Hey everyone,

newbie to the site and thought I’d show off my adorable 7 month old husky Logan.

My boyfriends and I are first time husky owners and I can honestly say we have never regretted a second of it 😍😁

Welcome to that Pack, I used to live out near Dalmally Oban Loch Awe area, so you in a nice part of the world.

I noticed in one of your pictures that you had your Boy OFF LEAD, Please stop this as huskys are HIGH prey drive dogs and although a few people say you can off lead them, they are wrong as they will take off  and will kill smallanimals cats etc worse sheep and get run over or lost.

you just have to google husky kills sheep to see how often it happens last year there was a case where over 100 sheep were hurt and killed by a husky in england. Wrose you husky is getting to the age where the Husky breed  behaviour will kick in (around 8 monhs of age) and this is the danger time as they will suddenly refuse to isten

Thanks for all the welcomes people 😁

PAulG Thanks for the advice,  we only let him off lead in fully fenced in areas like the park we took that picture in. I read so many horror stories before getting a husky I’d be too scared to let him off if he had any way of getting out .

this is a topic I found hard to imbed in my boyfriends head at the start as he is very laid back and kept saying he’ll be fine.

Luckily he is now on side after Logan escaped from the garden and put us into panic mode. Luckily a neighbour found him before he got into any trouble or hurt!

Welcome! Handsome looking boy there!

Loads of support on here. Husky Camp in May? 12-19 @ Ty Mawr Camping : Tents, caravans, motorhomes, static ones ( some pet friendly) to rent.

EHU; Showers & loos.

Long walks, off lead, pitstops ++, drinkholes++, fun'n'games, good evengings round the campfire... and great company.

Late brekky mornings.. lazy starts or ... do your own thing.

Marc /Duncan / anyone! can tell you.

And: www.successdogs.com for you - free e-book too. Worth starting asap...

Extreme intelligence, subterfuge, outwitting you, opportunists, bossiness/dominance. And houdinis .. this breed is tops.

They are now THE most abandoned breed through poor research and lack of training.

But also the most rewarding with the right (& positive reward re-enforcement) guidance and training.

If you don't know already.. beware :

● never off-lead after 7-8 months unless in secure 6' - 7' fenced area...

● they also have lousy recall (in 97% of this breed)...

● they're prey drive is high and 3,500 yrs genetics give them nomadic tendencies...

Be safe, not sorry [emoji8][emoji847]

oh.. and fur fur fur when they blow ... anytime after six months or temp changes...[emoji848] 🤣 [emoji44] (never shave a husky lol)

Wouldn't change anything with my two .... (strangling or gagging maybe (occasionally) but their love wins over always). [emoji847]

Below : various - Husky Camp last year.. .. yes & no foods, grooming gear,

(what my food choice is for mine. The raw wet Vacpacs are fab for dry storage ie, camping!)

TJ Wolf on fb & Dave Lowe have good Intel on trng/dietary tips too.

Whoo.. . That was lucky... I've mentioned this off lead thing again.. but you're one of only a few rare peeps who have researched.. keep doing it xxx ie,
Nome village husky run
Ten facts on Huskies..
Kefir for dogs & you
ACC..
Double coated dogs and how/why/purpose
Coconut oil - this IS good.. in moderate amounts.. but do start pea size for your woof; increase to half teaspoon over 10 to 14 days esp for us too.. or the tuns ... slightly lower in [bad] saturated fats BUT way higher in HDL fats which REMOVE the bad fats (on tv last night 'Trust Me I'm a Doctor').
Unique attributes /purpose to Huskies: Google..
Head, eyes, ears, muzzle, coat, leg circulation, fur/paws, retractable claws, tail.. stamina, cautions in heat/humidity/extreme cold (ie adaptation/acclimatising to these), dietary habits way back but not so now...digestion & the still not understood 'reserve energy 'switch' that allows them to run and run and in survival mode... on the Yukon Quest and Iditarod runs. (Rob & Louise Cooke). Happy reading!

Welcome to the best Husky forum in the UK.    Really pleased you did your research  -  very few do   -    I am my husky's fourth owner and he was still a young pup when I got him just over two years ago.   If you have a question there are lots of really experienced husky owners here all willing to help.
