Hmmmm, took my boys out for a walk tonight with Marc, we were out for about 45 mins and then called into see my grandad on the way back, for a coffee and a chat. I don't normally take my boys there as he lives on his own with grandma passing and is in a bungalow. My boys were so scared!! I've never seen them like that before they both had their tales between their legs and were bouncing backwards when ever he tried to walk past them It took Kimba about 20 mins to settle down and even then he was still unsure. I sat next to my grandad and he came to me and was desperate for strokes.....as though he wanted reassuring ?? My grandad is such a lovel…

Having weighed Isis the other day she is know weighing in at 21kg (not sure what that is in lbs), but often look at her and think 'Omg she looks under weight'. Depending on how she is lieing/ sitting depends on wether or not you can feel her ribs. If you look at the pics below you may be able to make out what i mean about her looking skinny!

Hiya all:wave: Well we have just got back from a weekend away at the caravan with Leala & Luna and had a lovely time getting to learn lots more about Husky girl Luna.... apart from being an absolute darling xxxx 1) Don't let her offlead within 10 miles of a sheep as she can jump 6foot walls no problem and it hurts when we do it!! 2) She bites and cleans her own nails 3) She is a cat in a dog's skin - curling up, climbing, cleaning etc! It's not the norm for us (Mastiffs are big ploddy dopey sods that you have to do everything for and whom do as they are told...mostly) but we are very much enjoyi…

Havent been on in a while. Life with the new girl is great. She's pretty much perfect. Of course they all have their faults. I've noticed with Kiba, that she is VERY nervous around strange men. Any man she's never met before she rears her head back, ears up, butt down and does a wierd growly howl thing if they get close. All the men in my family she loves, but the first time she met them, she did the same thing. Especially with my Dad who is 6 ft and deep voiced and not overly flambouyoant when meeting a dog. She's never snapped, but i'm afraid she might if a strange man approached her hands outstretch too quickly. M…

having never looked on the internet before for a Husky (our 2 were from a breeder recommended) we were shocked at the number for sale. Its very sad. My mum couldn't bear to look anymore as they were all be sold for various excuses, new job, new baby blah blah blah. Anyway.. as I have been looking regularly on pets 4 homes.. one in particular has been on their week in week out for the past 6 months in Wisbech Cambs.. different litters every couple of weeks or so.. So I suspected puppy farming. We live in Notts and next week are having a 26 week old from a young couple locally who adore him and feel bad for leaving him home alone all day. After chatting to the current own…

Okay, the wife returned home from work today (1.5 hours), to find that Isis had eaten about 2 drops of wall paper as far up as she could reach. You can imagine the phone call i recieved! Well on the way home I went and called in to our local pet store and bought a Large Dog Cage - heres the problem - Beauty (My GSD) loves it and wont come out of it - she's never been trained to go in one but loves it! Isis on the other hand wont go anywhere near it - if she's going past it she darts past it as quickly as she can. I got her to go near it with treats, but her ears were back and she appeared petrified of it. Any ideas on how to get her to be comfortable…

as you may have read, we are setting out on the road of adopting a husky. We are waiting on a home visit from RSPCA & am waiting for SHWA to get in touch with the same. In the meantime, I am thinking ahead about when our new pack member joins us. We have had Myshka since she was 10 weeks, she is now nearly 4yrs. What would be the best way to behave / treat both dogs when the newbie arrives? Obviously they will have met often before hand & been introduced that way but I suppose it's a different ball game when he is here for good. I don't want Myshka to feel pushed out but I would want the newbie to feel safe & settle quickly. Or…

We all have different opioins when it comes to a dogs intelligence so I thought it would be interesting to find out what everyone thinks For me, an intelligent dog is one who: Can think for themselves Wants to be a part of a pack and is happy with their place in the pack Can test the owners skills to the absolute max Strong minded / shows determination to get what or where they want Knows the meaning of pack love Understands who their pack leader is Can follow what they have been told Knows what play time is Shows various behaviours related to their ancestors (i.e. for us sibe owners would be the wolf) In…

So as I mentioned in my intro thread, I will be getting a husky pup soon. Now I currently have two cats, but I'm not too concerned about them. However, also in the next few months, my girlfriend and I are planning on buying a house. Now with that, my girlfriend has a chihuahua who will be a little over a year old by then and I would really like my dog to not eat her. Now, I will have help with training from my sister-in-law who has 3 german shepherds, a chocolate lab and an Australian cattle dog who also teaches puppy classes. Plus all my friends have dogs and neighbor has a husky/malamute mix. So I should have plenty of socialization for him, bu…

Hi Everyone I have two huskies and one of them is very helathy and not having any problems with him My other one is epileptic and has cluster fits about once a month although his last set of fits were 17 days since his previous lot. We are very worried as our insurance has nearly run out for this condition and will soon be spending out on his medication and blood levels and other treatment. The specialist wanted to add yet another medication and it just so happened that i saw a magnetic dog collar for epileptic dogs on the internet and thought i would give this a try before spending out on more treatment. I just wondered if anyone had heard of this and if so hav…

Product: Cardboard Box Rating: 4 Star Entertainment factor: 7 out of 10 For this review I will be talking about the new toy that we aquired for our husky yesterday. This product is quite simple but innovative and is made usually from recycled paper. Our husky seemed to be quite satisfied with the product, however this was found to be short lived. This brings me to one of the problems with the product in that it has a short lifespan and comes with very little (none) guarentee at all. One of the bonuses of this product is the multiplication. You only need to aquire one of these fantastic products and magically …

Product: Wallpaper Rating: 3 Star Entertainment factor: 8 out of 10 Although I have not had much experience with this product, I felt it only right that I post a review on behalf of the members who's experiences I have read in this area who do have the knowledge and expertese that have been passed on in their posts. The Wallpaper, or as it is more commonly known to our huskies the "Mother of all chews" is deeply desired by a select few of the huskies in our world. Containing nautural elements from tree's it has been known to be good for the digestive tract, however please be carefull upon purchase as with all doggie …

http://www.kurgo.com/products/wp.html Hey All! Was at the pet shop today and picked up a new Kurgo Wander Pack. It's a fully adjustable harness, fitting dogs from 30 to 80lbs. It has a D ring at the back of the harness to clip a leash into, and is slip proof, which I'm pretty excited about because Finn has been slipping collars a lot as of late. So far it seems pretty sturdy. It will hold a water bottle on each side with room to spare, and wold easily hold collapsible food and water dishes, with kibble etc, or a first aid kit for longer treks. You can move the "saddle bags" up and down as your dog grows so that they stay in a…

As you now know i'm very new to Husky behaviour and have no idea what is typical so just a couple of questions to start me off... Do any of your Huskie's do a random - totallly non agressive - growl when having a fuss?? A ridgeback we fostered used to do this too, lol. Also do any of them - females - cock one leg after another in a sort of slow funny walk thing whilst peeing??? it's very funny to watch as she looks like she doing the sumo dance at the start of a fight:D

huskies pull, its in their nature to pull, they have been bred for it, but there are times when it is akward, and you would like to have some control, some people use haltis, we tried it, the first one saskia destroyed in the shop (luckily we didnt have to pay for it) the second one lasted for a week. then we saw someone with a 42kg mastiff , using a lupi control harness, we asked to try it on, and wow what a difference it made. saskia walks lovely and even when she pulls full pelt (when she sees a cat) she is more than controllable. in fact we got two of them, one for micha also, but we met someone down the park with another mastif that just pulls and pull…

Eventually we would love to get Isis into Bikejoring - not at a competition level as she isnt KC reg, but just as a way to keep her fit and provide her with a quality of life that she needs as a working breed - and I have a few questions which hopefully someone can answer: 1. At what age should we consider attaching Isis to a bike? She's currently 9 moths old and is taken for a short run daily (10 mins) with me running along behind her as she is much faster than me. 2. We live within 5 mins of the local canal - which as of lately have become very clean - I know I need a permit, but would I approach the local council or the British Waterways? The only…

Had an 'ask' about our working harnesses and figured rather than a PM, I would post for everyones benefit. We use Manmat x-back harnesses. They are not 'made to measure', just come in standard sizes, but that said, we have not had any problems in finding one to fit any of our dogs amongst the standard sizes. They wear and wash very well. Our originals are going strong after 3 years and been though plenty of 40 degree washes. The price for Manmats varies amongst UK suppliers though. Anything between 14 (SSHC) and silly money (25 fom one seller!!) also hit and miss if you can get the colour you want in the size you want.....So we order ours direct from…
