john and leesa
whenever kiya sees another dog all she does is bark and howl ,she is 5 months old and we want to get her out of this.she does not get aggressive just noisy.our next door neighbours have now got and got a lab puppy and when it is let out for the toilet all she does is run up and down the garden fence barking and howling at there dog.she does the same to every dog she meets, patch did do this for a short while but he is now 6 months old and has stopped.he is fine with the neighbours dog but does tend to chase kiya when she is barking as tho to tell her to be quiet.we are wondering if kiya will do the same or this will be a continous issue.she has always seen lots of dogs as she was growing up,this noiseyness is now a big problem with the neighbours getting a dog.we have spoken to the local dog club about training but all they do is obediance training but she already knows sit, stay ect so dont feel this would help her.does anyone have any advice on what we can do to stop her barking/howling at other dogs when she sees or meets them ? we meet a st bernand in the mornings on school runs and she is fine for the first couple of mins saying hello sniffing licking ect but then she starts barking and howling. we recently went to the elveden meet and she is fine with other huskies, does not bark or howl at all but if she sees any other breed of dog then she starts howling and barking
slaves to kaya
Cant help sorry, but just wanted to say your not alone. Spirit does this too with dogs he meets on walks. The problem is the owners are grabing their dog as quick as possible for fear of them being eaten LOL. I think its just over excitement, and noticed if he doesn't get to greet the dog before the others he goes nuts LOL
husky princess
same here, other owners think that storm is going to be aggressive and move away..which in turns makes him louder and jump around more! I would say the only way is to have a treat in your hand and bribe them !!

SarahNukka&Shadow
Obedience training might be more usful than you think if its a group class... its not just about teaching them the basics its also about building and keeping their concentration particularly with alot of other dogs around. Other than that I'd say teach her an attention command I use "look" but you can also use other words like "watch" its to gain their eye contact and get theri focus back on you then reward. This should help her to not be so excited by the on comming dog, but I would also surgest trying to get her to greet as many dogs as possible in a quite and calm mannor and rewarding whenever she does this with lots of praise or yummys, you have to mark behaviour you like quickly so thats what gets fixed and use you attention command to stop unwanted behaviour. Hope that all makes sence and helps you!
Removed #2
Jackson just nearly went through the front window when someone walked by with a dog. Andy is not a barker, but a talker. They are much noisier and naughtier inside than out....
BingBlaze n Skyla
when she barks and howls what do you do? i personally would remove her from said situation till she has calmed down and then praise her once she is calm then carry on - that way she should learn it gets her nowhere when she is being loud
