davidjk
does anyone have more than 1 female husky? the lady at battersea dogs home said 2 bitches was a bad idea as females tend to be rougher than men. now saskia has settled in there have been a few fights for dominance, will this continue? micha has been spayed, but saskia has not yet. when she is spayed will it stop her trying to dominate strangers dogs as well. or is it just her. has anyone else had dominance problems with their husky trying to dominate other dogs, and how did you get round it. saskia is 3 1/2 years old, and never properly socialised, and isnt following michas example. micha aproaches other dogs slowly, and allows herself to be sniffed, saskia just barrels in, the other dog usually gets defensive, which ends up with saskia trying to dominate them. we are keeping her on the lead at the park at the moment and introducing her slowly to other dogs. its the nervous and small yappy ones inparticular. thanks david
ISDW
I have 5 bitches here and they generally get on well with each other. Nannuq, who's a GSD/Mal cross (we think!) tends to start a bit of trouble with Sky (sibe) sometimes, but then always comes off worse. However, its not just females that she has a problem with, she will also try and pick on Max, a smaller dog. We did used to have a Malamute bitch, but she did used to fight with Nannuq and Sky all the time.
Alex T
Isis (our Sibe) tends to get on well with our GSD bitch until they have a bone each, and then she tends to think they are both hers and takes our GSD's away. But apart from that we have no problems th 2 bitches!
raindog
We've got 12 Siberians, a Shiba Inu and a Leonberger. Of these, 6 are unspeyed bitches and 6 un-neutered dogs. We have very few problems between the dogs and/or bitches. At any one time, we usually also have one or two fosters in for assessing, therapy and/or neutering. Our dogs are brilliant at accepting these new (temporary) dogs into the pack with little tension. I think it largely depends on how you - the owner, handles the situation. If the dogs are in no doubt that you make the pack rules, they will be relaxed enough to follow your lead. Mick

Sonic_Sibe
Oh dear yet another utter crap policy from Battersea. Although I must say, it's funny most of their ad campaigns have had Huskies in them, I suppose they do tend to draw in the crowds. Hmmm, I want to rehome a Husky.............sorry you aren't suitable for a Husky, but how about a nice Staff or Jack Russell?

PeiperSky7
David, Peiper & Sky are both females,Peiper came to us as a pup & Sky joined us as a two year old last Xmas,Peiper will be 6 in September,Sky will be three in October. When we introduced Sky we started with a long tiring walk and let he have a "sniffathon" around the house garden etc.Peiper was excited at first, cooled after she realised Sky was bundle of energy, and showed her teeth if Sky got in her face once too often... They have a natural Pack/Pecking order process,it has swung between the two of them, and aside from a short time when I did "gesture eating" ( sticking a biscuit behind their bowls before I fed them,to show I ate first & they followed) there have been no major incidents. To use a football term,we have "handbags" now and then, but nothing serious, the odd squabble over a bone etc. Last month Sky was feeling poorly and was not her usual self roaring round the house - she slipped from No.1 for a couple of weeks,as soon as she felt better she asserted her No.1 position and knocked Peiper out of the way on a few occasions to make the point. I find that for 99.9% of the time they are best buddies, they walk in tandem, sleep close or next to each other, and are a real team - on a recent walk a dog growled at Sky and Peiper steamed in like a big sister ! From my experience, two female huskies together are not a problem - If anything,Sky reminded Peiper of what it was to play with toys etc and Peiper's influence on Sky is clear and very calming.... Let me know if there is anything else one two females I can help with ? Best Always, Kevin & The Girls :bullseye:
