Suffolk County, NY - The wheels of change for animal rights are often slow, but as long as they are moving in a forward motion, there is reason for hope. Law-makers in Suffolk County took bold action this week - action that hopefully will inspire other counties and cities across the nation to make similar changes. On Tuesday, the county unanimously voted to create the nation's first animal abuse registry requiring people convicted of cruelty to animals to register or face jail time and fines. Supporters of the registry recognize that animal abusers are frequently more than a menace to animals, they are also a danger to people. It has long been known …

Staff at Manchester Dogs Home said visitors would "fall in love" with the dog, believed to be about two years old, but be put off when they learned of its sexuality. Now surgeons have transformed the dog by removing her male organs and turning her into a bitch. Lisa Graham, 35, manager at the home, said: ''People would see her and were quite attracted. When we explained the condition she had and that she would have…

Hearing about this just makes me worried for my dogs. Lots of huskies go missing in Australia as they are such a beautiful breed. I hope the puppies get returned but that seems unlikely so i just pray that they are safe and getting treated nicely. http://www.qt.com.au...-angers-family/ http://video.au.msn....ng-news/xo4nkfk

A Gardner woman has been reunited with her Siberian husky mix almost four years after she lost contact with her beloved dog. Dana Klint of Gardner was reunited with 15-year-old Faith over the weekend thanks to the Pet Connection, a no-kill animal shelter in Mission. She saw photos of the dog, nicknamed “Medora,†online on Saturday and reclaimed her Sunday, she said. Klint had given up hope of ever seeing Faith again. She lost contact with the dog after leaving her with an ex-boyfriend about four years ago and hadn’t seen the animal in two years. “I was in tears when I found it was really her,†Klint s…

This story can be found by clicking here: Woman with crowbar shreds stanford profs porn My hunny recently shared his support of this woman only to be met with a question as to whether or not he thought that ALL art that people didn't like ought to be destroyed. My retort was of course...you're putting sexually explicit images in a place where schools take children on field trips. Whether or not it's religiously offensive I'm trying to ignore at this juncture in time, but the general support of this professor makes me wonder alot. Is our educational system sabatoging the development of basic morals in children? How did we come to …

HORMONE HITCH The rising popularity of topical hormone treatments for people, particularly menopausal women, is having unintended medical consequences for users' pets, according to the Veterinary Information News Service. Spayed dogs and young female puppies are showing up at veterinarians with markedly swollen vulvas, as if they were in heat. Male dogs are turning up with enlarged mammary glands. Fur loss is common in both genders. The phenomenon frequently stumps veterinarians. Sometimes patients go undiagnosed for weeks or months because vets don't recognize the connection. Medical doctors don't typically know what's going on or why, or warn patie…

I just found this on www.edie.net A pet dog was killed after getting trapped in an illegal set up to catch endangered eels. The long barrel-like fyke net, which is commonly used to catch eels, had been placed illegally in a small tributary of the River Hayle, near St Ives, Cornwall. The net was set without authorisation and no guards, which are legally required to prevent animals like otters getting caught up. It is thought the dog, which drowned before its owners could reach it, was attracted by dead rabbit bait. Fyke nets are commonly used to catch eels but can only be used if they are licensed by the Environmen…

I was reading the newspaper today and a local lady is going to court for feeding wild Black Bears on her property. Here's the story: The game wardens busted her for feeding bears on her 14-Acre property. Before getting busted, she would leave food out for the skinny bears to help them survive through the wild and Hibernation, she would also put out treats for them to find in her forest, such as honey and peanut butter. Even natural vitamins to help the older bears with muscle and bone problems. The game wardens say it's illegal because the bears are not doing what wild bears do and depend on her food. If they don't find food at her place …
