Angel, the German Shepherd

Recommended Posts

We had some awful news today. My sister in laws German Shepherd had to go to rainbow bridge. She was only 6.

they originally thought she had a uti so took her to the vets yesterday and they gave her some antibiotics - but through the night she had been being sick and kept trying but without success to pee and she just wasn't right. They took her back and the vets did an X-ray, and found a large mass in and around her bladder, at which point they referred her to a specialist. They took her this afternoon, where they took a biopsy and it turned out it was cancer. They would have just removed it and then given her chemo but it would have only prelonged her life for 6months. It would also have been a complicated surgery as it had spread far and wide, including building her a new urethra. We decided it would be kindest to let her go, but we're all heartbroken.

I also have the task of telling Joshua. Eika aside, Angel was his best mate. She was an amazing dog with kids and I just can't imagine how he's going to react when I tell him. I am going to say that Angel has gone up to the sky as a star to be with Molly and Goldie (dogs we have lost since he was born, not that he will necessarily remember them) and I'll pick the star closest to the moon so he can always find her. Think that's the North Star but anyway...

run free Angel, we all love you lots x

So we told Josh this afternoon, I told him then took him outside to find her star, he cried quite a bit and said how much he was going to miss her. He calmed down and played the play station for a bit and had some dinner. Then before bed he started to get upset again and really cried and we couldn't get him to calm down. Kept saying he was going to miss her and he loves her. Just totally heartbreaking. Didn't manage to get him to sleep until about 9pm in the end. We're going over to the in laws for dinner tomorrow. It's going to be hard, but we have to do it or we never will!

i saw a German shepherd when I was coming out of tesco earlier and had tears rolling down my cheeks on the way to the car. God this is harder than I ever thought :'o(
