ANNOUNCE - Spam user prevention

Spam user prevention

In a bid to prevent problems from further spamming users and ensure that we can pick up on them even faster than we can do so already I've now added the following automated rules to the forum.

  1. When a member registers, he/she is put in the registered members usergroup. Users of this group are promoted to registered users+ automatically (within 10 mins of posting) once they have done a single post. All permissions for this group are as they are at the moment for everyone.

  2. The registered users group (anyone with no posts) will have no access to the members listing, people profiles, and will only be able to store a maximum of 5 pms, of which they will have to post 1 at a time. They will also have no access to who online, email member or social groups. They will be unable to add anything to the calender, or post comments on anything currently in there.

What this means basically is that everything remains the same as it is now for the members who use the forum, however for those who register and never post they will not be able to spam us with silly pms, emails and the likes as they have no access to do so.

What will happen eventually (when I get around to it) with the pm system, is that full access will be restored to 0 posters, however they will only be able to pm staff members before they have posted.

Memberlist and user profiles are now unavailble to anyone who is not logged into the forum also, so if you are used to viewing peoples profile comments etc when you are not logged in, unfortunatly you will be unable to do this anymore and will have to log onto the forum.

Hopefully this should solve some of the spam issues we have had over the past week.

That Dunc has all the good ideas! But it takes a real ADMIN to implement them. Will be adding rep to both.
