Just a Staffy

Recommended Posts

With the reports coming in from some of the large multi dog rescues that Huskies are becoming the "Next Staffys" numbers in wefares wise,

This will break your heart to read, but so needs to be read if it stops our beloved breed falling by the way. Woodgreen. The RSPCA. All only give Sibes 7 days to be rehomed or PTS

Please have a hankie ready

Today is just another day - to me they're all the same

I have the worst of genes you see, I bear the "Staffy" shame.

The shame is in our numbers, there's thousands with no home.

Thousands just like me you'll find, in kennels all alone.

My mum was "just a Staffy", my father - well who knows?

Mum, too, became unwanted, as the last puppy goes.

And then begins the process, of money-making deals

A life of "moving on" unfolds, who cares how the Staffy feels?

If you have the cash to hand, the Staffy pup is yours

But that pup is getting bigger now, just look at those big paws.

You brought me for your image, thought I'd make you look more tough

But you'll find my boisterous nature has already got too much.

If you had thought to train me, with kindness and with praise

You would have had a faithful friend to share your darkest days.

I would lay down my life for you, but you simply cannot see

You make sure you get your money back on what you paid for me.

And on it goes, until one day, I'm no longer worth a dime

The retail on an adult staff - not worth the waste of time.

So what happens to a Staffy now? Do you really want to know?

Do you care what will become of us, when we leave our final home?

Have you ever thought to wonder, "Where is that Staffy now?"

The "Staffy" has another name; he's become a "stray" somehow.

Me, I was put into a car and driven far away

The door held open, I jumped out, I thought to run and play.

It was with joy and happy heart I turned to look for you

You drove away with all my trust and a piece of my heart too.

I wondered round for many days before I was brought here.

Now I wait with heavy heart, trepidation and with fear.

Seven days is all I have you see, seven days for you to claim

The little dog that you threw out, for which you have no shame.

This is my last goodbye now my seven days are up

If only more thought had gone into the future of that pup

As the needle empties to my veins I lay down with one last sigh

I'm sorry I was born a Staffy

"the RSPCA only give sibes 7 days for rehome or pts"

Where did you get that information from? It is certinally not something I have ever heard of. Sibes are a dog lots of people come into my centre hoping to rehome and while are hard to home because of finding a suitable owner are not PTS unless they show severe aggression to people or other dogs.

I cant comment on woodgreen as I do not know their procedure but the RSPCA do not pts dogs after 7 days. All their dogs are currently abuse cases and there is no time limit on rehoming. As long as the dog is not people/dog aggressive it is rehomed. I know dogs that have spent a year in kennels waiting for the right home and one of those was a sibe.

Dog wardens and battersea dogs home only need to hold dogs for 7 days while they search for the owners then they can PTS or rehome. Charities have a different approach as they do not take in stray dogs, just dogs that need rehoming

so sad but also true humans are the worst of any living creture this planet as, we know what we are doing yet still do it with no thought to any one/thing xxx

how very true.

i see the way people behave and it saddens me.

the worst of it is that there is no need for anyone or anything to go homeless or hungry or suffer. there are enough resources in the world that everyone and everything could live a nice life (look up the venus project), but people are greedy, and want nicer and better things, and along comes a seemingly easy way of making money, and they go for it without a thought for the consequences.

we could have bred micha she has papers and we could have sold her pups for a small fortune each and the money would have been nice, but that would have been just wrong. and we didn't do it.

apparently bitches that don't have litters very rarely get sex organ cancers, i dont know if this is true or not, but we liked the idea of our husky never getting cancer and living to be old.

the old adage that money is the root of all evil, is basically true. get rid of money and society would be a whole lot nicer.

no more puppy mills if they cant sell them.

people would breed animals for the love of it, not for the cash. i would love to breed huskies, but i dont have the space the money or the knowledge for it.
