ice
im not going to say much on this just incase the breeder sees this, but we have just had to go and pick our 5 week, yes 5 week old pup up as the breeder felt they were ready to leave. i dont think he has had much if any contact with his mum from 3-4 weeks old, he is so tiny about the same size as ice was at 3-4 weeks old, the conditions they were being kept in was apaling, the first time we went to look at the pups they were 2 weeks old and was clean and all seemed good though and we put a deposit down on him and fell in love. he has been fully weaned now for at least a week but should i still give him some supliment milk? i know this pup shouldnt be away from his mum right now but he hasnt been with his mum for over a week now anyway and was getting no socialisation at all. if i knew the first time i went to see the pup what i know now i would have steared clear :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Laska
Aye it does sound very early to me for it to leave the mother or even to be rehomed. But i look at it this way you have saved a lovely puppy , and you never know what may have happend if you didnt take it. Puppy is in good hands now , maybe if the breeder is registered they should be reported to save other suffering that may happen. Anyway grtz on the new baby i hope you have lots of fun
ice
the pups are kc registered so does that mean the breeder will be registered?
Ice and Cripton
O GOSH, what a retard!!!!! OMG there is no way the poor thing should be away from the litter, i dont understand this at all!! James Wellbeloved is a good food, i dont think he'll need a supplement, a vet check would be good tho! No wonder the pups looked good when they were in their mums care, why on earth would he seperate them. Im sure Ice will socialise him, good luck with him and do let us know how it goes! ISDW
Best of luck with him. Keep on top of worming in a pup that young, when was he last done? He should be done every 2 weeks at this stage, and its really important to do it. Hopefully Ice will help with socialisation, but you have to weigh that up with the danger of Ice bringing any nasties into the house and passing them onto the pup. Is there any way that you could keep them seperated for at least another week, then get the pup to have his first parvo jab at least? I used Royal Canin puppy milk when I was hand rearing my lot, and its brilliant. I was still giving them some in a bowl at that age, ask your vet for advice. Again, best of luck, its awful that he's been taken away from his Mum so young, but he's a lucky pup to have ended up with you, so that he has the best chance of a happy and healthy life. terrysibe
I have to say that a couple of things worry me, 1, its against KC rules to let a puppy go before 8 weeks, 2, you can't name the breeder incase she/he reads this, so is the breeder a member of this forum 3, if people don't know who the breeder is how can we get people to avoid them in the future, If it helps can you pm me the details for our database at SHWA Cheers Terry

Bec
Report the to the Kennel Club - what they have done is against their code of ethics and violates the terms of being a KC registered breeder. It might not do much but its a start. There is no way I'd take a pup at five weeks, I would have run a mile the instant the breeder told me they let them go that young... although I understand how you'd gotten attached What a piece of scum that breeder is! Sqwidge
oh my goodnes...that's just awful. At leats he is safe now and can get the socialisation he needs...remember to take him out and about (not sure of age but i think from 8 weeks should be fine) carried in your arms to get as much experience of the big bad world...will help a great deal. My parents in law had to have a puppy (was going to be dumped by gypsies if people didn't take them) from about 5 weeks old, she was a tiny little thing. Just be careful not to 'over love' him, i know it sounds daft, but make sure he sleeps in his own bed, and has like time-outs/own his own if that makes sense? He will become much more balanced. Molly (PIL pup) was sleeping in the bed, constantly held etc etc...and she's a fine dog, and happy, but has huge separation anxiety issues and is a bit pathetic! davidjk
why are people such idiots, puppies should stay with their litter and mother untill they are 12 weeks old, thatw ay they learn sociable behaviour(bit inhibition etc), and they get the best start in life i wouldnt expect them to be weaned untill at least 6 weeks. grrr makes me mad as hell

Then they can have their vaccinations and start getting out into the world during their fear period. I wouldn't like to be the mother dog that still has pups suckling on her with those sharp puppy teeth at 6 weeks! 3 weeks is usually when the weaning starts, and shouldn't take more than a week to achieve. ice
the pup now has the runs real bad, its like water i have bought some powdered milk to start giving him once or twice a day as he really is tiny. i have got him a vets appointment for monday afternoon but im worried about him now having the runs is there anything else i can do?
ISDW
Make sure that he doesn't get dehydrated, it can be lethal when they're that small. If you can't get to the vets tomorrow (I would try though if you can) go to a chemist and get some diarylte and give him some of that in water, to help him. Live yoghurt would also probably be good. The normal thing for diarrhoea would be to starve the dog for 24 hours, then chicken and rice, but a dog this young can't afford not to eat, so keep trying the food. What powdered milk have you got? Is he on the same food that the breeder had him on? And, what about worming, how long ago was he done? Would you feel confident enough to take his temperature? ice
the milk is lactol, its in a tin, im making it up at 3 scoops then fill the bowl up with water. he was wormed yesterday just before we left with him, i phoned my vets today and the earlyest appointment they had was monday afternoon. i dont have anything here to take his temperature with im affraid. he is drinking plenty of water and still eating 4 times a day now instead of the one time a day the breader was feeding him grrrr im just so mad at the min.
