NINE PUPPIES RESCUED FROM ICY DROWING Dublin SPCA have today issued an appeal to the public to keep all animals safe during the current arctic conditions. Ireland's oldest animal welfare organisation have been receiving calls about horses, dogs and wildlife caught in dangerous situations; many are becoming trapped in the snow, finding themselves unable to reach food or water. In a more sinister development, nine gorgeous puppies were rescued this morning from a group of teens at the canal at Labre Park, Dublin 10. The teenagers were about to drown the bag of puppies in the icy canal but their cruel sport…

The number of pets housed at animal shelters or abandoned over Christmas and the new year has risen sharply, according to UK animal charities. Battersea Dogs and Cats Home said it was unable to cope with numbers of pets arriving and, for the first time, has had to create a waiting list. Charities have said the recession and cold weather are partly to blame. They expect to see more animals being abandoned in the coming months as pets bought for Christmas become expensive. Scott Craddock of Battersea Dogs and Cats home, which has been taking in unwanted animals for some 150 years, said: "This is the first time that we have act…

source As someone like Lance Mackey supports use of illegal drugs (not just for medical purposes), this is an even greater reason to not utilize the cruel Iditarod for teaching in any school system. We are sending our nation’s children the message that not only is animal abuse okay in the name of sport, but drug use as well! Read the comments on the above linked Anchorage Daily News article. You may very well be surprised at how much mushers support illegal drug use.

School! I will hopefully be starting school in the next 2 weeks to get my Veterinary Assistant and Dog Obedience Trainer certificates. I really have always wanted to do this but Im sure you can imagine why getting school loans doesnt appeal to me. I found out yesterday that now the military is giving full scholarships to military spouses here in the USA and that I qualify for $6000.00 to go through portable job certification programs so that I can find work a little (if not alot) easier no matter where my husband is stationed. Animal Behavior College has really great programs that I can use the scholarship for and i was app…

THE RSPCA’s response to the enquiry into pedigree dogs by the Associate Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) has infuriated Kennel Club chairman Ronnie Irving. He called the RSPCA’s report ‘condescending, arrogant and blinkered’, and was incensed that the charity said the KC should be given ‘one last chance’. “(The charity) has virtually ignored the good work done by breed clubs, breeders and the KC over many years,â€Â he said. “After all, we have already gone a long way to achieving 11 of the 14 major recommendations in the society’s own report on this subject. They have virtually ignored …

A man has been found dead in a frozen reservoir after it is thought he jumped in to rescue his dog. Adam Littleford, 43, plunged through the ice at High Rid reservoir near Lostock in Bolton on Monday morning. Passers-by were alerted because of the dog howling beside his abandoned car next to the icy waters. Mountain rescue and underwater search teams saw a hole in the ice and found him a few hours later. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A police spokesman said they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Parents who allow their children alcohol at home may be increasing the chances of future drinking problems, says England's chief medical officer. Sir Liam Donaldson accused some parents of a "laissez-faire" approach and said letting children taste alcohol to ready them for adulthood was "misguided". Evidence showed that this could lead to binge drinking in later life, he said. New official guidance says under-15s should drink no alcohol, with under-17s drinking only under supervision. Legally, parents and carers can give their children alcohol at home from the age of five onwards. 'Middle-class obsession' However…

Its parent company, Globespan, entered administration on Wednesday, with all flights cancelled and 800 jobs going. About 4,500 passengers are stranded - mostly in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Egypt. The Civil Aviation Authority will be repatriating about 1,100. Last year the airline carried more than 1.5m passengers, on 12,000 flights. It operated mainly from Edinburgh, Glasgow Prestwick and Aberdeen, but also flew transatlantic services from other UK cities including Gatwick and Belfast…
