I just heard about a breed started in the 1970's. I'ts called an Alaskan Klee Kai and is a minature husky. Does anyone have any information on this breed? I worry that the breeding process damages the geneology of the husky? Am I being overly concerned? Alan

I let Gijs out for a run on an enclosed area within the shelter yesterday. At first he decided to get rid of the weeds next to the fence, followed by destroying every toy he got hold of... husky style, lol. This red rubber ball is the only one he didn't manage to break. Think he looks quite proud, doesn't he? Oh well, it was time to clean it all up in there anyway, lol. Since I don't work as an intern any more I'm doing this all voluntarily. As a volunteer you would normally work in the mornings and be done in the start of the afternoon. Me being me, I can't really stop working there halfway through the day so I took it upon myself to use…

Out of curiosity, why can't we name horses like we do our dogs and cats? With dogs, the names can be as simple as "Marley", "Ginger" or "Lady". But with horses, it needs to be something hard to spell, unique and... I don't know, funky. This online horse name generator gave me these names: Alizay Moon Blossom Showdown Nibbley Samara Elita Magavin Cruise Thunder Domingo Ever thought of naming your dog Alizay? there's also this two-word names trend going on. I like two-word names my horse in The Sims FreePlay is called Southern Gale. I plan to name my second one (still saving up to buy him LOL) Fleeting Arrow. However, two-word names seem to exclusively be…

Hey, guys.... I know this is kind of off topic and probably isn't the best place to put this but I absolutely had to just vent and get this out there to a community who supports/loves animals. This is the pretty much the cruelest two days I've ever experienced with dealing with another human being and their treatment (or lack there of) of animals. I've never seen blatant animal abuse in person and this just makes me sick. I can't include any specific places for legal reasons but here's the gist of it. I live on a major US base in North Carolina, one of the largest. My husband is currently in the armed services and so we live on base housing. Our houses are connect…

Please welcome the newest member of the household. He (we think he's a "he") is approx 6 month old, a Royal Python. He is currently called Sid but I'm thinking of changing his name. I have had a few ideas thrown my way that I like, Sirius, Kaa (from Jungle Book, I believe lol), Percy (Percy Python made me chuckle!) but still not made my mind up ....

It's no fun getting old. Brooke my little 12.5 year old staffy had to go to the vets yesterday as her re-curring ear infection was back once more in both ears and she's got a lump growing on her side. She's got to have drops twice daily for the next week or so and an ear cleaner used twice per week as a permanent thing. The vet said her lump wasn't anything suspicious and could be easily removed by surgery. He then listened to her heart and paused for a while, no "ooh that sounds good" which worried me a little bit, he then backtracked even further and said surgery was an option and she's in good overall health but that unless it becomes absolutely necessary to…

Got a text from my Mom last night asking me if I could drive down there today to take my childhood dog, Glacier, to the vet because of what appeared to be a badly infected sore on one of his legs. So last night I didn't sleep much as I was trying to prepare myself to possibly have to say goodbye today. Once at the vet's office she poked and prodded at the spot we were concerned about. She concluded that it was skin cancer but wanted to make sure so she took a sample and checked it on a slide. This confirmed that it was indeed skin cancer and looked the way it did because he had been licking and chewing on it even though it didn't appear to cause him pain. There is a chanc…
