Ok so I need some open-minded advice. I am not ever ever going to give chewie up...and no matter how much he digs or how much dirt and mud he brings in he will not become a Completely outside dog. But I have a problem. He has begun to dig really big holes and the last one he dug extended up and under the concrete of the house...this could be quite dangerous for him....as Im sure there are electrical and water lines in the vicinity of this hole he dug. I have re-covered it but I doubt it will last long...lol. I could be booted from housing if he damages any lines...and also as we know he could die or be seriously injured if he reaches the lines. Hone…

Thought i'd start this thread about feeding the BARF diet, hopefully if it gets enough views and info put onto it it can be made into a sticky so it can be easily found by members old & new who are looking into feeding BARF..... so help me guys, add what you feed, how much, and what effects it has had on your sibes, good and bad. OK so lets talk basics.... BARF stands for Bones And Raw Foods, and is basically the natural diet to feed cats and dogs. As we all know in the wild dogs and cats are both hunters and scavengers, and feed mostly on other animals. When the dog eats it doesnt eat only specific parts of the animal, it will eat the fur, skin, muscle, or…

Zoya's going in to the vet on Wednesday morning to have a teeth cleaning. She has a very small amount of tartar on her back molars. We want to get it cleaned off before it starts to buildup and leads to any gum problems or infection. We have been giving her raw carrots, and that seems to have done quite a bit to control the tartar. What is there has been there for a few months, but has not increased much if at all with the raw carrots. It will be interesting to see if once we get her teeth cleaned, if the raw carrots will keep the tartar form reforming.

I am new to this forum and already posted about poo related issues....Stoli, our 13 week old, has been a bit of a nightmare with the nipping. He is attacking our feet, hands, anything he can sink his teeth into. Pulling on our sleeves and refusing to let go. I have tried all of the suggested things, but he seems to think I am playing. I am worried that this will continue. Our two boys have to run away from him when he starts because it hurts! He is still so little that I worry about breaking his little spirit by being too harsh about this. Thanks for any help you might have for me!

It will be one week, gosh time flies, on Wednesday that I've had Kiana and I was going to start switching her diets then. However, I've noticed her sneaking Foxy's food and now she won't hers. I know I can't just up and switch her over but is it ok, even though it hasn't quite been a week yet, to start switching her over? If so how should i go about it? Half and half?

Hello again, I have a quick question. Our puppy has a ton of energy. While I am at work my wife and kids are home and usually have Missy in the backyard running with our daughter or in the kitchen gated in. She doesn't get much freedom to roam our house as we are still house breaking her. As soon as I get home from work I take her on a walk, usually around a mile or so and it last about 15 minutes. The last couple days she has still had a ton of energy even with me playing with her in the backyard, so today I took her on our normal walk route and incorporated a jog that eventually turned into a good running pace. She was pushing the pace which I didn't min…

Since Kiras now going through her 2nd season I thought I'd post up a few tips for those with bitches in season Before the 1st season: Bitches usually come into season for the 1st time from 6 months onwards, heres a few tips to get prepared beforehand... Scout out local park/fields etc at random times for a couple of weeks, this will give you an idea as to when places are usually dog free. Decide wether your willing to clean up after her or put something over her to 'catch' the flow (much like humans!) If you have nice carpets and dont want to clean up after her you can either get 'bitch nappies' or young boys pants, pants work much better th…

Hi guys, Saber has been doing really well this last week and a half, he's back to solid stools drinking less water and is generally doing great. I'm keen to move him onto the BARF diet as i believe dogs deserve what they would get in the wild, rather than what we pick up from a shop. I wanted to ask how do i go about approaching the new diet in terms of amounts and etc?, i've read the various threads on the forum and have made notes of links and etc to do some heavy reading over the next week or so. He's going to be 12 weeks old next Friday (Can't wait to start taking him out for walks lol). Currently we are feeding him 4 times a day, each…

Hi guys, I wanted to ask if anyone has successfully trained their dog's to ring a bell when wanting to go outside to do their business. We manage to get Saber to go to the garden door when he want's to go about 50% of the time. But sometimes we don't notice it and he'll either go for a wee right by the door because no-one was there to let him out or he'll come to where we are and do it infront of us after getting no luck at the door. So i was thinking of putting a bell or even a door bell (Found an old one in the garage) on the garden door and teaching him to ring or press the button whenever he wants to go outside. That way even if we are not there …

So i decided to venture into feeding alittle raw to my boy since I can buy it for somewhat cheap so i bought a 4 lb thing of raw chicken wings. I gave him two last night since that seemed to be appropriately proportioned to him and how much he eats. OMG how noisy he is. I thought maybe I need to crack the bones but let him have the first one to see how he does. He sorta looked at it in a awkward way as if to say "WTF is this? Where is my kibble?!" but he soon started licking it and then carried it off to his crate where the smacking and snapping began. It sounded like a ill-mannered family at a crab buffet. I did managed to video 1 min of him eating his first one a…

Hi guys, well as my title says- my husky puppy has decided that he now will soil his crate all of a sudden! we have had him at home with us since 5th Feb 2010...we pretty much sorted his toilet training straight away- we had a few mishaps inside the house but he now will go to the toilet outside everytime..he starts to yelp slightly to let us know he wants to go But fri night and lastnight my hubby has woke up in the middle of the night as he can hear Shiloh figgiting downstairs and when he's gone to check him he has pooped and done a wee inside his crate all over his bedding?? he has never done this before and he didnt bark or cry to let…

So the method I was using which was basically randomly stopping, starting and changing direction for me wasn't working as the boys where almost always out of my view and living on a busy road and knowing they could easily run into the road wasnt helping me buiding any confidence around the house and main roads which as you probably know isnt good for training. So I have thought of trying something else which I don't know if it is a method trainers use or not but I thought I would give it a go and see what happens and just wanted other peoples opinions on it. I thought of this idea when I was with Gizmo and he was constantly lunging ahead of me to get…

Written by: Laurinda Morris, DVM Danville Veterinary Clinic Danville , OH This week I had the first case in history of raisin toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix that ate half a canister of raisins sometime between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday. He started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking about 1 AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't call my emergency serv…

Hi, my puppy is a 10 week old boy. Lately, I have noticed a change in his behavior towards me and my gf and in general as well. He has been excessively hyper recently and have started a habit of biting our hand when we play with him. Also, he is constantly trying to play a game of tag with me and running away whenever I approach him. When I try to pick him up he will try to bite my hand when I am grabbing him. I don't know if this is just his way of trying to play with us or not. I wouldn't say he is being aggressive as he doesn't growl at us or anything. He just doesn't respond well to us saying NO or ignoring him. We play with him at leas…

Our wonderful puppy Stoli is 13 weeks old. We are loving him to bits, but feeling worn out from all of the poo! He seems to go every couple of hours! My husband believes it was at least nine times yesterday. In the morning first thing, after his morning meal, several times before lunch, after lunch, you get the idea....Is this normal for puppies? It is difficult to avoid accidents with this sort of schedule since I cannot spend the entire day outside! I have red through other threads and think we have definitely been feeding him too much, so I am going to try to cut back on his food. We had tried giving him some treats and a raw hide bone (which he loves) and the treats d…

Hi All... Fed my 6 Month old pup her first Raw food last night, Chicken Wings....and she loooooved them. She's been a fussy eater since we got her so I'm happy we may have found something she really enjoys eating. Couple Q's... My Pup weighs around 30lbs. I'm wondeing how much raw food I should be giving her. I'm going to be sticking with chicken wings and breast as we start this journey. She blew through 2 wings in about 10 seconds LOL What other foods should I be adding to her meals, I read the stickied post about veggies, just wondering for those raw feeders, what does a meal consist of besides the main course. So.…
