possessive with bones when it comes to other dogs. She literally told me and within 2 minutes he went after one of my dogs who got too close to a treat that had fallen to the floor. Days later an employee at Petco gave Cheyenne and Odin a cookie each while I had them in the store. Odin ate his as quick as possible (he was very grabby as well) and Cheyenne is weird with food so she dropped hers. The second it hit the floor (her head was still down) he went for her. Because of the cookie. I straighte…

I am actually finding this quite hard to type as I feel as though i've done something wrong but I don't know what, so am hoping someone can offer me some help and advice. As you know i got both my boys from pups - both have been brought up in exactly the same way - both are brothers although 1 yr apart in age and both have their own distinct personality yet both are equally loved. During mealtimes, over the last couple of months, I've noticed more and more that Kaiser is afraid of food. Bear with me I know it sounds weird....... Here's what happened tonight when i fed them Kimba comes over to me and rests his head on my lap, …

I've had a choke collar ever since got got my Sibe mix but he still pulls on walks. I'm using it correctly and I'm exercising the pack leadership thing over him, but he still pulls! It's probably just instinct. Have any of you found more effective ways to control your Sibe while walking?

I know there are TONS of opinions on training methods and tools. The prong collar is certainly no exception. Some people swear by them, some people hate them, some people will never use them, etc. I'd just like to share some of my experiences using one with Lyra. We've done a lot of leash training with Lyra since she was 8 weeks old. Not necessarily the "heel" command so much as loose leash walking. A lot of people argue that huskies are bred to pull, which is true, but I personally don't think that means they aren't able to be trained to walk nicely on a leash. For the most part Lyra isn't a huge puller, but she does have her moments, and she is starting to ge…

Has anyone tried different ways? I been thinking about which one would be best for me. I suck on skates so I think I will scratch that option right away, I can barely keep myself upright without a dog attached . With the bike I am a bit worried if she does not go where I want to go or if I have to stop real fast for whatever reason if I would be able to control the situation or end up on my bum. Seems as the scooter would be the easiest as you are already standing and it should be easier to control if you have to hop off real fast if needed too. Any thoughts on that? Won't be doing any of this until fall or so when she is old enough and …

Let me start this off by stating that we give our husky LOTS of love and attention and for the most part she is very well disciplined. The problem is that every time my wife or I leave the house, and leave her in the hallway behind the baby gate, we return to find her "mess" scraped and scattered around. She is 1.5 years old and she is potty trained other than this problem... which we think she is doing on purpose. She hates the kennel, and we are currently in the process of " husky-proofing" our backyard , so for now the baby-gated hall is the only option we have to confine her while we're gone. Even if we are only gone for an hour and she's just gone outside and gone …

Took Molly & Codey to their puppy training class on Friday night which they love going to and the trainer is fantastic!! Codey loves her and she is really helping me with Molly. Anyway we were doing some puppy recalling and I had just had my turn with Molly. She had done the exercise perfectly so I was feeling on top of the world. I was walking back across the hall with her to grab some water and somehow I dropped her lead and she started to wonder over to her brother Codey before I could grab it. As she walked passed this chihuahua who hasn't been to the class before and it went for Molly. Molly panicked and tried to get back to me but her lead…

Theres probably something about begging on this site but I haven't been able to find it yet so... Gage is the WORST at begging for food. He won't really try too hard if it's just me eating because he knows I won't give him any, but anyone else around who is eating, beware...he will just follow you around and sit there and sniff the air in front of your plate. He wont ever take food from you or jump on counters or anything..he just sort of is all up in your face while you eat, and its irritating. He knows what NO means, and he knows what LEAVE IT means...but when it comes to food he like turns off his training knowledge. And its not…
