Bec
I got my baby huskamute on sunday, she is 8 weeks old and had her first set of injections with the next in a few weeks. Can she go out for walks yet or not till the second set are done? What has your breeder advised? She should have given you a puppy pack with this sort of info in it. In terms of walks, 8 weeks is far too young to be giving her structured exercise. The general rule is five minutes per month of age, at eight weeks you don't want to be doing anymore than 5-10 minutes MAX when it comes to exercise. Between 8-12 weeks is the crucial period for socialisation, which means you need to expose your puppy to as many positive experiences as possible. A great way to do this is to carry her around with you, walking her too much at this age can seriously damage her joints. And because she isn't yet fully vaccinated you want to make sure you are not taking her anywhere other dogs frequent (like a dog park). Being a crossbreed it makes it hard to know how big she'll grow, most mallie owners and breeders keep exercise pretty limited until 12-18 months; Siberians being a smaller breed take less time to reach physical maturity so they can have more structured exercise at a slightly younger age (8-12 months). Dunc
puppy inoculations should be done at 8 weeks and 10 weeks, then allowed out at 12 weeks.

Chewbacca_&_me
Where do you live? Are you Living in hawaii?? If you do live in hawaii your girl needs to wait for walks until she is 12 to 14 weeks and has had 3 sets of shots. Otherwise she is very likely to get an illness. Parvo is very prevelent in hawaii, so if you live here, this is the reason for waiting.

Bec
We definitely need to be careful where we take our pups before they are fully vaccinated, but you also have to weigh the risk that comes with not adequately socialising your pup. There is only a very short window to socialise your puppy, once a pup is 12 weeks old they are no longer in their prime socialisation period (from 8-12 weeks) and are instead heading into their fear phase. An article by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior on this issue: http://www.avsabonline.org/avsabonline/images/stories/Position_Statements/puppy%20socialization.pdf

We only have 2 in the UK, you see ... didn't realise it was different over the other side of the pond (but then again, never thought about it!) Aren't we lucky we can call on each others experiences, etc?!
