I've started Gunnar with some training and I'm going to get him a harness soon. I think I have one picked out, but what else do I need to get him when we actually start mushing? I know I will need a scooter, (we don't get very much snow around here except in winter, and it's usually just a light snow) does anyone have any recommendations on where to get one? (Preferably online). And any tips on mushing would be appreciated. ???? Also, if anyone uses the tapatalk app on an iPad or phone or something, how do I get my feed to be just this forum? All that is on mine is like sports and other stuff I don't care about. Thanks! Gunnar and Taylor

I enrolled Link in a 6wk program to help us refresh the basics and at the end of the course we will take the Canine Good Citizen test The first class she went over our sit, down, stay, and recall. Inside the training room, Link excelled at all except stay. So I took him to a local park to work on his stay.. and he acted like its the easiest thing in the world! I could walk circles around him, run across the park, etc, and he didnt budge until I gave the "OK". Silly Link... I'll be refreshing him every day but lets hope he shows off his awesome stay next class.

Ok so Ghost is about a year and a half, and has slept in her crate, in our room, since we got her at 8 weeks. If she couldn't see us, she'd howl and keep the whole family up all night. When we leave, if she can escape from her crate, she will. We are getting a new pup in the next couple months (the litter is due sometime next week), and once he's here, our hope is to have both dogs sleep in the laundry room instead of in our room (it's a decent sized room, with a tile floor.) I'm looking for advice on a couple points: 1) Do we start to get Ghost used to it now, or wait till the pup is here and have both of them start in the laundry room? 2) Since it's a new situatio…

Well today Kato is going for a long ride to austin, TX (6.5 hours). He is usually good in the vehicle but he hasn't been on a ride that long since we got him when he was 8 weeks old and he was sleeping the whole time. He has been at the dog daycare for 6 hours now, running around with the other dogs in a big open field. So hopefully he just falls right asleep when we start the trip =].

These two huskies are 4months old now. One still pees in her kennel often, the other hardly ever. But these two seem to STILL want to get me up two times a night. I think a lot of times its to drink water which I don't give them, but if I take them out the always pee even if it's a little! They are wearing me out with this waking me up, but I'm afraid that one will pee in her kennel for sure if I don't. I would think at 4 months at night anyway that they would already just be getting me up once a night. I feel like I have two newborn babies lol.... It's just frustrating and I'm staying tired. Anyone have any insight to this? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

hi, i recently bought a three month old husky puppy. 4 days ago to be specific. the problem is that she goes mental when she's left alone, i live alone in an apartment and i have to be abscent 6 hours everyday. when i'm home i play with her and i walk her 2 hours daily but when i leave she gets mad, like really mad, the first day she literally destroyed every posession i had in the room i left her in, i had to empty a whole room to leave her in the next day and when i got back i saw marks of her claws on every wall and the door bottom was chewed and peed on. i got so worried that i called in sick yesterday and today and decided to buy her a kennel so that she will get us…

I liked this and thought I would share. I agree with almost all of them except "won't create separation anxiety". I think that is something that can't be guaranteed. I've heard of lots of new pups who leave their mum and have SA to varying degrees. But other than that I thought it was pretty accurate.

Had my boy 2 years now he's fine and did all the usual naughty puppy things which is understandable. I've had my girl 6 months and she's been fine also. She is around 20 months old and is lovely. However recently she's been chewing my wallpaper off and nibbling at the skirting boards! I'll come home from work and there will be wallpaper on the floor. She even does it when I'm in sat right next to her. She hasn't done it since she moved in with me 6 months ago so why the naughty behaviour all of a sudden? Teenage years maybe?

OMG I thought Akira was doing better with her peeing and pooping in her kennel, especially since we got rid of the UTI she had. I even put her in a smaller kennel to see if that would work so maybe she wouldn't have enough room to pee and poop in there and she would just be in the mess so much more if there wasn't room to love around. Well, it has NOT worked. Idk what to do with her she's almost 4 months old. My husband put her in her kennel yesterday after they had been outside pottying and had time to play, brought her inside and kenneled her up and she was only in there 45 minutes before and she didn't even bark and he went to let them out and she dedicated in there. S…

Hi, So Astra (my 9 month rescue girl) got her crate yesterday and at first we kept it in the dining room (she was very reluctant to go in it there), so we moved it to our bedroom and she voluntarily now sleeps in the crate with the door open (havent shut the door open)... is this the right thing to do to get her to associate with her happy place? When is the right time to start shutting the door and leaving the room periodically etc? Can anyone give me some step by step tips to crate training? I don't want to move to fast and have her associate it with bad things but I also need to have her crate trained happily asap so that we can have lives and pop out and not always h…

Hi all, We are getting our crate to begin training our sibe tomorrow. She is 9 months old and we rescued her from the local shelter. Astra suffers from massive separation anxiety from me, the alpha. Whether I go to toilet, go outside in the garden without her, or simply go out with my fiance, she cries (even though our father in law is sometimes home).... Basically, we are hoping crate training her will stop her pacing around the house relentlesly as she will have her "den" to relax in, once she gets the hang of it... (we hope!), also we are hoping it potty trains her a bit more seeing as she is still having some accidents in the house (mainly when I leave and she suffer…

Hi all, New to this forum in posting, but I have found it very informative otherwise. We just rescued a 9 month old (approximate what the shelter/vet told us) female siberian husky we have named Astra. She was very timid at the shelter, but so soon at home she has opened up and now follows me around the house, my fiance and his father not so much though. She isn't potty trained and has made a couple of accidents in the house before I had time to spot her, each time I took her outside, but these accidents even occurred AFTER a 20-30 min walk (walk times are only so short because she just got spayed on Monday and we got told to not exercise her lots while it's healing the …

Hello everyone! My pup's name is Anzu and I got him from a shelter about 3 or almost 4 months ago and he's almost 2 years old. Long story short, turns out he's a much more high energy than we were lead to believe and I've been trying to find ways to keep him occupied. I've switched out toys so he doesn't get bored of them, and hopefully can start training again soon, but I just don't personally have the stamina for more than 2-3 hours of walking every day. He seems to get tired but after a 5 minute break is just ready to go again haha, any tips on tiring him out? (I can't do doggie daycare because he's dog aggressive, though as soon as I'm able we're going to do sociali…

Several months ago, I adopted a 3-year old husky from the shelter. She's surprisingly well-behaved, isn't aggressive, and generally responds well to commands. I was pleasantly surprised considering she was already an adult but took to me quickly. We started training with basic obedience (sit, down, come, stay) and she picked up quickly. Shake (right/left) and crawl, she learned with little difficulty, and so we move onto "rollover". It took awhile, but she finally got it and would respond the majority of the time to the command. One day, she suddenly lost interest in training. I'd start with "sit" and "down" to lead her into "rollover", but even upon the "sit" com…

I've been toying with the idea of doing some kind of sledding activity with Freya. She loves to run (like most huskies) and I feel like she'd love sledding, so I looked around online and came across Bike Joring and something called Husky Scootering (maybe the wrong name for it).. They both looked amazing and kinda like a modern version of dog sledding, but since the scooters are hella expensive, I decided on Bike Joring. Only problem is I've got no idea how you go about training a husky how to do it. Apparently you need commands like 'gee' and 'haw' and all this, does anyone do Bike Joring or sledding or anything? How do you go about teaching your dogs the commands…

Have any of you ever put two dogs in the same crate? They're 3 months now and sometimes Akira still wants to pee in the kennel. I'm wondering if I put two in one kennel if that might keep her from doing it? Just a thought! Any feedback would be great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi All, It has been a while, hope all is well. If you remember Molly, she has turned into a matured fine young lady (almost 17months old) with wonderful characters. Love her even more everyday. I am writing this post concerning one of Molly's brother, Kaya. Some of you might remember, we fostered Molly's mom from the shelter and she delivered 11 beautiul puppies in our home. We took care of mom and the 11 pups for almost 7 weeks and all of them went to new homes, all but Molly stayed with us. We keep in touch through facebook clsoed group and support each other with raising the pup and sharing the joy. Fast forward to when puppies were around 7/8 months old, all but on…

Hi Guys. I hope this is in the right area. We are moving home in a few weeks and we want to make it as less stressful on Rip as possible. Its only a few minutes away from where we live now but he has never experienced a new home before. Is there anything we can do to make it as less stressful for him as possible. We are moving from my fiancés parents where he has full roam of the garden to a 2 bedroom flat, so I know that things like him letting me when he needs the toilet etc are going to be enforced. He is very good now toilet training wise and I recognise the signs in regards to knowing when he needs to go. But I am looking for any tips or ideas to help keep him cal…

Hi everyone, I'm after some help. I have an eight month old husky boy called Tikaani. I take him to puppy classes every week to help with his obedience and train him a little everyday. Recently I've been finding that training is becoming, shall we say, a little over stimulating. We train for around 20mins and in that time he is good as gold (for the most part) however towards the end he starts to get incredibly bitey. He ignores toys and will charge and bite my arm. I'm not sure how to deal with this, I've been told to put him in a crate or quiet room with something to chew on to calm him, BUT (and this may be where my inexperience comes into practice) would this not be r…

Hey guys so I'm starting notice that Ghost is growing more and more protective and I'm wondering if it's something i should check or if i should just let him be the way he is. When I started wanting a husky a few years ago I did a lot of research about the breed and I was ready for whatever. Fortunately Ghost has been a perfect dog (with the exception of leash walking though he's doing better). but nothing i researched said anything about being protective. The thing is he's fine with strangers until they start talking to me or my daughter, or looking at us, or walking towards us. Then he sits down and puts his ears back and hunches, and he makes this really scary low…

Well I though I had Akiras issues with going potty in her cage figured out. She hasn't popped thank goodness but she has started peeing. Idk what's going on with her. I DO know I think she's trying to be the alpha over me. She's thinking she's controlling me and that can't happen. So I guess I will resort to feeding her in her kennel. This being the last resort I guess. The way she acted yesterday was a little different. It was like I'll show you I'll keep stealing Kodas food and peen in the house AND my kennel. Oh my. Any suggestions or thoughts?? I've never had such a stubborn husky. Wow!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So since day one, when we brought Atlas home, he's been a butt. He growls and strikes flesh ripping bites when picked up at whatever body part he could grab, he'll randomly come snap at our faces with the same force as well. We've been very firm with him and we were hoping with consistency it would get better. It's been 3 weeks and he's shown no sign of improvement, it's actually gotten worse. He doesn't even teeth like a normal puppy would, if he even approaches us it's only to bite. He's never shown us affection either. We're not sure which approach to take anymore .. Vet told us to bring out the newspaper, but I'm not sure that's the best idea. We've been keeping a pa…

Hi All Right, Coco-Bear is going to be a year old on the 2nd September. She is great in the house now as when we are out she has an enormous crate which she goes in and is very happy, she's in it at night too and apart from waking up at about 5am everyday everything is perfect! My problem is when we go out for a walk, I have tried everything I can think of but she just manages to escape from harnesses, collars and even headcollars!! The latest being a canny collar, she just pulls away and flips about and she's out of it! it's making me worried sick as luckily so,far she hasn't gone far as she's met up with a person or another dog, which thankfully have all been love…
