I have just finished reading the Apocalypsis series (books 1-3) by Elle Casey. It is a YA post-apocalyptic series, and is really, really very good. If you are young, or young at heart, you will enjoy this, even if you have never thought of reading post-apocalyptic/dystopian books. Book four will probably be released within the next few months - waiting impatiently You can read the reviews etc here : http://www.amazon.com/Apocalypsis-Book-1-Kahayatle-ebook/dp/B008E95UOK/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1360830530&sr=1-1&keywords=Apocalypsis%3A+Book+1+%28Kahayatle%29 Another series I recently finished reading was the post-apocalyptic series "Th…

This is a great little New Zealand film. Set up as a mockumentary that follows vampire flatmates in Wellington - New Zealand. This is one of the funniest films I have seen in years - I loved it 8.5/10

We have just finished watching the entire first series of this over two sittings...... We first saw a bit of episode one when we were on holiday in Dominican in July and decided to download it when we got home but have only just got round to watching it given the appalling offerings on "normal" telly over Christmas. It's based around an invasion of vampires, only not traditional vampires as we all know (and love) them. There's lots of twists and turns and the series makes for good entertainment with not a massive amount of concentration required (which I good for me lol). I have to say that it was really quite good actually and I'm looking forward to where it…

So all the way back in my trip to Grand Rapids, I went to watch the barely-marketed Jake Gylenhaal film "Nightcrawler". Now this, folks, is what I call a movie. The story revolves around Louis Bloom (Gylenhaal), an unemployed antisocial that 'works' as a thief. Then one day he discovered a freelance cameraman that records crime and accidents to be sold to TV channels. He then starts 'nightcrawling' himself, slowly climbing up the stairs in the profession by focusing in strategic business tactics that overlooks morals and law. Everyone's acting was awesome and the story was gripping. People leave the theater with a whole new perspective about the whole TV news business (an…

I've never been much for podcasts but a coworker suggested I check it out and I did. And I'm addicted to it! It's a really good podcast and a very interested (true) story. If you like crime dramas and real life cases I would highly suggest giving it a try Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When sudden and massive earthquakes open the Arabian tectonic plate, the result is unstable weather and freezing temperatures that will be unsurvivable by nightfall. Attempting to reach safety, a vacationing American family in Egypt, the Jones', must battle the rapidly cooling temperatures that usher in a new Ice Age, covering the Sphinx, Pyramids, and Sahara Desert with mountains of snow. This is just about the worst film ever ....... worst acting worst script worst CGI They give it 2.4/10 on IMDB which I think is very generous I'd say 1/10 at the most If like me you got a spare hour and half of your life to give away you gotta see it for just how …

Starring - Chris Evans, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris et al. Directed by Joon-ho Bong (director of The Host) This is a great big budget Korean movie, set in a time when the earth has frozen over and survivors live in a perpetual motion train. Incidentally, the Weinsteins came under a lot of resistance to make the movie shorter for US audiences, but outrage saw them release the full version This is a great original film with some really interesting ideas and concepts 7.5/10

A great low budget Australian terror film - I prefer to call these type of movies terror, rather than horror as it is not a blood or gore-fest film. Interestingly William Friedken (director of the Exorcist) tweeted that this was the scariest movie ever made. Now I think that is going a bit far, so I recommend anyone watching it without expectations and view it as it is - a low budget scary flick. I give it a 8/10 for this genre. Superb acting by the mum and child.

For no particular reason I seem to be on an Aussie movie swing Maybe I am biased but I really love the Aussie slant on post apocalyptic movie genre. Mad Max was one that started a whole swag of genre movies. What other country would have the lead actor wearing shorts throughout The Rover Little details like this made me quite impressed. The Rover is very different. Starring one of my favourite Aussie actors - the often underrated Guy Pearce and Brit - Robert Pattinson who shows that he really can act following the positively awful Twilight films. This is a slow moving film full of atmosphere but may not appeal to everyone. I would classify this more of an…

This has been out for a little while now but I wanted to recommend this one... Tom Hardy really is, in my opinion one of the best actors going around these days. In this movie which is set within a BMW driving on the Motorway, you really get to see a master of acting show his talent. This is not an action film, it is hard one to classify - maybe drama, maybe thriller and is gripping all the way through. 8.5/10 I am really looking forward to seeing Hardy as Mad Max next year, the short previews I have seen he nails the Australian accent like very few actors can, from the few bits of dialogue I would say his accent is absolutely perfect.

Another small budget Australian film. This is a good film that is hard to classify as there are some funny scenes, but it is quite dark and more of a thriller. Hugo Weaving (LOTR, Hobbit, Matrix) is excellent as one of the detectives. 7.5/10

I watched the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles two nights ago. What a load of rubbish, I can find no positives about this production. I can happily sit through a B grade movie, but this was a major production. I give it 1/10

You lot must've heard about this movie. The marketing was insane. I've just watched it 2-3 days ago in my local cinema so thought I'd give you guys a heads up: don't bother. I'd rate this movie 5/10 and that's already very generous of me First off, the story line is lazy and very very predictable (one 'very' doesn't suffice!). In fact, I can tell you what happened in the whole movie in one sentence: a rebel teen that engages in illegal stuff that then becomes a hero, set up a hero team and saved the day. Actually, add in several tear-jerking moments because that's where I'm going next. Second off, this really is the worst movie to watch when you've just lost some…
