Omg my first big debate sort of like post. Before we start: Please respect other peoples opinions and their entitlement of voting for other parties and other benefit plans. No one here is being asked to state which party they vote for, and therefore I can only ask that people restrain themselves from offending anyone that may vote for a different party. I'm sure everyone here will have caught a glimpse at some of the changes that the new Conservative party are making and are aware of the coalition agreement between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats which has upset a lot of students that voted for Liberal Democrats, on accou…

I was so annoyed at my insurance renewal premium being double the amount of the previous year that I wrote to my local MP. I never expected to hear anything from him (Jack Straw) but have been very surprised to have received a couple of replies from him. I unfortunately live in a postcode area that has seen a sharp rise in cash for crash scams which has a dramatic affect on the insurance premiums of law abiding citizens. The following is a link to the newspaper article written by Jack Straw http://www.lancashir...s/#commentsList The morale of the story is to always shop around for car insurance. I would also suggest contacting…

I was disgusted when I read the following article in the local paper: Meerkats and monkeys on sale in Blackburn pet store MONKEYS and meerkats have gone on sale at East Lancashire's largest pet store  prompting a storm of protest from animal rights campaigners. One animal protection group said selling the wild animals was 'cruel' and another group said it deplored the actions of Blackburn-based Aquamania. Craig Redmond, of the Captive Animals Protection Society said: "They are such social animals and have specialist needs." And he added that meerkats were burrowing creatures and were likely to 'trash y…

Florence, Arizona - Her name was Target and she was a hero. The dog, featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show", was hailed a hero after saving her owner and other soldiers from a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. Today, she was accidentally killed by a staff member at the Pinal County Animal Care and Control in Arizona. Target had gone missing from her owner, Sgt. Terry Young's, yard on Thursday. Target was picked up by an animal control officer on Friday. Young located his missing dog on the shelter's website Friday night. Tragically, he assumed that the shelter was closed through the weekend - he didn't realize that the shelter operated on limited hours on…

They told me the big black Lab's name was Reggie as I looked at him lying in his pen. The shelter was clean, no-kill, and the people really friendly. I'd only been in the area for six months, but everywhere I went in the small college town, people were welcoming and open. Everyone waves when you pass them on the street. But something was still missing as I attempted to settle into my new life here, and I thought a dog couldn't hurt. Give me someone to talk to. And I had just seen Reggie's advertisement on the local news. The shelter said they had received numerous calls right after, but they said the people who had come down to see him just didn't look like "L…

MIRACLE pup Kenny was the only survivor when firebugs torched kennels - and killed SEVENTEEN other dogs. Rescuers heard the tiny Bichon Frise whimpering and dragged him to safety as he cowered from the smoke and flames in the blazing farm building. One-year-old Kenny's hair was badly burnt on his face and legs, but vets say he will make a full recovery. Owner Shane Coughlan, 26, said: "I arrived to see our stables and kennels on fire. "I set the horses free and then went to the kennels. "I thought it was hopeless. "I felt like crying but I managed to pull one dog to safety and that was lit…

omg I saw this and could't believe it....in short in 2008 a guy shot 2 huskies continuously total of 9 shots (it was caught on video and few witnessed it....Both dogs survived , one lost an eye).... don't want to post the links due to the fact both have graphic video.... Doubt anything will happen to him..he claims the dogs were harassing a calf...but it wasn't his land and to me doesn't make sense why he had to shoot so many times... ----------------------------------- A November 12th judge’s decision has a trial date now pending in the criminal case against Christopher Comins - a trial is currently scheduled to begin o…

TROUTDALE, Ore. – A Troutdale man faces felony charges for allegedly trapping and killing a neighbor’s dog. David Shonk told KGW that a young Siberian Husky, named Yukon killed 30 of his chickens more than a year ago. He said he confronted the dog’s owner and called Animal Control, but nothing was done. Then, he said the dog kept wandering back to his property and so he set a foot trap, caught the dog, shot it and then buried it. “After repeated incidents I thought it was necessary for me to protect my property and my right to grow food for my family,†he said. Ron Barber, who lives next to t…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11671164 The government is considering allowing prisoners to vote, five years after a European Court of Human Rights ruling, the BBC understands. Ministers have been advised that continuing to resist the ruling would lead to costly compensation payouts. In 2005 the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled the UK's ban on inmates voting was unlawful. But a Cabinet Office spokesman said no decision had been made about the move. He said: "The government has been actively considering this issue over the summer. This work is continuing. There are a number of court cases under way on this issue tha…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11665813 Smokers working at a district council must clock out when they nip outside for a fag. So is it fair that employees who smoke do it in their own time? They're a familiar sight in British towns and cities, huddled at the foot of office blocks under wisps of smoke. These are the outsiders, both figuratively and literally, who grab a few minutes away from their desk or the shop floor to have a cigarette. The number of pavement puffers swelled with the demise of the office smoking room when legislation in Scotland in 2006 and the rest of the UK a year later spelt the end of smoking in enclo…
