Sarah Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 What different commands do you use with your dog? I've taught Kimba the basic sit, stay, down etc but just wondered what other people use?? Quote
laura_3173 Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 i am the same with lex taught him sit, down, stay, paw, fetch (although he never gives it back), we are working on roll over at the moment he goes ont his back but doesn't quite go over not sure whether he is afraid to go all the way over! lol he is as daft as a brush but intelligent in other ways! Quote
lesley Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 kendra does the above to apart from roll over but when she is sitting and you ask for her paw she is so funny she cant stay sitting while she gives it to you she has to stand up then tilts her head to the side she so so cute x Quote

dog walker Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 i tend to use "leave it alone!!" a lot lol Quote
Sarah Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 lol yep, have used that one a HELL of a lot lol Quote
siberian_wolf Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 my 3 now the basic commands (Sit, Lie Down, Wait/Stay, No) but they will only show them off when they want too not when you want them too!Luckily Marley and Gizmo are both fast learners and went really well with Clicker training and then there was Bandit who would do it but he can't hold the command for long but he learned from watching Marley and Gizmo. They also know when to come back when we go to the New Forest but that wouldn't be what I call a command but more a case of distracting their attention to us! Quote
PawPrints Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 NO tends to be a good one for me should have called him that lol, he cant get his head round stay but is good with the other basic ones Quote
Austinville Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 Bo learned hand signals quicker than vocal commands. At the time, I didn't understand why, but now assume that they challenged him more than vocal commands. He had to actually figure out what each signal meant. He was a very quick at learning new tasks with the hand signals. We used vocal commands for when he learned to speak -- both loudly and softly, and would differentiate between the two when asked ("That hurts my ears, Buddy. Speak soft" or "I can't quite hear you") He also rolled over and shook hands. He no longer rolls over - it hurts his hips now. He never played with toys, probably because of my rat terrier who was a nasty little girl and 'beat him up' if he touched her stuff! Poor boy. Quote
jules dief taz tor Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 argh no, ffs and leave, are the ones we r workin on at the minute Quote
Alex T Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 I will hopefully be training ours the basic - sit, lie, stay, paw, fetch - to begin with! But I am looking into sledging with her when she's older - so theres another load of instructions she will need to know! Quote
laura_3173 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 good look with fetch Lex is 7 months old and still doesn't know fetch! lol Quote
Alex T Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 She loves playing with the ball, so every time she chases it around i just make sure i say "Isis Fetch" - but whether she will actually do it when i want her to is another question! Quote
Sarah Posted December 28, 2008 Author Report Posted December 28, 2008 lol, i tried teaching kimba fetch but he was too clever for me - i always had to fetch it myself, have now come to the conclusion that huskies are not capable of "fetching" Has anyone managed to get their husky to fetch on command??? Quote
laura_3173 Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 No way Lex looks at me as if to say you through it you lazy cow you fetch it!! lol or he will run after it then go and bury it lol Quote
sleeptalker Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 mine know the usual, sit, down, paw. reno will 'high five' with his paw as well. stop is fairly effective when they are excited and wait when we are out, but off lead is a different matter and as for fetching or playing with anything when we are out..... forget it. some initial interest, may pick it up but thats about it, glad to read that mine arn't the only ones not interested in play when out, Quote
pr1ngles Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 aubrey is the master of "SIT" but only for 3 seconds... Quote
raindog Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 lol, i tried teaching kimba fetch but he was too clever for me - i always had to fetch it myself, have now come to the conclusion that huskies are not capable of "fetching" Has anyone managed to get their husky to fetch on command??? I always tell people that huskies are too clever for "fetch." They will get the ball the first time, but the second time you throw it they'll either eat the ball, or just look at you with that old-fashioned expression which clearly says - "You threw it! You bloody get it!" Mick Quote
Sarah Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 lol yep, that's Kimba all over Quote
infinitykate Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Well, Finn is only about 9 weeks old, but we are learning "Sit, Down, Paw, Wait, Bring it back, Let's go, off, and no, No, NO!" She actually does very well with Sit, but we are teaching it on the hand signal more than the vocal command because she seems to respond better. Anyone have any tips on getting her to respond to her name? She doesn't even look up when I say it. lol. Quote
Sarah Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 NO....def a good one to teach lol lol She will learn her name very soon, try saying Finn Come and show her a treat, if she's food driven she'll pick it up really quickly Quote
