The following may help:

Menu bar is missing

If the menu bar is missing, it is usually because it has been hidden (either by you, a Firefox extension or another program on your computer) or because the file storing your toolbar information has become corruptFirefox is in full screen mode or not the selected application.

Mac OS X

If Firefox is in full screen mode, move the pointer to the top of the screen, and click on the Full Screen icon 1ac02852251f68821c5828d6ae805417-1258684309-723-3.png to restore the Firefox menu to normal size and show the menu bar.

If Firefox is not in Full Screen mode, the menu bar will be visible. The menu bar always includes the Apple icon 7fbbe94f1e8c1f2d1f6ea6dd93c1901d-1266954982-393-1.png and the name of the current program. To see the Firefox menu bar, click inside any Firefox window.

Hidden menu bar

Firefox lets you hide the menu bar to give you more screen space. It's also possible that a Firefox extension or another program on your computer has hidden the menu bar. You can show it again using the mouse and keyboard.

  1. Press Alt on the keyboard and release. The menu bar will appear temporarily.
  2. On the menu bar, click View, go to Toolbars, then select which toolbars you want to see.

Corrupt toolbars and controls

If the file storing your toolbar information has become corrupt, use Firefox's Safe Mode to reset toolbars and controls.

Press Alt on the keyboard and release so that the menu bar will appear temporarily and then follow these steps:

  1. Close down Firefox completely: At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu, and select the Exit menu item.Close down Firefox completely: On the menu bar, click the Firefox menu, and select the Quit Firefox menu item.Close down Firefox completely: At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu, and select the Quit menu item.
  2. In Windows, click Start, open the All Programs list, and navigate to the Mozilla Firefox folder. In the Mozilla Firefox folder, select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode).Hold down the option key, as you start Firefox.Go to your Terminal and run: firefox -safe-mode You may need to specify the Firefox installation path (e.g. /usr/lib/firefox-3.5). Firefox should start up with a Firefox Safe Mode dialog. Note: You can also start Firefox in Safe Mode by clicking Start, selecting Run (or use the Start Search box in Windows 7 and Vista) and then entering the following in the text field: firefox -safe-mode

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears:

  1. Check mark Reset toolbars and controls.
  2. Click Make Changes and Restart to restart Firefox.
