This is the ultimate question when it comes to the Siberian. Everyone has their own opinion and approach to feeding. I've heard very good things about feeding raw and several of our members do it with great results. I can honestly say I wish I'd have considered raw when he was younger, but I didn't know much about it until a couple years ago.

I personally feed Taste of the Wild. It's grain-free, which was important to me. I get much less dog waste in the yard than those who feed brands with filler in them. Since it is a higher protein food, and Bo is old (14 1/2 yrs) and is less active, I keep watch for hot spots and must also keep an eye on his weight for the same reason.

I would talk with your breeder and also check out the posts on this site where discussions on feeding have taken place. Heres one: http://www.husky-owners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1625

it all depends on the individual as well. I feed mine burns kibble and also raw to give them a variety and in case i don't get chance to get raw food i can always fall back on the kibble luckily they are ok with having 2 diff types of food but some won't work so well with it.

One thing i will say is if you do ever change their food, keep them on it for a good few weeks and don't chop and change every week as they won't be able to get used to it and will end up not being able to absorb their food properly.

Bet you can't wait until 12th may now! :)

totally grain free dog food is EXTREMELY expensive in the UK. The main brands like Taste of the Wild has to be imported and it costs about 50 for a 15kg bag.

It really very much depends on the dogs. I have two dogs that seem to be completely polar opposites when it comes to food. They are getting fed on two different brands because one food makes one dog puke and the other food gives the other dog runny poos.

Personally I think Hill's is extremely over prices for what it is. Pets at Home have a great own brand called "Wainrights Dog's Best Friend" which is a lot cheaper but really good quailty. I feed the salmon and potato becuase he has a rice intollerance. The other dog is getting fed CSJ SP-21 Salmon.

i agree with sarah its all down to the individual, depends on what you feel comfortable with, we all have our own preferences as long as you consult with the breeder before adapting there diets. Plenty of background research before making any radical changes i would suggest :)

If your 2 both do well on the Hills then I would keep them on that.

I feed my boys on barf as I tried different dry feeds and my boys would either end up with the runs or they would refuse to eat it.

If you were looking into the barf diet I would do your research about it first as there is alot to think about and take in. Its definately not as easy as it may sound as you will have to think about how much, how often, what supplments, when to give the supplements, how much supplments, etc etc

However, there is alot of information available and some good books to looks for (which you can get from amazon) is "give your dog a bone" and "Grow your pup with bones" by Ian Billinghurst

also I used these site to help me out aswell:

http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm

http://ukbarfclub.co.uk/

and also other husky owners on here :D

a few other dry foods which other husky owners feed are:

James Well Beloved: http://www.wellbeloved.com/

Burns: http://www.burnspet.co.uk/

Wainwrights dog food: http://www.petsathome.com/find/category-is-2+dog/brand-is-wainwrights

a few other good diets which could be worth a look is:

Natures Menu (some of their feeds are also good one if you feed barf too): http://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/

Nature Diet: http://www.naturediet.co.uk/

Nature's Harvest: http://www.natures-harvest.org/

As I already mentioned, I would keep them on the hill's if thats what they get along well with. Sibes have a very sensitive stomach and changing the diet too often can cause more problems so its best to try and keep them on the same diet. If you do change the diet read about each one first and compare feeds before buying it.

I feed a raw diet and two of my dogs do very well on it. Feed raw is always my preference.

However one of my dogs has a red meat intolerance so I feed her on a super premium dried food called Artemis (don't think it is available in the UK). The version I feed has a very minimal grain content, but you can also get one that is completely grain free.

we're on Royal Canin at the moment...and i will be changing to a different food once we have finished this bag (she's not particularly keen on it now....oh yes, she waited to do this AFTER we bought a HUGE bag..."%"%"^"%"%9ndsgln!!)

Not sure which yet....so i will be keeing an eye on this thread!

Remember, if you do change food to do it gradually...

We moved back to Ireland from England 2 years ago, and I really miss the wide range of dog food available over there. We do drive up to Northern Ireland every now and then and shop at Jollyes, that Wainwright food sounds interesting though, will have to see if there any Pets At Home up there.

I feed mine Kronch, which is a Danish, salmon based food. I really like it, as do all the dogs, it is available by mail order I think in the UK, I have to get mine delivered to me by a company from Belfast, and the delivery is almost as expensive as the food. I also use it in the kennels, and have never yet had a dog refuse it.

When I got my first sibe, Sky, she was on James Wellbeloved, but she had the runs constantly, we tried different foods and it was only Pedigree Chum that she could eat and have solid poos. I don't like Pedigree, but it worked for her. It is also working at the moment for our nearly 4 month old pup, same story, the only food I've tried with him so far that keeps him solid. Sky is fine now that she's an adult, but as a pup thats what she had to eat.

Sibes hey, those stomachs cause no end of trouble.

All ours are on "Best Choice" - a German food. We have been very impressed with it after changing from Purina Proplan (Our boy Ute is the poster boy for Proplan Performance - http://www.purina-proplan.com/uk/dog/specialPerformance.asp). Best Choice is equally high quality (if not better) and our dogs are thriving on it:
