So since we've had Cypra we have been training her to be "allowed" to go up on the furnature. Well today it totally backfired. Kai was up on the couch with me and Cypra came over and wanted up to, so I figured why not. I let her up on the couch and she INSTANTLY went after Kai to get him off the couch. (this is MY couch, GET OFF). So he jumped off after a small tiff between them but I yelled at her to get off too. She did. I figured ok, no big deal, right? Just like normal, she gets off when we tell her too. Well I took Kai outside and when I came back inside, Cypra was on the couch, so I told her to get off. What was different about this time is that she refused to get o…

This is driving me crazy. My husky pup only eats about 1 cup a day MAYBE sometimes 1.5 cups for the whole day. This is after walks and going running with him. He is 13 weeks old and weighs about 12lbs. I had taken him to the vet almost two weeks ago and we found out he had tapeworm AND coccidia. He has been having diarrhea fairly often since we got him (for 5 weeks!). He is nearly done with his meds for the worm and coc., but he still has runny pudding stools. His coat is becoming very dull. The vet doesn't think too much of it, but I don't think he has much experience with sibes. I have changed his food twice and now he is on Artemis Med/Larg…

Heywood Veterinary Centre Heywood, Lancs Staff are fantastic, all loving and caring, there are 2 vets based permanently here, one i used to work with and have first hand knowledge of how the animals uner her care are treated. I wouldn't have any second thoughts about leaving Kimba or Kaiser there for any form of treatment. They also have a Pet Ambulance that can come out in emergencies.

Simple question really I guess. When do you prefer to walk your dog. I dont mean just in the morning ot, at night but what kind of temperature do you prefer to walk in. Personally I'd preferably like to walk in dry and warm temps constantly. In fact if I lived it that kind of climate I probably wouldnt have time to post LOL. I hate the cold and miserable weather, however I know some people would rather walk when its cold.

Gotta admit I have found our pet insurance to come in very handy with kimba especially due to him having a tendancy to eat womens tights. We are currently insured with 'more than' who we've found to offer a good service at a good price for both Kimba and our cat. So who do you insure with?

Dog Massage

Deep massage on dogs requires knowledge of anatomy and should be performed only by a trained and certified practitioner but there's no reason you can't give your pet a light, relaxing rubdown right at home. Have your dog lie on a soft, firm surface such as a rug, although very small dogs can be done sitting or crouching on your lap. Start with several soft, slow strokes from head to tail. When your dog begins to relax, scratch gently behind the ears, moving to the cheeks, under the chin, over the nose, between the eyes and over the head. Rub each ear several times between your thumb and forefinger, working from base to tip. Using three fingers, move …

What a great way to share how Kai is doing! I will try my best to update this as often as possible! I will start with this past week just to catch people up... Week 1: I started to muzzle train Kai after our "bite" incident because I wanted to prevent something like that from happening again. (I also worry about the kids in the neighborhood!) Anyways, I bought him a softie muzzle (one that goes directly over his nose and mouth so he has no way of biting) and we have started with little training. I wasn't sure how to go about training him, so I did some research online. We started with getting him adjusted to the muzzle (I put treats near/on/in it fo…

Tonight something happened that has never happened before between Cypra and Kai. I was cooking dinner and the dogs came into the kitchen to see what I was doing and once they realized I was cooking, they both stepped closer to me to see if they could get any. Well Cypra beat Kai to being the closest to me and when she put her head next to my leg he turned around and bit her in the face, thinking I was going to give her food and not him. He has NEVER done such a thing before!! He didn't hurt her bad, but his tooth did scrape the corner of her eye (where the eye boogers usually collect) and she was bleeding slightly. I yelled at him really loud "NO KAI!" and pointed away fr…

Hi all, New to this forum as I'm reaching out for some help as to how to proceed with one sick Husky. Ajax is an almost-6 year old Husky, black and white, with a rather accident-prone history (broke his leg badly as a pup) but otherwise generally healthy. He was a bit overweight in the past couple years, but as I'll tell you, that's no longer a problem. Brief history... In June, he had a bad episode of vomitting, diarrhea and lethargy that lasted a few days. He got better, but then went immediately back into another spell of the same. Since then, he's lost weight dramatically, his apetite has gotten selective to the point of anorexia, and he gets s…

hey i know i posted a while back about kira's crazy jumping about when she meets another dog but i have a few updates and questions.... when i took her to the beach with Angel, my friends golden retriever she was a little star, she had about 10-11 ft of lead and she did run up to other dogs but just sniffed/touched noses with them and came back to me when i said :ran_biggrin: obviously much better than when shes at home... now do you reckon its because she had more freedom or because of being with another dog at the time anyway?? i cant give her that much lead at home when on the path because she just walks out into the the road :scared: (i tried th…

Hello, My partner Claire is a member on here so I thought I should sign up as well. We recently got our husky (willow) and an looking for some advice on crate training. When left in the crate for a long period of time, overnight or when at work more often than not the cage turns into an absolute mess, i'm sure you can imagine the scene, which is odd as we have tried to make sure it goes toilet outside before it goes into its crate. We do have some puppy pads in the house, but have so far not managed to grab it before the event happens. Just after some advice on how to stop the dog fouling in the crate really, I apre…

At what age should a husky puppy start losing puppy teeth and what do the missing teeth look like? It looks like Kahtadin lost 2, he has an empty tooth socket and one of his fangs is missing (but no empty hole for that one). Either he was playing/chewing rough and broke them/pulled them out, or he's starting to lose his puppy teeth! We noticed when we saw bood on Haley's face, we thought maybe he niped her a little hard while playing. But when we checked her, there were no cuts. So we throught maybe Kahtadin nicked his gums or something on Haley's teeth - we opened his mouth and discovered the two missing teeth. He is eating fine and not showing any signs that his t…

Hi, newbie on the forum. We have 2 sibes, bith 20 months give or take a week, since we've had both of them we have fed a mix of complete dog food, Superdog Puppy, now Active, and Pedigree Chum meat. We have recently changed their diets now as they just don't ever seem to want to eat, especially in the mornings so we now feed Davies Ranger complete with a tin of either tuna or sardines in tomato ketchup or oil. They absolutely love this adnd its so good to see them enjoying their food, I just wonder if there are any long term effects that could occur due to the protein intake from the fish? What do you guys feed yours also, just curious? Than…

With winter coming, I'm a bit concerned about Bo managing to get down two snowy and perhaps icy steps to the yard to do his business. Last winter I put a rug down so he felt more secure and didn't get anxious about slipping. Well, he hasn't gotten any younger and to be honest, I'm a bit worried about him and steps this winter. Do you think I should go as far as building a ramp for him? I'd like to hear your ideas....

First of all, thanks to everyone who helped me last night, I really appreciate the advice and support!! So I was up on and off with Cypra last night. She would get up, drink little bits of water, then go back to sleep. At one point she got up and started coughing like a smoker. It sounded like when Kai had the doggy flu/kennel cough a few weeks ago. (all the dogs in my neighborhood got sick so it was being spread around). Only thing was when she coughed, there was nothing to come up. This morning she is MUCH better, still coughing off and on, but not as hard as last night. I am thinking maybe this was her way of saying "mom, I am sick!". her drooling stopped, …

Halloween is traditionally full of candy, costumes and trick-or-treating for children and their families, but many people are unaware of the potential dangers pets face throughout the month of October. While many people like to include their pets in the festivities, Halloween is one holiday that can threaten the safety, and possibly life, of family friends. From ingesting toxic food, candy wrappers or decorations, being traumatized by sudden noises, to exposure or harmful pranks, owners are encouraged to be aware of how their pets' safety could be at risk. "Candy, especially chocolate, can be most harmful for dogs," said Todd Tams, DVM, DACVIM, Vice …
