Hi everyone! Just a quick question... Some of you might remember me from a previous topic regarding his main guard fur growing very slowly. Anycase, sam has had many Hot Spots the last 2 months or so...so lots of biting went on, and worse of all..is that they went down straight to his skin..meaning 2-3 months of hair growth again..and because his guard fur is taking forever to come through...(since his baby fur is taking long to come out) since he isnt shedding....everytime a whole is made from the hot spot...the guard fur grows through.. So currently he has patches of guard fur and patches of baby fur..throughout his back …

for neutering and his back dew claws removing, two weeks today, 22nd February 2010. It is going to cost us £160 - £98.50 for the neutering and the rest for having his dew claws removed. Can't believe that if he wasn't having them done at the same time it would have been £125 just to have his dew claws removed, although this does include one or two visits afterwards for his dressings changing and stitches taken out.

so we got harnesses (leads and collars) from carly (very well made btw) for our 2 girls figured would get them pulling when they run, usually we ride with them, they cant go any faster than us. micha and suki are both used to their lupi harnesses which are antipull harnesses, and micha is used to a walking harness. i put them in their harnesses today, micha did not want to move at all, she went and hid under the bed poor thing, when i tried suki by herself she was more than happy to run, but micha wasnt happy. im sure she just needs to get used to it, but i wondered if anyone has tips, sugestions, and also a site that tells you how tight/ loose the harnes…

Hi guys, Just seeing if i can get a little feedback and maybe any improvements on Saber's diet. He's had diarrhea all of this week. I think it may be a combination of us over feeding him and being giving his second worming pill. As of today I'm going to reduce his meals from 4 meals a day to 3 meals a day. I wanted to ask if feeding every 6 hours is okay?. i.e 6am, 12pm and 6pm. Also in terms of the amount of food. We are slowly introducing him to James Wellbeloved from Bakers and at the moment each meal is 60g. Should we keep it at 60g and just reduce it to 3 meals a day from 4?. Even while feeding 4 meals a day he is always coming into where we fee…

ok so i've been clicker training with kira for about a week, mainly using it for heelwork, and its helped a lot, i not dont need her halti, though she still pulls slightly, so we need to do more work on it... my problem is shes not very good at offering me behaviours... she definately knows that click = treat, but doesnt like to offer me behaviours to work with... I'd like to teach her some cool tricks using it, and get her really into training, and actually having to think she's just turned a year old and already knows: -paw (and other paw) -sit -stay (when she can see me) -down -crawl -roll over -hug (jump…

I just picked Mia up from the shelter 2 weeks ago and I really do feel she is way too skinny. Her rear hip bones are poking up pretty good and you can easily feel her ribs and spine. The vet tech at the shelter told me she has been eating the same amounts of food for the time they have had her(on/off for a year...thats another story in itself) and she hasnt gained/lossed more than 1lb. She looks so much like a wolf because she is tall and slender. I'm feeding her Natural Choice High Energy dog food. She wont eat in the morning and eats 2 scoops in the evening and I leave her food out overnight and might have another scoop or so at night. Should I mix some puppy food in th…

well while i was at work last night got a call from the moms... Desna caught and killed a possum. the possum got one good "lick" in on Desna's muzzle. So my question is what are the steps to make sure he's clean? we sent the possum off to animal control for a rabies test, Desna is current on all his shots through July, and is now quarantined to the house and yard for 45 days... (no walks at all, he's going to hate life for a month and a half). The scratch on his nose was cleaned with peroxide and rubbing alcohol to hopefully kill any non-rabies nastiness that may have gotten on him. But I need to know what are my next steps. Don't really want to get a new husky, i'd rathe…

Hi guys, It's coming up to two weeks that we've had Saber. The food the breeder had him on was Baker's and from the general feedback i've had, it's not really that good of a brand or food to be giving him. My vet is suggesting Royal Canine (But is int that what they all say?). I would also like your opinion on the feeding rate and amount that i'm currently giving him. He's going to be 9 weeks old this Friday and we are Feeding him 4 times a day, every 5 hours starting at 5am. I'm giving him 50g of Bakers for each meal. He's had Diarrhea for the last 3 days, but that may have something to do with the worming pill we gave him?. Please any su…

My wife and I recently got our Husky, Meiko, back in November. We got him at six weeks, which we've found to be a little to early. He does pretty well with everything except nipping. He nips incredibly hard sometimes and I feel like he challenges me especially when he's doing this. He can be very calm for several minutes while you rub him and then in a flash he switches to nipping and won't stop. He's started jumping on me and wrapping his legs around mine, not humping, but I feel like maybe challenging me when he's doing this. He sleeps in his crate at night without much fuss, he's pretty much house trained, and he responds well to commands except when nipping. We…

I have searched on the forums here for the answer to this and haven't run across the answer so I figured I would ask... My wife and I want to train our pup to sleep in our bedroom on the floor...where do we begin with this accomplishing this? and how do we go about successfully training our sibe to do this? Thanks

Hello again, I am still very new here and very new to raising puppies. My wife has raised our cat and dog, both of which she had prior to us meeting. She has an idea of how to train puppies, but we have a dilemma. For those of you that have looked at our introduction thread, you would have noticed that we are getting two puppies. One is very hyper. She is like that toy thats wound up and its legs just keep going until they make contact with the group and zoom theyre off. The other is a lot smaller. She was born prematurely with 2 others and is quite timid and small. I am reading through 'Erika and Chewy' training thread and will show it to my wife as well…

The reason I ask is that recently i've been giving Kaien as much as water as he'll drink but then in response makes him pee literally like every 30 mins to an hr compared to him pooing maybe every 3-4 hrs if hes awake and running about. He'll play for about 15-30 mins, then get a drink, repeat. Will his need for water slow down or should I be limiting his water intake?

Ok I have a 7 week old akc Husky. She is a pretty good pup so far although I have only had her 3 days lol. I am laid off right now so I have tons of time to spend with her, she is pretty good already and seems to go potty out side very well only a few accidents in the house so far I take her out just about ever hour - hour and a half, and right after she eats and wakes up. This seems to be workign pretty well. My question is; Is there away you can teach her to bark when she has to go to the bathroom? I know its prolly to early to start but wondering when and how. Also I bought a crate its a pretty big one not sure on the size I threw the box out yesterday but …

hi guys!! ive started this tread from something i read in another, i didnt want Mallie sleeping in with us, but she didnt give us any choice... she cryed for 3 hrs friday nite and as we didnt have our new sofa to sleep on then i gave up and she slept on the floor by my bed. she curls up there every nite now with her training pads outside the door. she wakes us at about 7am for her breakfast. we do have a problem with seperation tho, she gets very distressed even if we close the door going toilet - im dreading going back to work... she does go into her crate but just to sniff about and eat (we put her food in there) we've given treats while in…

Hi all, hope i put this in the right section. I crate wolfie at sleep time and when we go out, at sleep time i always leave his crate half shut, and during the night he comes out and lays on the floor, sat just gone we went out for a meal and we crated him as normal with toys and a treat and locked it, we were gone bout 3 hours and when we came back his front paws were all wet and there was loads of fur inside his crate, and there was patches around his back legs, now i was bit worried as didnt know whether he is blowing his coat or whether he was stressed and starting biting at his fur, you could pull bits out quite easily, so i groomed him and there was quite a bit of f…

I took Polar on a fairly long hike on a sandy trail a couple of days ago. Yesterday I discovered that she was constantly licking her rear left foot. Turns out that the skin between two of the toes on that foot is red and irritated. She's got very long hair between her toes, I'm guessing some sand got trapped in the hair between her toes and rub her toes raw.The long hair is also preventing me from putting any ointment on her skin, it all ends up on her hair. I'm thinking of trimming the hair between her toes, I'm just wondering is there any potential problems if I do it?

Pongo loves pig ears and goes absolutely bananas over them. I was just wondering if they were ok to give him one a couple times a week. they just seem so greasy. I found an alternative to them which are pork skins shaped into pig ears. They're harder and baked instead of fried, but he still loves the real thing better. Just wanted an opinion

Hi guys, Saber is wanting water a lot of the time, i think it's because he may be dehydrated from the Diarrhea. I'm more than happy to keep giving him water whenever he wants it (Sometimes he doesn't want to eat and just wants water). However this does mean he's constantly needing a wee and often does a quick whizz in the house before we get to him. Should i continue to give water whenever he wants it, or should i try to limit it a bit to control his weeing? Also a few times at night, he's been whining and etc and when i let him out he just want's water. Should i leave some in his crate overnight? I'm afraid he will knock…

Ok so the other day i got a clicker after reading up on it a bit after Bec mentioned it in another thread started working on it that night, teaching leave, which she now knows (after 10 minutes lol) though it does need a little more work to get it perfect and today i decided i was going to use it to teach loose leash walking, as im sick of being dragged around and she started pulling through her halti we started in the back garden and she done really well out there so after 10 minutes in the garden i decided to take her out on the street. We spend 10 minutes walking up and down outside and she was doing so well! she loves it when i click, she…

Hello all. I've been reading the forums and books as well about huskies and I've been doing everything everyone has been saying. My pup Calcifer (9 weeks old yesterday) seems to be regressing! He was once good about going to the bathroom outside, but now we will bring him out and within a half an hour he goes again! Even if he's peed 3 times or pooped twice! He also pees when he's mad at us. If we tap him on the nose for biting or take something that he's chewing away from him (like something he shouldn't be chewing) he pees! He doesn't even seem to really like us most of the time. We got him at 5 and a half weeks (way too early) and so I am thinking maybe that is where t…
