Snatching??

Anyone got any ideas on how to stop them snatching food from you? When I'm training Kaiser, eg SIT. He does it first time but as soon as i lower my hand to give him a treat, he jumps up my fingers end up in his mouth and his needles for teeth always seem to get me - it's as though he's absolutely DESPERATE to get the treat. I've spent a lot of time at each training session to try and stop this but don't know what to do about it to be honest! I have tried moving my hand away before he gets it and telling him to wait before he comes to take the food but even doing this, he still snatches it. Any ideas greatly appreciated!! :banghead:

Apart from you of course...who's the alpha (if you have more than 1 dog) with my two we got alaska first so she was more dominant in her own home, and to this day she still is. They had 3 weeks of fighting to figure it out (and i was told to let them ride it out until they got the packing order but then to stop all fighting afterwards) and alasak won about 95% of fighting , she would gowl at her food, steal his toys and treats...attack him at any given chance and poor balts would just give in:confused: but now theres some equality >> balto can keep his treats (lol:rolleyes:) and he doesn't get attacked, but she will growl and snap at him still if he come…

As most of you know I was having problems with growing at other dogs and was trying to find a behaviourist. The other day I found a new area just up the road, I had been walking straight past it all this time thinking it was someones property - what a t*at! Anyway HadTuesday off work and so took Gizmo there and then Marley and Bandit. Bearing in mind I hadn't managed to decide which behaviourist yet. There were hundreds of dogs around which were great! The first dog we met I did what I usually did and suprise suprise Gizmo growled at the other dog. They lady walking the other dog mentioned they had a similar problem with her dog (Bichon Frise -…

Interested to hear views on leads against harnesses. Obviously a harness puts less strain on a dogs neck if he pulls a bit when walking on the lead but equally surely affords him the opportunity to pull even more without becoming even slightly uncomfortable. I tend to walk Blizzy on the lead rather than his harness and find it much easier as he walks just fine on the lead. I plan to have him doing weight pulss when he's old enough so he'll obviously be wearing a harness then so I don't want to confuse him by it sometimes being OK to pull when wearing a harness etc etc. Any thoughts or comments????

Do you think there is a lot of difference between boy and girl Huskies (except the obvious) and if so what?? Or is the dogs "personality" which makes more difference to how they react to training and other things etc?

Have any of you had any issues trying to brush your baby?? Eika is a pain in the bum, she will bite your hand, bite the brush roll over run away etc etc!!! Does anyone else have this? and is it just a puppy thing? The other night i held a treat in my hand for her to nibble on whilst i brushed her and that did help...so i think i may need to do that, but she still wanted to sit and roll over to eat it!

My family got a beautiful 8 week old Siberian Husky puppy yesterday and I'm in need of some help. She seems to have a grasp of needing to go outside to pee and poop but she's used to being able to go outside at her own will. Therefore, she's always whining at the door to go out, but only 1/3 of the time does she actually relieve herself. We are trying to crate train her. It seemed great yesterday as she was voluntarily going in and napping. And then at night I took her out, she peed and pooped, and then I brought her in and put her in the crate to sleep. After about an hour she started howling bloody murder and I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't wan…

I thought for awhile that clicker training was just this new fad thing that came out quick and would die out quick...but I dont think that anymore...LOL! If you have a husky like chewie who has issues with authority...lol...and responds very quickly to sound prompts...you are going to love clickers! After one 10 minute session...all I have to do is pick it up...and he sits down! He could sit and lay down on command already- he just decided to be rotten and not do it...lol. I spent $40.00 on clicker stuff...and it is the best thing for chewie. to me the positive reaction and will to have good manners without me giving the command…

The thread on dog toys reminded me to ask... anyone have this http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753808 for your husky? I'm thinking about getting it and giving him about 1/2 - 1/4 of his dinner in it b/c he's always going crazy wanting to play at night when I'm ready to get to bed. Think it would help/work? Wondering if anyone else had tried one of these.. they had a larger version in the store...

Juno doesn't seem to be putting on a lot of weight. He is drinking loads and loads of water and running for the newspaper to start it all over again. In 15 minutes he drank a whole bowl of water and had 3 wees! It's been going on for a least 2 weeks now. He seems happy and energetic despite being hungry all the time. My other half thinks he might have diabetes? Seems to add up so he is off to the vet Saturday.

Believe it or not, a bale of hay! Someone told us to toss a couple of bales of hay out into the yard and watch the fun! They go nuts! Quinn tries to hide in and under the hay, Mukki likes to sit n top of a few bales and Lulu and Tala rip them apart! If we take the twine out, they are destroyed in a few hours, they last a few days if we leave them tied. They all want to sleep in the piles of hay. They have shredded and eaten literally hundreds of dollars in toys, but they never enjoyed anything like the do the hay! And they smell like sweet hay and the yard gets a nice hay layer, much appreciated in the rain -no mud! I'm going t…

as mentioned in a previous thread I thought I should pop this on here for some advice. This morning when I was walking Gizmo I was stopped by a lady with her dog (mixed breed, looked like a lab mix but not 100% sure). I think I may have done wrong by holding Gizmo back, which I usually do otherwise he will lunge towards other dogs which always worries me about other dogs attaking him. It may have been my fault, but when Gizmo met the other dog he growled. Could he have been growling at me as if to say "it will be ok, let me say hello" or would he actually be growling at the other dog? Im worried that he may becoming aggressive, and if he is I need t…

A child in my class at work has a husky as a pet which she always goes on about now that she knows i have Isis. Well today she came into work and was a little upset as her husky has gone of its food - apparently her dad decided to do some research and found out that huskie's dont eat dog food at all (which i know is wrong cause some of us feed kibble/ dry food right!), and has obviously made a big issue about this infront of the kid. Well she was going on and on about it and was obviously getting upset over it. Her dog is 1 year old - as ive only had Isis for a few months - Any suggestions as to what i should do? It doesnt really fall into…
