My Iberian Wolfdog Puppy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This week, on thursday, I am going to pick up my Iberian wolfdog puppy from Spain.

Short description(from the breeder) translated from Spanish:

Physical and  psychologically most akin to the Iberian wolf and balanced, healthy and strong. It is lively and energetic, very attached to the pack in high degree, in this case that would be the family or the owner, it is reserved with strangers. You get the features of the Iberian Wolf, highly intelligent, with all senses much more developed, very rich in mime and very wolf.

Females tend to have a single estrus per year.

The coat varies from silver gray to light brown or dark. The winter coat shows much more dense, with three layers of very different hairs and summer which is less dense, the eyes are yellow, from light caramel.

A few pics of him with some info translated (from the breeder):

Now they are starting to lift their ears, then they will be changing their fur, their eyes turn yellow later, now they have a dark blue baby colour.

Have you checked to make sure it's okay to keep the puppy where you live? Just wondering because some places require owners to have a license,

Anyway good luck and hope it works out for you. :)

Afaik wolfdogs are only legal in the Netherlands starting from the F5 generation.

  • 5 months later...

Hey all. Its been some time now. The flight from Spain to the Netherlands went well. The moment that I picked him up I already felt a strong bond with him. He is very attached to me. For strangers and strange objects he is shy. His character is of calm nature, but he can be very playful and energetic with my Husky in the garden or outside in the forest off-leash. He prefers to stay with me all the time, where ever I go, he follows me. If I am sitting behind a table he will lay down on my feet. If I am in the living room, he will lay down somewhere close to me, etc. My family cant take him out alone for a walk, he will be crying howling and pulling towards home because he either wants me to take him out alone for a walk or together with my Husky. When my family takes him out together with my Husky then its not a problem for him. Every morning when I come downstairs or if I am away for some hours or even a few minutes, he greets me in a humble way, like he hasn't seen me for years. He rarely barks, but he warns me in some situations with a type of short fast heavy howling or with a short fast type of soft air-blow out of his mouth, like for example when he sees a stranger or a strange / unknown object (to him) during a walk, or when someone is standing near our garden, or walking past our garden. He keeps an eye on everything around him. He does very well on training using the positive method with pieces of meat / dried meat as a reward. He only eats raw meat complete as his food. He is 7 1/2 month's old now. Tomorrow I will check his weight he surely weights/feels quite heavy.

His name is Kaiser.

The most recent pictures are the last ones (picture heavy).
