Over the past few months (OK, since the airing of Pedigree Dogs Exposed) debate has raged about the role dog breeders have played in creating a mess of some much loved, but sadly debilitated dog breeds. There have been accusations of broad brush labelling of all breeders and many have felt personally slighted by the vitriol born of shock expressed by many viewers of Jemima Harrisons documentary. So, we must ask: are dog breeders all evil villains? At the risk of over simplifying, no. No, all breeders are not evil villains. The US economy shrank at an annualised rate of 0.3% between July and September, according to figures from the Commerce Department. The gross domestic product (GDP) figures were better than expected, although they show the sharpest contraction of the economy since 2001. Russell Brand has resigned from his Radio 2 programme following prank calls he made with Jonathan Ross to actor Andrew Sachs. It follows a public apology from Ross over his "juvenile and thoughtless remarks" in the calls. Earlier, it was announced the pair would be suspended and all their shows taken off air until the BBC has investigated the calls made on Radio 2. Fawlty Towers actor Sachs, 78, said he had "respect" for Brand's decision. The BBC's director general has met the corporation's governing body to discuss lewd phone calls made on comic Russell Brand's Radio 2 show. Mark Thompson briefed the BBC Trust on a preliminary inquiry into how the calls made with Jonathan Ross to actor Andrew Sachs came to be broadcast.
