I took in another rescue bird today. I don't remember her breed, but she's a small parrot a bit smaller then my other rescue. She was being picked on in the cage, so badly that she is raw from having her feathers pulled out by the other mates (same breed, males) and she was very sick. I have a box/cage with a light in it to keep her warm, vitamin water and good food. Fingers crossed for her, I hope she pulls through she's pretty sick and beaten up. Poor girl.

A little about Fox's playmate Angel the beagle. Angel is completely neurotic...this isn't entirely her fault and we try not to hold it against her. Her previous owners used her for a BYB brood bitch. The vet estimates that this two year old bitch has had between three and five litters of puppies. End result: Dog with nipples larger than mine, Canine Myositosis from neglect and malnutrition coupled with being bred too young, dog with fear of people whose not socialized at all, intolerant of puppies in general. It took us a month to get this darling to the point that her jaws were strong enough to eat solid food. She wasn't house broken, and she ran from all adults. …

In slightly random news, Aaron and I found a baby flying squirrel tonight that was just hanging outside our apartment building. At first we were a bit confused because we thought they were warm weather animals, but it turns out there are Northern Flying Squirrels that live across the northern US. We promptly headed out to get a syringe, milk substitute, bedding, etc. so we can start rehabbing the poor little guy (at least we think we sexed him correctly as a male...) We are planning to release him when he gets a bit older, although we might keep him through his first winter just to give him a better chance. We estimate he's about 7 weeks old. It migh…

As most of you will know we lost our beautiful boy boog (cat) at the end of july. Well our vet phoned us last week to ask if we were ready to adopt another cat or two they are an RSPCA vet centre and this is where we had originally had boog from. Although we still havent got over loosing boog, our other cat also misses him terribly so we thought there would be no harm in having a look They stole our hearts the minute we laid our eyes on them. They are 16month old tabby brothers with big yellow owl like eyes and the markings of a tiger. They are both big soppy babies and love nothing more than jumping up on you for lots and lots of hugs LOL We brought t…

I thought it would be a good idea that i spoke to you about my two rescues i had 08-09 and I'm still upset about what had happened and what they had been through that i think talking about it might get it off my chest a little. First dog i rescued was .. Bella I had taken her from my brother and sister in-law as a 5 month old, they had her since she was around 6-7 weeks. She was a Labrador bitch, unde-sexed. She had many bad habits, but i will get to that bit later. It was obvious she had been beaten, you could tell by the way she reacted, acted and how was was in general. She was aggressive …

Hello everyone, This is my new addition to the family, so far that makes it 2 dogs, 2 horses, 3 cats, 3 birds and a very cheeky tropical fish! He was rescued by a lady who brought him into the local petshop as she didn't know how to raise him ~ she had been feeding him SEED! which is a big no no because it ruins the hairs on their tongues! But she didn't know any better. When we went into the local petshop i saw him in a cage covered up, had a look in and AWWW HE'S SOOOO CUUUTTEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Had to wait 4 weeks to get him BUT he came home Saturday, still on baby formula but that's not that hard and weaning birds off baby food is …

Hey everyone, hope all's well . Just wanted to post this up to see if anyone can help in anyway. There's so many shelter animals out there needing help, so i understand it's an uphill battle, but a rescue i know have just posted this plea for help. ''EXTREMELY URGENT!!!! Good evening fellow animal lovers, we have some urgent and potentially sad news. Attached is a photo of two maremma cross border collie boys, we only have 12 hours to find them a foster home! The pound has said they will be killed tomorrow afternoon and they will not be holding them over despite being favourites with the staff. These boys smile and give you t…

With the reports coming in from some of the large multi dog rescues that Huskies are becoming the "Next Staffys" numbers in wefares wise, This will break your heart to read, but so needs to be read if it stops our beloved breed falling by the way. Woodgreen. The RSPCA. All only give Sibes 7 days to be rehomed or PTS Please have a hankie ready Today is just another day - to me they're all the same I have the worst of genes you see, I bear the "Staffy" shame. The shame is in our numbers, there's thousands with no home. Thousands just like me you'll find, in kennels all alone. My mum was "just a Staffy", my father - wel…

my sister lives with me and my boyfriend and a few months ago she brought home a 4 week old kitten. obviously a terrible idea with a siberian in the house:rolleyes: he's now almost 5 months old and thinks he's a beast! if embry is in the same room as him he will chase him down and pin him and embry just takes it, probably doesn't help that we had an incident where embry almost ate him the first week of him living with us:( he's such a gorgeous little terror,

I was talking to my friend who allows her pug and their pomeranian off leash when we go to the beach. There's in general not to many people when we go and not crowded at all. She thinks I can trust Foxy off leash if we tried. She's ran off three times but has yielded to my commands more or less when she had. The first day we had her she had actually slipped off her collar and ran off to our apartment when we had been out for a walk. The funny part is we looked for her for a couple hours and came back and she was sitting on our door step ; not that I'm complaining lol. So my question is how does one get up the nerve to try your dog off leash and for the most part where is…

OK so I have two tanks of fresh water tropical fish... Tank 1 is a small 10 gallon tank populated by small fish (neon tetra, rasbora, danios, a couple of small barbs and a few cherry shrimp. Tank 2 is a large 100 gallon tank which is currently populated by 4 ruby barbs, a bistloe nose plec and an electric yellow cichlid... now anyone who nows about fish will know that a malawian cichlid shouldnt be this this type of set up as all the rest are soft water fish and he is a hard water fish who should be in a malawi species only tank. History behind this is that I got him with an adult Bala Shark, a ruby barb, a long finned rosie barb and a peppered …

Ever since I was little I've always wanted to keep reptiles, I absolutely love them! My first choice would be to get a corn snake or maybe a rat snake but Jamie HATES snakes with a passion so thats definately out of the question. We are re-decorating the house and Paul (Jamies dad) has built a large structure to hold the two aquariums he has just bought and there is enough space for another tank of about 4ft in length and they have said I can have that space to keep a lizard (they were very specific it had to be a lizard with visable legs!). I have been looking into a bearded dragon and have just read a book about keeping them as pets and was wonderi…

With the cold weather we lost a few birds both female love birds and 1 cockatiel So with the weather changing hubby treated me to 4 new finches, I’ve never had them before but he did as a child. I was having a clean out and putting in new nesting boxes for them when i noticed Satan was not head butting me every 2 mins. Satan is an old male my mum gave me as she never managed to breed off him and he’s always been a bit grumpy and will fly at you and head but when you go in the aviary so as I'm not a breeder i took him in. Well i found Satan in hiding I …

My friends and neighbors ( chris and danielle lost their dog Lucy this week when she escaped their yard at 630 in the morning. They miss her very badly and have not found or gotten any info as to where Lucy might be. Lucy is a sweet, friendly, fun loving, pooch. Her family lives right next door, and they have been searching everywhere for her, and I have been keeping my eyes peeled too. Her family paid $1500.00 to bring her to hawaii and through quarantine, and they are very loving and dedicated owners. Her owner Danielle started crying last night when I asked if they had gotten any news, as I have every night for a week. They miss Lu…
