Poor Kahtadin. We took the dogs to the dog park this morning to tire them out before we had to cook Thanksgiving dinner. They were having a great time, racing around the park and playing. I was watching Haley since she plays rough and can get barkey with the other dogs when she wants them to chase her. Kahtadin was by the water dish and Jay and I were both watching Haley play when we hear Kahtadin yelp. We turn to look at him and another dog he was playing with had knocked him down. He always throws a fit when he's knocked over (he's a drama queen) so Jay went to get him and make sure he was fine. And we realized he was limping - another dog owner said he had been …

I have never had 2 huskies at once before so Im thinking strategically about how I want everything arranged at night when we go to bed. Here are the two options I was thinking of. (1) I want to be rid of this big ugly metal crate Ive got so I was thinking of getting 2 plastic crates for them to sleep in. The breeder says solo is potty trained and has never been crated befoore, so I was thinking maybe Ill just skip the crates and go with option 2. (2) make the dining room which is where the current crate and kid/dog area is now, into a nighttime room for chewy and solo and put up pressure gates and buy some dog cushions they can sleep on. …

i'v been working on lead manners with kira, teaching her heel and leave/drop and shes been doing so well!!! i taught her heel position at home in about 10 minutes, i just had to say heel and she'd stand next to me with her head level or behind me! then i took her out with a pocket full of treats and whenever i told her to heel she got into position, we'd walk for a minute with me just constantly saying 'good girl... good heel' etc, then i'd treat her. now shes starting to heel automatically! shes doing really good on 'down' aswell, she already knew it but would only do it with me tapping the floor with the treat, now she does it to just the command…

Stroking a dog can help patients halve the amount of painkillers they take, claim researchers. The effect of pet power is well understood by their owners, but now a new study says dogs should be available for patting in every hospital. It found patients who spent time with a four-legged friend while recovering from joint replacement operations needed 50 per cent less medication. Having a dog to pet was thought to be good for their 'emotional and physical well being'. Julia Havey, who led the research at Loyola University of Chicago, said pet therapy could play an important part in healing. She said: …

About 10 days ago we add 2 husky males of 2.5 and 3 years to our family. We used to have 6 Alaskan huskys until all died of old age exept one who's now 12. This time we took Siberian huskys but the older male is verry affraid of me. I've never done any harm to no any dog ever and the previous owner could tell us that no traumatic experience has happened to this dog. (wich I don't believe though.) She said it all just started when he was 6 months old, however his half brother who is younger is totally normal in behaving and behaves rather the opposite. I've been observing saarlooswolfhounds a lot when I was younger and many of these dogs share the same…

We took Noushka to the vets again as we were getting really concerned about her back legs. She struggles on walks up and down hills now so I have to stay on the flat, when we saw the vet though he put our minds at rest (thank goodness) checked her over, pulled her legs, she tried to bite him and said she's "still sparkly enough for me" . So with more Metacam and now also Tramadol (which are having a great effect) she is almost blooming sprinting along...

At what age do male dogs start marking territory? Kahtadin is reaching 5 months old now, and tonight he's peed in the hous four times! He hasn't done this in weeks, since he's started learning to go outside he has been going to the door and sitting there when he needs to go. But tonight, he's gone into the dining room and peed either on the carpet or by the table! No going to the door, no signal that he needs to go out, nothing! Jay told him "NO!" each time he was caught peeing inside and immediately took him out, he still gets praised for going outside, just like when he was potty trained. Any ideas or advice on this? Could it just be a phase or maybe (hopefully)…

I'm guessing 4-6 months? I def plan on getting Kaien neutered when he gets old enough since I dont plan on breeding or anything. Plus from what I hear, it reduces his need to mark.

when i feed nukka and nalla they eat way too fast and its like they arent even digesting all of the food. its not like im starving them either. they get fed 5 different times a day and the right amount. but each time i feed them they act as if ive never fed them in a week. i dont want them to get bloated from swallowing air or nothing like that. ive tried putting a huge rock in their food dishes and having them eat around it but that doesnt work. they still scarf it down and dont even chew their food. and when one gets done with their food then they go running to each others food dishes like they are seeing if theres anymore. im feeding them the r…

I've heard that putting a backpack on your husky during walks is a great thing because it gives him a "job" to do, and it also helps to tire them out faster. Has anyone here tried this? What's your experience been, and is there any particular brand that you'd recommend? I'm thinking about trying this, but I'd want one that's reasonably priced (since I'd have to buy 2) and also very comfortable for my dog to wear. Any thoughts?

Hey guys, Kita just went to the vet for her nonstop coughing, runny nose, lethargy, and lack of appetite. It seems she has an Upper Respiratory Infection. She's on two weeks of meds twice a day. The vet said it's not uncommon and I shouldn't worry, but I'm a nervous mommy, and I can't help it! Did any of your puppies have this issue? Is there anything special I can do to get her to eat or build a little bit of energy? All she does is sleep and cough. It's scaring the heck out of me! Thanks everyone! Jess

Jade is teething and i noticed her breath smells bad... and on her bottom jaw she has 2 molars the same molar on each side that is kind of greyish and her gums are a little puffy, darker and discolored. Is this normal? I called the vet and they said it's normal. I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks

A few months ago Micha was diagnosed with arthritis. I was devastated as he is still only quite young (he's only just turned seven). Mish has been in a fair bit of pain the last few weeks, his walk is very stilted, he won't extend his back legs out properly, he's been urinating on the back deck as he doesn't want to go downstairs and his back end has been very touchy and painful. His back end (where I was told the arthritis was) was really irritating him one night three weeks ago and I took him off to the vet who agreed he had arthritis and gave us some meds for Mish. I knew something was up so I booked him in to see a specialist vet who is also an …

Hi every one. Garres has started to chew on both of his front legs, I would say the wrist? He chews until he is raw and red. I have tried neosporin and he chews right through it. I tried wrapping them and he tears the wraps off. I have not changed anything, same shampoo and flea and tick meds. I use the same spray as always in the yard. I don't understand why he is doing this, and it worries me. Any advice would be greatful, and I do have an appointment set with the vet next week. Just wanted to see if anyone else has maybe had this problem or has any suggestions

Garres was really under weight when we rescued him. He's been on a diet of about 6 cups of kibble a day for 3 months. However he is not putting on any weight in hi hind end. I talked with my vet, and she said to try Nutra Cal. It's like feeding an adult human 4 protein bars a day on top of regular meals. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used it before, or if there is another recommendation? I have never heard of it before, and I am a bit wary of giving him something I have never heard of.

Hi all, Well the good news is that I have tried alot of good quality kibble foods, and the bad news is that Chewy will not eat much if any of the foods. In the last 8 months chewy has tried puppy chow, eukanuba, Iams, science diet and Innova. He would start off taking a few bowls and eating fine but then turn his nose up. As you know I have also added eggs, cheese, and even turkey to his food. Unfortunately, the human style foods had to go because he is not only a begger but with the human raw foods from the fridge he started stealing foods from my kids hands, and caught my daughters skin once, so I took him off that diet pretty quick. On top of the fact that h…
