Olympia Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 In addition to the raw chicken necks, I feed Venison necks, Buffalo knuckles, and marrow bones! Quote

Bec Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 We feed a variety of RMBs including: - chicken wings, frames and necks - turkey wings and necks - lamb forequarters, necks, shanks, flaps - beef off cuts There is so much out there that you can look at feeding. You can also add some natural yoghurt or sardines into her diet, or mix some in with her kibble. Quote
siberian_wolf Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Mine mainly get chicken wings, necks and legs at the moment but they also have beef ribs, breast of lamb, pork hocks (also known as gammon hocks - but beware as its a very salty meat so feed in small portions) and when the butcher gets some in the will be getting venison legs too. Sarah Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 oh yes vennison ears - mine love those! Quote
Lucy Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Best to start off with chicken necks or wings i'd say..... Bones wise ours also have lamb ribs which are great takes them a while to get through them, and also turkey wings ours also have minced beef, minved turkey and course minced chicken (which has bones in it, might also be good to start off on!) we get ours from specialist pet food supplier! MyMukki Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Our local butcher is a seasonal source for us! During hunting season, I have to get there early for bones. He has to spend extra to dispose of them as biohazardous waste and can not sell game, so he gladly gives away meaty bones to dog owners. He's not a real butcher, more he buys meat wholesale and trims and repackages it. The first time I asked if he had bones he told me to come back in a few weeks, during hunting season. I did and he had a young man put a box into the trunk of my car that would have gotten me arrested for suspicion of being a serial killer! The entire leg from shoulder to hoof! Lots of meat and bits attached. I was so jealous. I thought Rich was going to gag and my neighbor just stood there gaping at me as we dragged the box from the car. Really glad we moved to the country! My dogs were so happy! We are rawfeeders now, finished our first week! I should say raw frozen -the girls prefer frozen, the boys just don't care. I have spent the day online looking for local sources. I have tracked down some local farms but it's mostly grassfed animals for humans. One offered animal grade (fell on the floor, etc) I am going to call and see if I can get some ears and organs like you guys talk about. Never thought it would be so hard! I grew up eating game, now my dogs eat better than me! LOL Quote
Ice and Cripton Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 We feed a variety of RMBs including: - chicken wings, frames and necks - turkey wings and necks - lamb forequarters, necks, shanks, flaps - beef off cuts There is so much out there that you can look at feeding. You can also add some natural yoghurt or sardines into her diet, or mix some in with her kibble. Yeh i deff agree with putting some natural bio yogurt and fish into her meals weekly, and some olive oil for her coat. For a small puppy like her i would stay off the red meats, they can be very rich for small puppies >> im not sure how old she actually is but i started feeding red meats at 6 months and organs at 9months. i would feed them: chicken wings chicken necks chciken thighs turkey legs turkey necks a little puppy benefits grossly from what turkey and chicken have to offer, so i would stick to them, not only will it be a nice suprise and treat for her but it's doing her the world of good added fish to her diet now is great, i added tinned fish until they were 6 months and then gave it raw, but im not sure if she will be okay on raw fish << im new to feeding fish raw:) but things like: mackeral tuna salmon sardines when they are 4 - 5 months you can add one raw egg a week, this really gives them a shiny, soft coat. I know a lot of breeders who wean their puppies onto to raw so im sure you can feed more than chicken and turkey, it's just my two had the runs if they had anything too rich so to be on the safe side i did some research and waited a few months, now at 10months they can pretty much have all, i stay away from liver, they're fine with heart but not liver yet! Lyn Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 We feed raw from weaning onwards. Our pups were initially weaned on scrambled egg done with goats milk (never cows milk). We gradually introduced minced turkey and mixed mince (chicken, lamb and organ meat) an pureed fruit and veg with rice at about 4-5 weeks. Our own pup was introduced to, and could tackle, chicken wings at 6 weeks. We initially 'cracked' the bone in them (broke it up with the back of the meat cleaver) but she could break them herself at 8 weeks. She has smaller portions of everything the adults have now, including some red meat (mostly lamb, very occasionally beef) and also tripe, cut into more puppy-managable pieces. She can now tackle the softer, smaller bones in chicken, turkey and lamb (her mum still finishes off the harder bits) and has full chicken wings, sections of turkey wings and necks and will devour a full chicken carcass with no problems. Our adults get: Lamb, beef and chicken mince Meaty lamb ribs Chicken wings Turkey wings Turkey necks large chunks of green tripe Chicken carcasses Salmon heads Tuna and sardines Eggs Rabbits (minus the skin and digestive tract) Game birds (pheasent and grouse, when we get them) Assorted fruit and veg Rice Dried seaweed (once a week) We do suppliment as needed (moults and race season): omega oil, vitamin C and Zinc gluconate We dont feed brassicas (cabbage, broccalli, spinach etc) due to the iron content or pork products through personal choice. Marc Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 We have been giving them more and more meat lately and it seems to do them good (not as much bad shite lol) ... They generally have chicken wings & legs but they have had pork steaks that we never ended up cooking from a bbq and seem to like them too. Quote
