I recently purchased the Sony W320 from Amazon and it was under £100. As you already have a Sony you will be familiar with how to use them and with the quality of the cameras. I believe the Lumix cameras are very good as well so it would be advisable to check the shutter reponse times on-line if you can.

2 of my cameras have been kodaks, they have something called a sport mode which allows for fast image taking.

the down side is that the camera will decide what it is taking a picture of instead of whats in the centre of the frame.

i managed to take a picture at 40mph out of the side of the car in the dark and it came out crystal clear.

my current camera is a z915 which was £150 when new, but now on ebay go for about £60 second hand.

what ever you get go for one with a sport function.

As you don't sound too ken on Sony cameras I would suggest the panasonic LUMIX cameras. It depends greatly on what your looking for in your new camera (ie highest megapixels, available features, optical zoom etc)

Set yourself a budget then have a look on some of the site that specialise in camera reviews to help narrow down your search.

My son went through two cameras (a Sony and a Samsung) in the time that I had my little Kodak. They seemed to wear out pretty quickly. My Kodak took great shots and I had it for four years before it died. It had great color and you could make a lot of edits right on the camera which was nice. . It did take some movies as well. Was a tough little camera. It was a gift from the kids, I don't think they paid much more than $200 for it, so with all of that, it was a good little camera. Am looking into getting another as my two cameras are pretty big for pockets while walking etc. (Yes, I believe in a camera for every job!)

Things that I'd take into consideration include the power and quality of the zoom. As I sense (!) you'll be using it for the dogs, you'll want a good zoom (my L110 has a 15x zoom. It's a 12.1 megapixel. Which is nice as you can get some fairly large prints without them being 'grainy'. (I have a tendency to print out large shots for the wall.)

Do know that digital zoom and optical zoom are two different things. This explains it pretty well:

My boss at work has a Lumix and says it is very good.

To be honest you wont have to worry about mega pixel, as these days even the budget cameras come with a very high resolution. And on the good cameras the default setting for pictures is usually around half of what it can do!

panasonic - Shutter SpeedStill: approx. 8 - 1/1600 sec / Starry Sky Mode : 15, 30, 60sec.

my sony - Shutter Speed Auto Mode (sec) 1/8 - 1/2.000

wow no wonder you cant get the pics you want that is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

the one you have chosen looks ok to me for fast pics based on these figures

Motion Picture setting on the camera meaning it will take fast pics

the shutter speed is fast 1/1600 sec although you may have to set it in manual

also the Sonic Speed AF will increase the speed

and full HD video also

the reviews are quite good.

if i was after a new camera i would consider this one
