Sarah Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Thought I would put this up, general list of items to have in a first aid kit. I have typed it up from the Your Dog Magazine. I hope you never have to use the kit though! Waterproof pouch If it's raining you won't get your "kit wet" Cohesive bandage Used as a top layer of bandage and sticks to itself no need for safety pins or tying Latex Gloves Use before leaning any wound to prevent from infection Bandage padding Easier to use than cotton wool and less likely to contaminate a wound. It will absorb excess blood is the dressing becomes saturated and is more comfortable. Scissors Preferably round ended to reduce the risk of stabbing yourself or your dog Wound cleansing wipes Alcohol free and are useful for cleaning small grazes Tweezers Used to pull out thorns or to remove ticks - although a proper tick remover is an easier option Sterile saline pods Saline (salt water) is a safe solution for cleaning all wounds, including the eyes. White open weave bandage This layer prevents the bandage from sticking to an open wound Conforming bandage This mesh - like bandage holds the wound dressing and padding layer in place and squashes them. the pressure can stem the bleeding and gives support to the injured body part. ISDW Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I have a couple from zooplus, one to keep at home (well, in the kennels) and the other is like a bumbag, so that I can take it out on walks. It also has pouches at the front for phone, keys etc. They also have space blankets in them, in case of shock. Quote
