Dixie is the newest member of the family. When I got her, I was told she was a silky terrier and poodle mix. But I'm just not sure. In the end, it doesn't matter. But it's always fun to guess the breed! So what do you guys think? http://youtu.be/YulOlQNqdrY http://youtu.be/Jy8yC0mLb7w

Before we got our sibe, Sabaka, we had Smoky the cat. I never thought we'd have a cat, since my wife is deathly allergic to them, and we're "dog people" anyway. Nonetheless, Smoky adopted us by showing up at our house one day. That was 6 years ago! Now she has her own "suite" in the basement, and we've seen her through raising kittens, as she was pregnant soon after we met her. Sabaka is trying desperately to be friends with her, but she'll have none of it, but that's another story. Anyway, today she came home limping. Her foot was not quite at the right angle, so we took her to the vet. All of the metatarsal bones in her foot were severed cleanly! $318 later…

I would not call it smooth sailing so far, but we are trudging along. My husky (Maverick) and my Elkhound (Loki) are hit and miss right now. Mav wants to exert dominance. Loki gets tired of it. Loki is very nice to Hobbes (the cat), but Hobbes wants very little to do with him. Things are getting better though after the first 24 hours. Here he is. with my niece

To non-snakey people, this may not mean much, but my corn snake has finally decided to eat again after almost 6 months!! Every year since we've had him (5 yrs) he has stopped eating for up to 4 months from November .... but he took his 1st mouse last night, struck for it & ate it!! Last year, our other corn did the same (they both stopped eating for 4 months every year) but never started up again. We had him in for tests etc & they found a cancerous growth in his intestine that they could do nothing with & he was put to sleep; I really feared it would happen again, but it hasn't, he is eating well & will be having another mouse tomorrow to celeb…

Wow what an experience and a priviledge to help out a friend while his staffy gave birth to 5 pups ... Got a phone call while out on the Croxteth Park meet from a paniced friend who thought his dog was going into labour.. Handed him over to my friend Dan who was brilliant ' thanks Dan' who gave him some tips to watch out for. On returning from our night walk I sat down to have my toast and tea when the phone rang and Paul in a panic shouted 'she's had a pup and I don't know what to do!' I shouted 'neither do I but I'll be round in a mo!' I arrived to find a very calm mum and a puppy suckling on her and she was cleaning... I stayed and calmed him down until 12.30 and …

I am adopting a Norwegian Elkhound within the next week. Does anyone have any insight into their behavior? Has anyone had any experience with them. From what I can tell he should be a good match for Maverick.

Until our Siberian puppy is ready to pick up, I'm going to share our two cats with you all. Here's our oldest cat, he's still young, he's only a year old and his name is Garfield (he's my husbands cat). This picture was taken a few months ago, so he has grown a ton since then. Here's Buttercup, who is only 8 months old, and is my cat. Again this picture was taken when she was really young, and Garfield was in the picture being a creeper. I'm going to do some searching and find the most recent pictures of them both so Now for a couple of really cute pictures of Garfield and Buttercup together. They've been the best of friends…

hi guys so when I was walking Diamond this morning I met three kittens.. Two of 'em are hugging each other to warm themselves and the other one is trapped between weeds and dirt I rushed home (because Dime tried to eat them) and came back to check their conditions--the trapped one first. This orange-and-white "piebald" kitty is thin and blind in one eye some fur on his back doesn't grow quite well and left some of his skin exposed He's meowing endlessly trying to search for his momma but Mrs. Kitty is nowhere to be found I think Momma has abandoned these three so after cleaning him from dirt and ants I gently lifted him and let him reunite with his two siblings (I be…

Ok, I'm moving by the end of June at the latest and my two friends I'm moving with have a black lab female that's I think around 5yrs old. I haven't met her and neither have my dogs and I'm wondering how to go about doing this. When we move into a house should I take my two first then introduce the lab or should we introduce them in the yard first and not go into the house at all? My two are fine with other dogs as long as they are not small so I don't really see a problem with mine. My friends say that she is a laid back dog doesn't care about other dogs and all that but saying and doing are two totally different things. I can't do this at a dog park or other park with t…

I've spent all week phoning & emailing various rescues, sbt ones, general bullie ones and all breed ones, with no luck at all. All the bully breed rescues are full, and general ones are either full, or unable to take a DA bull breed as they can't rehome the friendly ones they aleady have So our only other options where putting him on facebook/preloved/gumtree etc & risk him falling into the wrong hands, or have him put to sleep, which right now I'm not willing to do. So we have decided to give him one last chance. We think we have figured out his triggers, he gets overexcited quite easily & every 'attack' (in quotes as only onc…

I felt like I should introduce the rest of the family to everyone. :3 We have six cats in addition to our Husky as some of you know. Simon- The eldest of our clan. He's 17 years old and doesn't act a day past 10 years. xP The vet has given him a clean bill of health aside from arthritis in his hips and bad teeth. For anyone cat savvy, he's a Snowshoe. Rather rare breed that's a mix between a Siamese and a Bi-color. When he was a kitten my boyfriend's uncle was about to cut his head off because he had crossed eyes. Vince would not allow this to happen and took him home. His uncle, who was unaware of the breed and how awesome of a cat Simon would be, offered Vin…

And I'm so frustrated. Our neighbors don't mind noise generally...they LOVE to watch the huskies play...but our beagle drives them insane. Every time they go outside with or without their furbaby she goes absolutely nuts...not like a little nuts...but like making the whole world realize that there's someone she's aware of nuts. They've started to knock on our door to complain about HER noise specifically...I wouldn't have believed there was a dog that made Huskies seem quiet, but we have one. We've worked with her for a year to try to curb the barking and the howling and it's just not happening..so we're to the point where I can keep her in all the time, le…

With me moving out of the house in a few weeks and taking Lobo, my mom decided to get a new puppy. I found a puppy on Craigslist that a family was giving away and got it for my mom. She's such a darn cute puppy too, I'll post pictures later. Well anyway, my mini dachshund Bella is my moms little princess and she is being awful towards the puppy. She keeps trying to attack her. I'm assuming she's jealous and being possessive of my mom. I'm afraid Bella will hurt Dixie since she's so tiny and only 10 weeks old. What can I do to teach Bella that Dixie is a family member now?? Please help!!!!!!!!!

I think i'm starting to crack... I haven't been able to stop thinking about the idea of getting a ferret. Not that it has overshadowed my desire to get a Husky, but i'm just looking ahead at all this time I will have...and as much as I love my bird, I want a fuzzy pet I can play with too. I have tried to deter myself by looking at all the bad points, but well...it's not working. Someone please talk me out of it
