Working harnesses

Had an 'ask' about our working harnesses and figured rather than a PM, I would post for everyones benefit.

We use Manmat x-back harnesses. They are not 'made to measure', just come in standard sizes, but that said, we have not had any problems in finding one to fit any of our dogs amongst the standard sizes. They wear and wash very well. Our originals are going strong after 3 years and been though plenty of 40 degree washes.

The price for Manmats varies amongst UK suppliers though. Anything between 14 (SSHC) and silly money (25 fom one seller!!) also hit and miss if you can get the colour you want in the size you want.....So we order ours direct from Manmat themselves, in the Czech republic:

Ordered our last ones about 3 months ago, and worked out at about 12 each including shipping. Arrived in a week and paid by paypal. Worth considering a 'direct' order, though bear in mind we ordered 8 harnesses and a new batch of leads, so shipping cost comparably less and worked out cheaper than buying in UK, so may be worth getting together to order to save on shipping. They also do harnesses suited for walking on, and the 'Merhi' harnesses are good for bikes, scooters and cani-x (we have a couple of those if anyone wants to take a look)

I agree with Lyn - Manmat Harnesses are excellent and, like Lyn, we've never had a problem with using the standard sizes (which saves all the fiddling about with measurements which are so easy to get wrong:confused:).

Roughy speaking on sizes:

All our girls are in mediums

Our smallest boy is a medium

Our two average boys are in large

Our 'heavy-built' boy is in an XL.

Bigger built girls may be a large (Andy and Sammi's girl is a bigger built girl)

We usually find when we start training youngsters that most of the girls start out in smalls and the young lads in mediums. Then they grow into the next size up at about a year old (a lot of ours have a growth spurt at about 11 months).

We have all sizes between small and XL in the van, so if anyones around and wants to try them for size, your more than welcome:cool:
