im ashamed to admit that i gave in today, and bought kira a halti.... shes so strong, that i worry about walking her, especially if we see another dog... she can and sooner or later would have pulled my over, and across a road, so im afraid i went to the range, and got one to try out. It works, which im really pleased about, wasnt sure if it would or not, she doesnt like it much, but shes accepting it now this doesnt mean im giving up on loose lead training, its mainly to give me a helping hand, i can control her much easier with it, especially around other dogs, on our walk tonight 3 saw 3, and usually that would have been hell, but the…

Hi all, We've just bought Yuric, our new 8 week old male sibe home (yes, I will be posting pics tomorrow! ). He has settled in really well, he has already found a spot in the garden where he does his business, he is eating well and playing with his toys but we're not sure whether his behaviour is normal. He kept on trying to go behind the TV where all of the wires are, my boyfriend pulled him out the first time which Yuric protested about with a growl and a bit of a bark, so my boyfriend gently laid him on the floor and held him until he had calmed down. 5 seconds later, he was up and was straight back round by the TV again, so my boyfriend pulled him out for …

so caryring on from the chocolate thread, i though i would post some info on other dog poisons Chocolate The younger the dog, the more dangerous is the risk of chocolate poisoning. Two different toxins called methyxanthines are in chocolate: caffeine and alkaloid theobromine Dark chocolate contains between 1 and 4% the fatal dose is about 140g in a 20kg dog Coco powder about 50g milk chocolate contains about 50% less around 300g white chocolate contains a tiny tiny amount, and your dog could not eat the amount needed to induce poisoning how about coco shells? used as a common garde…

recently kiras started chasing her tail loads... she always gets it, has a chew then lets go and chases it again, a few times everyday... im just wondering if there could be a medical reason she's doing it?? cus i think i read once i can be something in the brain/spinal cord, but then i could have imagined that lol.... shes been recently frontlined and wormed.... she's blowing her coat now, especially around her back end/base of the tail, could this be itchy? or is she just mad and has found this tail thing.... lol

OK im looking for help, when i get my pup (which isnt for a while yet buy i wanna start researching now) i wanna do the best for him, and preferably start him on raw from the day i get him, or at least change him over if he's on a dry food. theres a few things i need to know... Is there a minimum age to raw feeding?? as far as im aware there's not, as some breeders wean pups straight onto raw, but i wanna make sure.... Can a pup eat everything?? obviously not large bones, but what about wings? or would it be better just feeding the mince? How much?? I once read that they will eat the same amount as an adult does in a day... is …

Hello everyone I having a good time with my puppy, but last week last week I took her to the Vet and she got her shots but the Vet told me to change her to a Large Breed Food for Two Months. She was on Beneful I know is bad food but that was the breeder had her on. So i went to PetCo and got Blue Buffalo for Large Breed is not the greatest but it doesn't have Corn on it and I think is a decent dog food I will eventually change it later. So i did switch her food in a period of 5 days and by day 3 or 4 she lost appetite and started only eating her food from the floor not the bowl and her poop was not solid but more like penut butter LoL. And it will change during the day so…

So Mickey has been having quite a time with his Skin for the past 8 months or so. In the past few months he's developed these cuts and sores on his back that will bleed a lot. Took him into the vet, lots of money later... staff infection. 7 days of meds and he would be good. We've gone through 3 rounds of these meds in the past few months. We just finished his last batch middle of October. I had come to the conclusion that he was getting these infections from the lake we used to go to. The park won't keep it chlorinated. Hot weather mixed with not much rain spells bacteria breeding ground. So we haven't visited the lake in about a month and a half. 3 days ago …

Haley is very much a ack leader (or so she thinks). She's fine with us and listens when she's inside or when there are no other dogs around (besides Kahtadin), but htrow another dog in the mix and she becomes a loud mouth bossy dog. When we go to the dog park, she's excited and pulling to get to the gate and go in - so we walk her on the halti to teach her not to pull. It works, but once she's in the first gate and getting her leash off, she's howling and shrieking. And once she's through the second gate into the free-range area, she doesn't shut up - barks at all the dogs, barks while running, just very loud. At first it's ok, she's just getting her energy out (rac…

Hey there gang -- this group was so amazing in helping me successfully solve my pup's "pant-biting" problem, that I have to post this next challenge. Basically, we would like the pup to be on the couch with us, and enjoy some quiet time or even gentle play, but it seems that as soon as we take him to the couch, he thinks it's a rompus room, and starts nipping and getting himself crazy. We have tried yipping and withdrawing, and this only seems to excite him more, and the books say if your dog is one of these, then yipping is not going to work. We have also been trying the finger jab in the neck and saying "NO," when he nips, but that only seems to work half the…

Hi Guys Its my Boy Nanooks 1st Birthday on Saturday, wanted to get him a nice treat, the thing is he is a really sensitive little fella, cant just give him the jumbo rawhide bones and usual dog treats as he wolfs them down in big chunks (he is like a snake with throat reflexs) and ends up with a runny bot Got to break things up, like hotdogs, bits of boiled chicken etc... he is not too bad with pigs ears but not the Bob Martin type cheap ones I would really really like to give him a big bone, something he can have a good chew on, and was thinking about actually going for a butchers type bone as he seems better with real treats not dog trea…

Hello all. I have a 6 week old pup. Being that he left his litter too early, he's had some behavioral problems. He won't stop biting us and trying to attack! My boyfriend was wrestling with him at first but I read that that encourages this sort of behavior so we've stopped that. When he tries to bite us or he does bite us I close my hand around his mouth and say NO firmly but that only makes him want to bite more. Second, he has fleas. We had no idea until we brought him to the vet, who found some of the flea droppings in his coat. I've bathed him in Dawn three times already and I have picked 12 fleas total off of him. We can't get Frontline or anything becaus…

During the christmas hols we had a few walks round Combe Abbey park,i let them run free as usual (yes! i know thats really bad & its probably all my fault). However on the way back to the carpark i could see Ice wretching but was not close enough to see if he had actually been sick.He seemed fine after & carried on charging round the field with his sister. Soon after we got home he was sick but just produced a small amont of bile. The following morning he was sick twice more but now both pups also had chronic diarreah. Between Christmas & New year i took them to the vets where they were given a course of anti-biotics & although i told him they were…

Just been to the Sherwood Pines rally, and saw that when waiting/resting (not attached to sled) the mushers attached the dogs to a long piece of wire with short clip on 'runners' so they don't all get tangled when they are resting. I thought that this would be handy for my two when we go camping instead of them constantly getting tangeld - does anyone know what they are called and where we can get them from (ideally in UK)? Thanks Andy

Just wondering if you guys are able to walk/run with your husky off the leash? Dakota is only 5 months and I walk with her on a leash, I've read on so many websites never to let them off the leash as it's in their nature to run, and they'll be miles away before they turn around and realise they've lost us My boyfriend maintains we'll be able to let her off but I'm not so certain, don't want to lose her. Have any of you had any luck?
