Well, that's one thing I didn't knew about pit bulls. This is a really interesting read. Astoundingly, for most of our history America’s nickname for Pit Bulls was “The Nanny Dogâ€Â. For generations if you had children and wanted to keep them safe you wanted a pit bull, the dog that was the most reliable of any breed with children or adults. The Nanny Dog is now vilified by a media that always wants a demon dog breed to frighten people and LHASA-APSO BITES MAN just doesn’t sell papers. Before pit bulls it was Rottweilers, before Rottweilers it was Dobermans, and before them German Shepherds. Each breed in it’s or…

Just thought I'd make a post about the two dogs I grew up with This is Pebbles, she's a labradore x (with what we don't know, the mother was a bit promiscuous! Feel free to have a guess ) and was already 2 years old when I was born: This is her with my dad (and our cat Muffy who unfortunately was only 8 months old when he was hit by a car): Pebbles was the softest dog I've ever known. In her whole life she didn't even so much as mouth or growl at me or my brother, she was perfect with children. My clearest memories of her are unfortunately towards the end of her life. She was pts at the age of 14 because her liver and kidneys …

Has anyone owned/know anyone who owned a pet fox? I have always loved them and I heard that if you bond with the fox when it's a baby they can be a great pet, it doesn't help that they're so cute! Obviously I wouldn't get one any time soon, wouldn't even consider it until I'm owning my own home but it doesn't help when they're a Fennec Fox breeder in the next town over but how cute is he/?!?!?! My GOD this bird does NOT shut up!!! I'm baby-sitting an african grey for the friends my family have gone on holiday with and he's a NOISY little git! Around the same time ever day (between 6pm and 9pm) he goes off on one and just screams and screams. I've finally managed to shut him up for a while by spraying him with water (not as a punishment before anyone worries - for him it was a shower and he's now quietly preening himself). I just know he's going to start up again though T_T So yeah...if you have neighbours, like watching tv or don't want your ears to be constantly ringing....don't get a large parrot!!! And if you must, only speak to it, don't ever enco…

Two weeks ago while I was walking Maverick in the yard at about midnight, we heard the most pathetic cat crying ever. Maverick was 10 weeks at the time. The cat is probably 2-3 weeks older. My girlfriend just had him neutered, and he has spent a couple of days in her house. Tonight is his first night in my house with my dog (my last dog killed numerous cats). So, I am crossing my fingers that things go well. The cat loves Maverick (always following him around on the leash). Do you think he is young enough to socialize him with cats? HOW? Any advice is appreciated. Especially, advice received in the next two hours before he gets here.

My dogs were having a fit so decided to see why ... Seems as if we had company out back ... These are really wild burros that roam around here. I've seen a couple of them before but never that many this close. Wonder if this is really what the dogs have been barking at late at night.

I have just figured out that one of my classmate lived just a few meters away from my house, so decided to pay a visit yesterday. She has a male chihuahua (or maybe chihuahua mix) called Chicco, and he has been neglected for these past 8 months =\ I almost shouted at her for crating a very active breed 24/7, but then I realize that she's just an inexperienced person that is willing to learn and there's still a chance of transforming Chicco from a "hyperactive neglected dog" to a "cute and calm well-cared for doggie" To make a long story short, I am currently trying to rehabilitate a neglected chihuahua (pics will be uploaded real soon. Info: he's light brown with a pair…

My moms dog was given to us by a close family friend some years back (haven't stopped to count, but she's around 8 or 9), never knew for sure what she's mixed with (his bitch was impregnated by an unknown neighborhood dog), only that she's part black lab. Anyone care to have a go at it? It's not terribly important, just something I've always wondered, lol (sorry about the pics, she doesnt like to hold still)

We have had him since he was a pup. Here's a little (or a lot) of background information. My mom was originally looking into getting a springer spaniel. But everyone told her they barked a lot and were a one person kind of dog. So she went into our local petshop and was looking at dogs, still set on a spaniel. The person in charge there talked her into getting Trinity. We brought him home and he was very high energy, but got along with our mutt pound dog that we had had for about 2 years. We had both of them for almost two years after that. Our pound mutt we got on christmas, so we had him for about 4 years. Two years after getting Trinity and them …

Heres Jackson! A maltipoo...poo....lol. My wifes dogs, got him today, 6 months old and already has a Napoleon complex. Picking fights with Navi and the cat. All day they have been running around the living room, I have to put navi in her crate to calm her down. Is it a bad idea to have a husky around a small dog or will they go after them like cats?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has got/ previously had ferrets? We are getting some in about 6 weeks (see pic below) and need some useful tips about keeping them, etc. I've googled info, but there is only so much you can take it the net. As we all know from being here for our husky's, it's better to get info from those who have had first hand experience. Thanks in advance.

This is Miley-Moo. Took her for somebody who had only had her a day. She was only 6 weeks old and so helpless. I was meant to find her a new home straight away as hubby said I couldn't keep her. However we did get attached and no home seemed good enough for her in our eyes. Eventually when she was 5 months old my friend's dad expressed how much he liked her and that he wanted a german shepherd. I left her with him on trial for 2 weeks. He spoiled her! Took her to the groomers twice for a pamper, Took her everywhere with him, even to work. Bought the best quality dog food he could get his hands on and hand built her a dog house in case she wanted to sit…

I realise most of you are all dog people but hey, KITTENS! Who can't resist pictures of cute kittens?! Had to work in the kitten room today. You have no idea how hard it is to continue, or even start cleaning a room full of kittens! They're either causing small tornadoes in the middle of the room by chasing each other around and around, or are trying to use jeans to climb to higher places. Still, they are awful cute When I sat down to take some photos of a kitten in front of me, this one started eating my shoes in the mean time. And within seconds there was another o…

Please ignore that my daughter feels the need to steal MY socks...The little baying bandit that I'm asking for help with is the tiny little thing pictured with her. Huskies are stubborn yes...that little Beagle right there though...darling Tinkerbell quite often makes my stubborn boy seem like the saint of all dogs... Since she came out of heat her baying has gotten worse...and I'm at a loss as to what to do or how to correct it. We've tried teaching her 'speak' and 'no speak' the end result...a pause in the baying and then she picks it back up until we physically remove her from the area. This is doable in the house, but when we take her on walks its insane…
