I thought it might be a good idea, what with so many new members joining the site everyday looking for more info on their soon to be pup, to start a positive reinforcement thread. It doesn't have to follow any specific command or behaviour, just post your tips at random But only one tip/idea per post, but you can post more than once. This is just to give other members a chance at putting their tips up without there being too many repeats lol. Hopefully by posting this thread people will start to move more towards PR than the CM alpha-rolling, lead jerking training I seem to see everywhere now And hey, I'm sure we'll all learn something n…

sow e took suki to the cets this morning very upset, because we thought she was in for a major operation (basically having all her breast tissue removed). the vet gave her the once over and said the lump is much smaller, practically impossible to find. he checked the lab work, and said i think suki has mammary ductal hyperplasia(blocked milk ducts from being in season). it turns out the lab work does not confirm cancer, just shows all the signs of cancer without having any cancerous cells (very annoyed at the vets for leading us to believe she has cancer). so any way we have to take suki back in a weeks time for another check over, but it would seem it wa…

Hi wasn't sure wether to put this in this thread or the working one but anyways.... I'm writting my disertation on all things working sled dogs and know that obviously working sibes need a different diet to pet sibes. So if all you mushers out there could help me out by posting up what diet you have your racing sibes on that would be a great help for my dissertation! Thanks guys!!

Okay, so I got a pup last friday and at the moment I am crate training him and that seems to be going exceptionally well. He has surpassed the 4 hour mark in his crate at night and can go all night without me waking up to take him out to go poop. Initially, we setup his crate in the garage because we are turning the garage into my room and my mom doesn't want him in the house so he's going to be with me, but he was whining and crying and screaming bloody murder when we left him alone at night to sleep so I moved him into my room in the house. He has been very very good. He doesn't cry AT ALL. Not one peep from him and he sleeps throughout the night. One of the issues I am…

Hi guys, As you may have read we have little Saber who's going to be 8 weeks old this Friday. We picked him up on Saturday and he seems to be doing really well, he kind of knows to go potty outside and etc and apart from a few wee accidents now and again inside (When we are too late to get him before he does it) he's been great. However for the last 3 day's all his poo has been liquid Diarrhea, we haven't changed his food from what the breeder was using. The Only thing we have changed is feeding him 4 times a day instead of 3 as the breeder was going. I have noticed that it seemed to start when he started to eat grass and leaves, does any…

Currently I'm feeding Kaien the Prarie brand with Bison and he likes it, but he does have runny poo from time to time. I dont know if it's the food or possible worms, but would yall suggest switching him to a puppy brand like Wellness or Iams since he is only just under 10 weeks and then once he gets older switch him back to the TOTW?

My 6 month sib is starting to come into heat (i think it would explain the dry humping and urinating in the house). We've decided to let her go through 2 seasons before we get her speyed, (although depending on how the next few weeks go I might give in sooner). What I'm wondering is will I still be able to follow the same routine with her, can I still take her out for her walks or will she attract all the horny male dogs!! Any stories of how you guys did with yours!!!

We noticed earlier this week a bump on Haley's snout, a little down from her right eye. It wasn't bothering her or anything, so we watched it to see if it went down or got bigger. It started to go down and was getting better. Then we got home from the store today and the area below her right eye is swollen and the bump on her nose looks bigger. She has dark patches under each eye, but the patch under her right eye is darker and swelled up. It doesn't seem to be bothering her, but I'm going to make an appointment for her tomorrow at Kahtadin's vet - they can usually get her in same day, unlike her vet that won't be able to see her until later in the week if we're luck…

poor suki, last week we noticed a lump and got it checked out, a biopsy was done and it turns out to be cancerous. she is in for an operation on thursday, to have the tissue and surrounding area removed, the vet has said it is an agressive form of cancer. but the positive side of this, is that because when we got suki she was just finishing blowing her coat, it made her stomach not very covered, and we spoted it as soon as it came up, and it is under her skin, above her muscle, not burried deep. the vet said that being in season most likely kicked it into overdrive, otherwise we might not have noticed it. and i have to admit, that if the lump cam…

im sure this has probably been posted before but what the hell lol we all know that puppy vaccs are a neccessity... but what about the yearly boosters?? theres been discussions about this before, are they really that neccessary? some people think that giving yearly jabs can have various side effects, and that boosters last for up to 3 years, instead of the one year that vets have us believe. so whats you opinion? are they necessary? or are we just lining our vet's pockets?? do you booster every year? im just wondering because kiras booster is due in a few months and it got me thinking lol

Hello everyone, I had just adopted a beautiful 3.5 y/o baby girl husky from a local shelter last Sunday. She has had a rough past as she has been adopted and returned to the shelter around 4 times in the past year and a half for stupid reasons. I am having a problem getting her to take to her crate. I dont know if its because she spent so much time in the shelter that she doesnt want to be caged up anymore or what. I had to leaver her in my bedroom twice because she keeps destroying the front door on her crate. But when I come home for lunch scared to death she had destroyed the bedroom she hasn't touched a thing, she is actually waking up from napping on my sp…

Hi everyone. Would love some help on what everyone recommends on leads for their flumps (we had a slight puppy related lead chewing incident ) As it stands with Shadow we have him in a padded collar (Ezydog - www.ezydoguk.co.uk) we then have him in a halti head harness with a double ended extension added to both. We only use his halti when we start out on a walk, or when we do the school run. Once we get sarted the halti is unattched and we put him on a long line lead so he can charge round on his collar. Since we're going to be buying new for Vixen anyway and I'd like them to have the same set up as each other I'd be interested to know what you guys do...…

Ok bear with me here, I'm just so very proud of Ronan I had to share!!!!!! So training has been weak to say the least lately with the weather being wonky and snow conditions being next to nil but also too icey to hook them up to the scooter or cart. Just when things started evening out a bit Jill decided to go into heat which meant zero contact with Ronan anymore since he isn't neutered. This threw a wrench into training too. Its supposed to rain for the next 2 days and the dogs are getting ansty regardless of the time we spend playing with the flirt pole and doing training exercises with thinking games. Ronan is very respectful when I am around and …

Hoping to get the same success here For just over a week we did everything to make the crate fun for Neo.. at nine weeks old we knew it would be a big change for him.. so didn't expect anything other than a lot of howling and that.. he loved the crate with his kong and other toys in there.. but close the door and all he would do was scratch at the door and howl.. for 30-50 mins.. After 3 nights of this (during the day he would howl but not for as long.. so I took to sleeping in the lounge as he knew I was there then - our bedroom is just big enough for our double bed..) the neighbours made a complaint and told us to sort it.. I mentioned we were tra…

What's everyone's thoughts on prawn crackers? While out and about on our studies we met up with a friend of a friend, who owns three huskies and as a treat they were given a few prawn crackers and absolutely loved them. As treats go is this a bad idea?

Currently at night he's sleeping in my room out of the crate because he strongly dislikes being in it. I havent tried putting the crate in my room yet because the crate is a full size one for an adult husky but it does have a divider and a sheet over it. If he is currently sleeping on my bed and in my room on the floor, will I still be able to gradually get him to eventually sleep in his crate or is it maybe to late because I've been letting him sleep in my room and on my bed. He's done very well and no accidents at night so far as I take him out to potty twice a night and sometimes once if he sleeps well.

Hello Husky Friends! I'm working on an article on Sibes for my newspaper. I've met with a local breeder who spent many years showing and participating in Obedience and Confirmation. Does anyone work their dogs in O&C? How's it going? Where did you begin? (I'd like to compare notes with what I have from the breeder I've been talking to. Will check for answers later today.... Thanks all! Becky

Today the pups are slowly being introduced to the above & am interested to know if others have used it & if there were any adverse stomach problems caused. Before their recent upset the pups were fed James Wellbelloved & then switched to homemade boiled chicken & rice when the problem started. After a few days things started firming up but the pups were looking abit too lean so mixed in a handfull of JW which then took us right back to square one. Now things are slightly up & down & am desperate to get them back up to a good weight so have gone for the salmon & potato incase we have an issue with chicken or rice. I would be …
