does anyone have more than 1 female husky? the lady at battersea dogs home said 2 bitches was a bad idea as females tend to be rougher than men. now saskia has settled in there have been a few fights for dominance, will this continue? micha has been spayed, but saskia has not yet. when she is spayed will it stop her trying to dominate strangers dogs as well. or is it just her. has anyone else had dominance problems with their husky trying to dominate other dogs, and how did you get round it. saskia is 3 1/2 years old, and never properly socialised, and isnt following michas example. micha aproaches other dogs slowly, and al…

I collected this lad yesterday, he was in a pound for a week, unclaimed. He hasn't been to the vet yet, but I think he's only young, but not a real baby, probably about 7/8 months old. He is definitely a sibe cross, but what with? Its his ears that are confusing me, sometimes they both stand up, sometimes one stands up, sometimes both of them flop down. He's a lovely boy, an incredible escape artist, he managed to get out of a crate in the fosterers house, but it was still locked when she walked into the room to find him! He's climbed out of one of my kennel pens, no problem at all. He's fairly tall, I think he looks quite lanky, but then he's very skinny,…

Hi all I am due to go on holiday for 2 weeks in October. We have not put Asha in boarding kennels yet as have been lucky enough to have family come and stay at our house while we have been away, so Asha has been well looked after. Unfortunately we are all going away as a family so need to put Asha into boarding, along with my mum's lab. The place my mum uses is not available as the lady is going away herself. Does anyone know of any good kennels/boarding in Kent? Thanks

Ok from the start - for the past few days Ive been finding it VERY hard to relax and constantly needing to move  and its really bugging me now, so hoping that it may help I decided to take the boys for a long run instead of a walk today hoping that that may tire me out enough to be able to realx! Ran for about 3 miles with Gizmo this morning and all went well, couldn't have asked Gizmo to be any better - I think he is nearly ready to start working in the harness! Went out this evening and ran Marley and Bandit together, luckily I was not pulled over this time lol, for about 3 miles again. I started to run and off they go and Marley must have fo…

well today micha and saskia had a bath. my wife took them out for a run along the canal. they came back had some food, then the fun began. micha was first up, she was not happy, she whined a little and tried to escape. i felt so mean but she smelt so bad she needed it. saskia was easier, she didnt enjoy it, but she tollerated it the bathroom is soaked, i am soaked, so is my wife and my side of the bed, why my side, well we got micha out and she jumed up onto the bed and layed down on my side and burrowed her head under the pillows, poor little thing. we gave her some treats, and as soon as we had saskia out and dry they ran around like nutters.…

Any tips for how to make it a positive experience for both of us? The husky I had as a child was a nightmare to bathe, so I'm trying very, very hard to forget all about that before I get Gambit in the shower. I'm also bathing another member of the pack first, who, if she's not crazy about baths, at least just stands there and deals with it while giving us "what-on-earth-did-i-do-to-deserve-this-don't-you-love-me?" looks. Should I have him in the bathroom while I bathe her, to maybe let him see that its not so bad, or will that only make him nervous? I had hoped, before I brought him home, to bribe him with treats, but since he just spits them out that won't work. Shou…

I thought I would share with you guys this curious behavior Maya developed last month and see if you have seen it For awhile now, whenever we give Maya treats (those teeth cleaning bones) - she will no longer eat them right away she will slow slink away as if hiding or trying to "blend in" and she will stand in a corner until no one is looking at her, then she will walk around the house with her head low to the ground and place her treat in some kind of hard to find place like in the couch cushions, in my daughters toy box, or even behind the toilet! (gross!) I suppose this is part of the instincts that develop as they get older, because we have no o…

Odd q but Alaska started cockong her leg when Balto came, she even peed in the house >> she would play-fight and then she would pee near him:eek: And then in the garden she squats like a girl, but whilst squating she will lift one leg ... i will try and get a picture but here is what she looks like the most: When Balto came she used to pee everywhere he did but shes stopped now as their pack orders have been established. But she still lifts her up her leg, just wanted to know if any other female husky owners have had this with their girl? I'll try and get a pic soon....its kinda funny lol

I just received a book I ordered today. Title is "The Siberian Husky: Able Athelete, Able Friend" by Michael Jennings. I'm still reading it, but so far, it is one of the best books on the breed that I've had the opportunity to read. It goes into quite a bit on the background and early years of the Siberian Husky in Alaska and North America, as well as some of the early breeders, as well as the Standard for the breed. It's written in an easy-to-read style and provides a wealth of information on characteristics, temperment, makeup, care, health, training, living, and loving of Siberian Huskies. The book also discusses showing and racing. There are loads of photos insi…

My mother lives a long way from me and she is 79 and knows nothing about huskies and laska was a surprise present so i didnt have a chance to ask any questions from the breeders. We have no contact numbers to ask the breeders any questions and mother lost it. So im wondering with her wieght could she be a husky cr…

This may just be me being paranoid but I think Bandit is showing signs of possible fearful behaviour which I am guessing could be because of the amount of time my poor baby has been attacked by other dogs!! When I take him and marley out on a walk Bandit seems to have started to weave alot from one side of the path to the other. Everytime he does go from one side to the other side he will always smell the ground and then he will cross to the other side and sniff there and he does this thought the whole walk nearly. I have heard that sometimes having them walk on just a lead and collar can sometimes cause them weave so I'm not sure if Bandit's weaving…

This is how i actually came across this site. I was hunting on the internet 4 some answers 4 Kaili's problem. She is 8 mnths old and has always loved her walks from a 8 week old pup. Bout a month or so ago she became very nervous especially when she saw or heard a truck. I read up that something must of happened and I know it makes sense, but 4 the life of me i don't know what. There's someone at home 80% of the time and i do realize we cant be with them all the time, so something could have scared her when we werent there. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this and what can i do 2 help her. We still take her out with Skylah every day 4 walks, but the minu…

This is the longest-lasting soft toy we've ever had. I have the Hard Core Fire Hose Large Squeak n' Fetch, and the guys love it. The fire-hose material is TOUGH, and the ends are sealed with TOUGH nylon. It has an internal squeaker, but it is very faint -- the dogs can hear it, but it won't drive you screaming from the room. They'll even lounge around and chew on it and still have not been able to chew throught it. Dakota and Nikita highly recommend it! http://kyjen.com/products/category/dog-toys/dt-firehoses/

Hi all I have a question... My little girl is 8 months now and she has alrdy killed the rabbit and she tries to bite anything thats smaller then her. im aware that anything smaller then a husky is normally fair game so they say as they are hunting dogs in the wild. But yesterday she had a bite at my mothers small yorky terrier. i give her a good tellinf off for doing it but she seem obsessed and will do anything to get to him if she see's him. Is this something she will grow out of . is it just because she wants to play in a puppy style and just gets over excited. Thanks in advance

So, when I pick up my husky Thursday, our first activity together will be the four hour drive home. Great introduction, eh? The husky we had when I was younger was mostly before I could drive, so I'm not really sure how to prepare for this. Since I'll be picking him up at the shelter, our opportunities to walk before getting in the car will probably be limited. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make this journey easier? I could conceivably put a kennel in the backseat, but I'd rather not have his first few hours with me be spent in another cage, and I kind of thought that maybe the backseat would prepare him for the other dogs he'll be meeting, since it is unfor…
